In spite of me be very angry with you at the moment, this is an Obama change, if you want to post it on the change thread, go ahead, otherwise I'll do it, but to be fair, you'll probably treat it more kindly than I will. I tend to think discrimination suits should be filed at the time, this limits the number of bogus suits, which actually is good for the cause.

One question, was disability included in this?

Which totally screw those who were wronged, as the wronging party rarely issues a memo to let them know. How can you sue for something you are unaware of?

I'm dubious. I think that you suspect discrimination right away. I don't have any issues with the issue. I have issues with time delay crimes. The number of things that could go wrong is endless, such as this one: Denny's used to discriminate against blacks. Now they don't. In fact, the local Denny's is pretty much black now. Company policy has changed. The guy responsible for the discrimination policy has been sacked. It would be wrong for the current institution of Denny's to pay for the past intitution of Denny's crimes.

Legal matters should be settled immediately. Why does the current govt. of Germany have to pay holocaust reparations? Shouldn't switzerland pay them? They ended up with the money, and were involved in the policy. The govt. of Germany is an institution we set up after defeating the Nazis, it's not the Nazis themselves. Law needs to be logical and connected, or it lends itself to abuse. The more abuse, the shaky the standing of the law.

There are a whole host of delayed crime problems, such as missions of vengeance, etc.

But you can't sue on a suspicion, you sue on a wrongful act. And unless you have evidence, you've got nothing.

If, for example, you are working in a place that doesn't have uniform wages for the same titles (all non-government and non-union jobs) AND people are warned against disclosing their pay scale to others - how can you find out that you are making less for doing the same job ?

Here's an idea - why don't you challenge Wulf to come up with the facts of who is doing what and who is getting paid how much in his line of work ? He has a 'suspicion', surely according to you both it should be no big deal for him to get some actual numbers.

Just the effort to get pay-scales should be instructive - to you both.

I see your point, but I think you're taking it to a somewhat rediculous extreme.

If someone steals from you, and you don't find out about it untill a while later, I think it's reasonable to expect at least a chance of recompensation. That is the point of this bill. It does not ensure said compensation, but at least it leaves a possibility, which was not there before - as Ms. Ledbetter can attest.

Well, for example, I had a friend who had a bad break-up with her bf, who I thought was a decent guy, but she was a little unstabled, and she freaked him out, and so he ditched. She later wanted to get revenge, and thought that charging him with rape would be a good way to do it. She knew he hadn't raped her, that wasn't the point, the point was revenge, but it had been weeks, and the cops weren't interested. They thought that if she had been really raped, esp. since she lived only two blocks from the police station, she mighta mentioned it earlier. And no, none of these people was me. But I knew them both separately, and they both related the story. This is one that gets attacked from the other end, but this is why there's a limit. Sure, she'd had sex with him lots of times, maybe they could find evidence of that. But given that, a revenge situation of a fired employee? Still better plan than murdering your family over it, but very plausible. Lots of plausible problems.

But I'll gnaw it over, you could be right. Fortunately, my brother's a law professor, I can forward it to him, and he'll give me a very good bead on the good and bad of it.

IRS taxes all employment lawsuit settlements and verdicts as "back pay". It takes many years of litigation to win, resulting in high legal fees (over 50% with appeals and interest). "Victory" results in 95% of verdicts and settlements paid to lawyers and IRS.

"News" articles fail to mention those little facts.

If you don't like your boss, then quit - it's alot more profitable.

Either own your own business, or be treated as a slave.
