It *could* happen... but it won't. Bush and Cheney are going to skate away clean, never arrested, never charged, never questioned under oath. There will be a sham investigation, and a lineup of low-level administrative lackeys will fall on their swords and serve minimal jail time, and it will all happen again the very next time these guys are in power...

WHY DON'T THEY ALL ARREST BUSH, CHENEY, OBAMA AND PELOSI, ET AL?! THAT WOULD BE A HELL OF A SHOW!

LIKE BORIS YELSIN ARRESTED GORBACHEV FOR PERSONALLY STEALING $3.5-BILLION.

Like traffic cops already arrested Bush & Cheney 3 times for drunk driving.

Since Bush committed no crimes, there's no possible chance he can get arrested. Kicking the living hell out of the Democrats in 2 elections isn't a crime.

Then name for us, the crimes they've committed. Keep in mind, the courts have ruled for Bush and Cheney on such issues of warrentless wiretaps and official VP documents.

FISA court rules that wireless surveillance was legal.

Its just crazy to think that just because a person has been neither charged nor convicted or any crime that such a person might be Not Guity.

In a few hours the Bush Administration will formally end. Many of you called him a facist and a Nazi. Somehow this peaceful transfer of power will once more prove you wrong. He did not subvert the Constitution, as you claimed using the very free speech you claim he took away on an electronic medium you claim he was monitoring and from a location of your choosing and not a Federal Detention Center.

You allowed yourself to be swept up in your emotion and the hateful rhetoric of the left and allowed your irrational fear and loathing convert simple policy differences into perceived evils of the highest order.

You should be ashamed. I suspect the intellegent among you will be ashamed when time and distance make reason the glass through which you view history.

As for today, lets all celebrate the great miracle of the American system. The peaceful transfer of power, even more the our vote, is the heart of our American system.

God bless Presidents Obama and Bush and God bless America.

What the Arrest Bush crowd don't comprehend is that when they attack Bush, they attack the country. They're attacking an innocent man for the sole reason that he's from a different political persuasion than they are, and that's what fuels their irrational hatred.

There were no crimes, none what so ever. Certainly none they can present. It's like the zealots who insist Obama isn't a natural born citizen, and therefore , his Presidency is null and void. They cling to the notion that his birht certificate is fake, or not technically a legally binding document, any number of excuses. There's a hearing on this matter in Federal Court, on Jan 23. Folks actually think that if ' Justice ' is to be served, all this Iauguration hooplah will be for not,and that Barack will be stripped ( legally ) of his Presidency.

I'll win the lottery before that ever happens. But it's the same sort of delusion that the 'arrest Bush' clowns are under.

Well said. And good luck with the lottery.

Its really the same sort of irrational sentiment coming from opposite ends of the political spectrum. I've always viewed that spectrum as curved because the extreme ends have more in common with each other then they do with the right, left, or middle.

Its like Obama's approval rating, which is around 78%. How can you have an approval rating if you have not done anything yet? They are judging the hype, which Obama has always excelled at. When we start judging his governing, then we'll see where this is going. Obama's ability to govern has never been tested. At some point he's going to have to stop holding rally's and actually do some work. Then we'll know what we've got.

The best analysis of this subject I've heard yet stated this:

O ran on a platform plank that he'd end the war and abandon Gitmo. Furthermore, he promised the citizenry that he'd "repair" america's image abroad. At noon today he will be sworn in.

By 1:00pm he will have recieved his 1st presidential defense briefing. As the week wears on, and as the titantic task of saving american lives becomes clearer to him, he will start not honoring campaign promises. After 2 months an angry left will be yelling at the savior of change to do what he promised and change everything. Sadly for them, it cannot be done. Not without placing all americans (and themselves) at grave risk.

As time rolls on, it will become clear that many of Bush's defense policies were nessessary. O will prove it by not making substantive alterations. Eventually years will become decades and these times will fade into the memories of elderly folk (us). The historians of newer generations will regard Bush in a manner similar to how we today regard Truman. A man who was politically reviled in his day, but now who we see as a solid cornerstone of american security.

Today is an historic day. I'm happy so many people are celebrating. But the message of change is a wil-o-wisp.

The election was not about those issues. He won because of the economic meltdown (as opposed to Nuclear on the West Wing) and McCain's week long fumbling of the issue. Going into that week McCain had the lead and the momentum.

But the rest of your analysis is ok. I think that the left will start crying no matter what. Its the economy that will make or break him. People don't want this bailout plan. So he's breaking with the people to pursue the plan at the same time he's breaking with his party who want to raise taxes. Carter had the same problem and it crippled his Presidency for years.

Read my post...I said PLATFORM PLANK. i.e. one of several issues. (many planks form a platform) I never said that the election wasn't about the economy. It was 100% about it. And that's the tragedy. Without the crisis started by congressional democrats, the people would never have reacted in a blind panic.

It's like Alfred said in The Dark Knight:

"You beat them sir, and in their blind desperation they've turned to a man they didn't completely understand."

I tell you again, 2008 was 1976 come again. These next 4 years will be very hard for most americans. I don't believe the ecomony will be the rub, that was just the fuse. Just like in 1976 when the ghost of Nixon was the fuse. The people in 76 turned to a man they didn't understand in reaction to anger about Nixon and got the unintended consequence of a tragic recession my father remembers well. 2008 is similar, the people have likewise placed their faith in a man they don't understand in reaction to a bad economy, and the result? God forbid it, but I think there will be a horrible tragedy as a result of dismantled security.

I do not want this prediction to come true, but I prepare regardless.

Not while President. You're confused with Ted Kennedy's son, Patrick. He's the Kennedy who crashed his car into the steps of the Capitol building, at 2:30 am , thinking he was "late for an important vote".

That's not quite how it went down. Patrick had left a DC bar quite drunk and proceeded to drive his car right into a concrete baracade on Capitol Hill at 2:30am. The "I'm late for a vote" was what he was told to tell capitol cops by his father.

You see, when a senator or congressman is on his/her way to a vote, there are federal laws that protect them from some law enforcements rendered on normal citizens so long as they are inside the bounds of DC. (being DUI is NOT one of them) Therefore a congressman can be pulled over for speeding, state that he was going to a vote, and the cop must let him go...perhaps even escort him/her.

When Patty crashed his car he called Dad right away realizing that he was DUI and now in deep s**t. Dad tells him to state he's "going to a vote" to invoke congressional privalige. The cop that arrived was a younger man, in his early 20's and not familiar with good ole' DC corruption. This is why it became an issue because he started to arrest Kennedy anyway, knowing full well that congress was not in session. The young officer's backup was also younger, all working the graveyard shift, and assisted in cuffing Kennedy. After 45 minutes, daddy's calls to law enforcement have finally dragged some older cops out of their beds and they arrive at the scene to release Patrick and send him home. Additionally the young arresting officer was repremanded.

No charges were filed. THIS is the kind of stuff that is sometimes so wrong with DC.

Drunk driving in Texas is not a crime in Washington, DC.

Are you saying that when a person has been charged and convicted of a crime and concluded their sentence that they should be arrested for it decades later in another jurisdiction? That seems a bit silly.

In his defense...he was late and it was an important vote.

Actually its a good defense. A Congressman could kill someone on national TV in front of a hundred cops and not get arrested IF he's on his way to a vote. There's a prohibition against arresting folks on the way to vote. Apparently...and I can't imagine why, at some point folks were worried that one party might use police to delay the arrival of the other parties Congressmen in order to prevent their votes on pending legislation. Imagine that...

Actually, Scotland is making noise about seceding. I have some ancestors from Scotland as well, and some from county Donegal, and N. Ireland. There was a lot of Scottish immigration to N. Ireland. About 100,000 Scots migrated during the 17th century. Oliver Cromwell's imperialism during this period really did help radically destabilize anything he touched really.

I thought you were talking about the people oppressing Northern Ireland for 400 years? Since Northern Ireland didn't exist as a political entity until a little under a hundred years ago, and the United Kingdom didn't form until about three hundred years ago, maybe you're confused. Try Wikipedia, I hear it's the current replacement for the non-existent American educational system.

Try Wikipedia, I hear it's the current replacement for the non-existent American educational system.

My goodness. You attempt to rebuke me and then only prove my point. Scotland joined the UK on May 1 1707. Right around the same time english and scottish settlers started plopping down in northern ireland, displacing the natives and driving wedges of religon between neighborhoods.

My point to raptor was to ask you, as a "Citizen" of the UK, to comment on northern ireland, since you were so focused on describing him as KKK. I've seen plenty of film from the 80's documenting english and scottish soldiers fighting side-by-side against Irish freedom fighters.

Not really, but if you feel you need to say that.

Yeah, I got what you were trying to do. How are those Taliban and Al Qaeda Freedom fighters doing by the way?

I cannot believe that an Indiana farmboy actually knows more about Scottish history than a native.

The Plantation of Ulster was the english means towards forced colonization of Northern Ireland. A process that lowland scots used to also colonize the region during the 17th and 18th centuries eventually forming the ethnic group of Ulster Scots. A fraction of them were driven out to the americas by the natives and another smaller fraction actually joined irish natives later in fighting the English, but the majority of Ulster Scots support United Kingdom rule to this day.

I'd link you to any number of wiki articles to educate you on the history of your 2 islands, but you've already showed a lack of respect for either wikipedia or the american educational system. And besides, it's time for me to log off and have dinner.

You're confused with Ted Kennedy's son, Patrick. He's the Kennedy who crashed his car into the steps of the Capitol building, at 2:30 am , thinking he was "late for an important vote".

Well, in all honesty, he WAS late for the vote. Or he was REALLY early for the next day's vote. :)

Dang, somebody beat me to it.

Don't believe it, because you don't. You chose to insert yourself in to a personal quarrel you know nothing about. Don't take getting involved in something you clearly don't understand, and my not bothering to get deeply involved on side subjects you throw up because of that, as indicative of my own knowledge. If you really wish to know why I said what I said to AU, it's because he spends his entire time making racist and nationalist slurs, and when he's not doing that, he's just being a plain damn troll. Talking to him in any regard other than that is pointless, so I, along with 90% of other posters here, never bother. You inserted yourself in the middle of that, and frankly it's none of your damn business.

If you really want to discuss this whole thing, then fair enough, maybe you and I can start over, I'd like that. I can be fairly sure that I know at least as much about your country, it's people and it's history, as you do mine. You portray me as "Brits like these" but frankly you know nothing about me save for a few posts made to tweek the nose of some ignorant xenophobic troll. I don't hate America, or Americans, though you'll find many here who disagree with that assertion due to the fact that there's a few posters here who can't separate criticism from hatred. I've been to America a number of times. More if I could afford to do so. My girlfriend is from Missouri, and hey she's Irish American, how does that stack up? Maybe I'm just a Sadomasochist?

I'd ask you take my comments in the context of who they were aimed at, and why, and what you jumped in to the middle of. Or we can carry on shouting at each other and disparaging each others education, it's up to you.

at some point folks were worried that one party might use police to delay the arrival of the other parties Congressmen in order to prevent their votes on pending legislation. Imagine that...

Oh, you mean like Lincoln did in order to prevent Maryland from secession ?

Bush, even Cheney, isn't half the monster he was, and yet we put his ugly mug on the currency and built statues in honor of a guy who really did more or less wipe his ass with the Constitution when it became inconvenient...

And yes, Bush could be subject to arrest, but not for what people think - what would legally trip him up is a little something called usurpation.

See, the president does not have the authority to declare war, and congress does not have the authority to delegate that responsibility, and as such, that *was* a criminal act and thus can indeed be prosecuted.

It's just that everyone's happy enough to finally see the back of him that no one really cares - tho they should, cause forgive and forget means dealing with these sumbitches again 12-15 years later, we really oughta put the boot in an finish the job, but that's just my opinion.

I don't think a red neck from the country that bought the World Oprah and Jerry Springer has any right to complain.

I'll tell you what, when Amy Whitehouse is half as bad as Britney Spears, get back to me .

So, old English bloke got a stick up his bum over a rich colonial slave ancestor making more $$ than the Queen? Oprah is quiet well thought of by most folks here in the US, and even our new President.

Britney is the belle a the ball compared to Ms Winehouse. Nice try.

Erm, no. Not that she does, nor that I care. Unlike delusional rednecks I don't base my lifes worth around how much money I've made and how many blacks I've lynched, but good luck with that, AU. Besides, it's southerners like you that flocked to the banner of the KKK, it's you guys that don't like to see your ex-property get ahead.

And really, Britney Spears isn't, but given the level of human decency, intelligence and class you show on a daily basis, it's really no wonder you aspire to be like her. I suppose Britney is up from some low life white trash trailer park, so good luck with that, but please stop wearing the dress, it's freightening the kids.
