On the eve of the big event, the Beastie Boys and Sheryl Crow will co-headline the Hey, America Feels Kinda Cool Again event at Washington's 9:30 club.

Hey, America Feels Kinda Cool Again? WTF ?? Based on what, exactly ? Double digit unemployment ? Trillion $$ deficits ? Pardon me while I don't join in on the party.

It's for cool people so you will not be missed. I kid...
Come on... we're gonna have a black guy who smokes in the White House - that's pretty edgy cool isn't it?

I got nothing against Obama personally. In fact, he's surprised me, some , with being reasonable more than a few times, but I know that'll change soon enough. What really gets me is the entertainment world's view that it's only cool to be an American when a Democrat is in the White House. I remember when Clinton won, and you'd have thought the Berlin Wall coming down was a mere garden party compared to the carrying on by the Dems. And this is shaping up to be far, FAR worse. In such dire economic times, or so we're being led to believe, the price tag for O's party will be 40-50 MILLION. Not bad, for a town that's started tossing around trillion dollars like it was chicken feed.

I truly fear for my country.

DREAMTROVE

Okay, I was going to avoid this one, but I have to agree with Rap. on that last. But let me add this: Enjoy the fall of the empire. Everything that is crumbling is a dictatorial executive, an incompetent congress that infringes on your freedom and spends your money recklessly. There's nothing there worth saving, it's going to be a spectacular collapse, and so have fun, enjoy the ride. BTW, I kinda like Obama too, he has a certain charm and some clever tricks to try to get around the Clintonistas that surround him, and I kinda feel sorry for him that he's going to be holding the ball when this buzzer rings. OTOH, he bought the ticket, so I guess, like Mikhail Gorbachev, he's got to take it, win or lose.

Does that include the millions of dollars DC will be making on this shindig? It's not just vaporizing. It also points to how excited some people are by this event - it's a good thing in these dire economic times.

Back when Bush had his 2nd Inauguration, many columnist wrote about the inappropriate nature of spending millions of $$'s for a party when we were ( and still are ) a nation at war, when there's so many homeless, hungry, tsunami victims, etc.... The cost then? $40 Million, and change. With Obama's Inauguration, and the economy in much worse condition, the total for this party, historic as it is, will be 4 x's what was spent for Bush's Inauguration.

I find it destructive and sad for folks to point out how much good that 40 million would do if not spent on the Bush Inauguration , yet are silent when it comes to spending 150 million for Barack's parties.
Will Barack's skin color be of any consolation to those who are hungry ? Or homeless ? Because that's essentailly the only difference I see here, as so many are willing to break the bank to celebrate the 1st black President , while the same ills which faced us back in '04 are still here today, in '09.

Yes , when the Roman Empire was failing , they were also big into the irrational feel-good vibe...Many were
'excited' by their times , and considered it 'a good thing'...

Aside from all the rampant fornicating , they also had what the Emperors called 'bread and circuses'...

Yep , this is going to go real well...

But earlier, you yourself posted this figure:

By your own rationale, shouldn't those who DIDN'T think it was outlandish then shut the f**k up about it now?

Also, what part of this is being paid for by the U.S. government with taxpayer money? How much of it is being spent by private individuals? How much is being paid for with donations from supporters, or with leftover campaign funds?

Just wonderin'.

I'm not crazy about the amount of dollars being spent (when numbers get that big, we start referring to them as "cubic dollars", because it's easier to estimate how many cubic feet of hundred-dollar bills than to try to figure out how many zeroes there are in that number...). That said, I wonder if we're comparing apples to apples. How many people showed up for Bush's inauguration(s)? They're estimating somewhere from 3 to 4 MILLION for this one, and that number seems to keep going up every day. I'd wager that's a fair bit larger than any numbers we've ever seen before, for ANY inauguration. As such, and with the increased (and ever-increasing) security concerns and issues, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the price tag is higher than any previous inauguration.

Also, that 40-to-50 million bucks probably doesn't buy what it did four or eight years ago.

Boy, you nailed it OTB - nothing but bread, circuses and fornicating coming up for DC, 'cuz we're EXACTLY like the Roman Empire. As for me, when Jan 20 comes around and Maximus Obamicus is sworn in, I know that I will be hip deep in depravity and the eating of yeast products.

Definitely watch for one of PirateNews' posts, you may just see me on the White House lawn trying to out jump Hitler and Stalin and Whozit for a bagel on top of a unicorn's horn. And if I don't get it - if that sh*t stink Hitler beats me - things are really going to suck for the U S of A.

My point was that there were folks who were so quick to vilify Bush for his party ( 40 million ) who are mute over Obama's ( 150+ million ) I don't know the break down of Fed $$ vs Private, but it doen't really matter, now does it ? I mean, if folks were gonna bitch about the homeless and the hungry with Bush's 40 million $$ party, they should be bitching 4x's as much over Obama's 150 million party. Right ?

20 million is for security ;)

Seriously, I think Obama's audacity is a potential weakness, it's certainly not becoming, but maybe it's a hidden strength. That's a hope snark. The audacity of snarp

Also, you don't think federal versus private funds matters at all? That sounds an awful lot like socialism to me... Sounds like you're telling private citizens what they should and shouldn't spend their own money on.

Gawd you people are so dry, I mean, emotionally dehydrated. Sorry there ain't something better like a Bud Light convention. There are in fact "Black People" - with money - that want to spend that money to see their man become Prez. Are you really that out of touch?

It HAS been 'all about the money' , hasn't it ?

When 2/3 to 3/4 of a BILLION is spent to buy a new 'pResident' , the Bankster/Moneychanger/Globalist-Fascists
like Soros want the 'right' one , don't they ?
