citizen - I'm assuming you're slow for your kind, because there's no hope for jolly ol' England if you represent the 'norm' over there.

The point you're too stupid to figure out, or too stubborn to admit, is that Obama, 3 days into his administration, is doing EXACTLY what Bush was doing, and that's using military force to fight the war on terror.

Now, understand, Obama DID say he'd use force , in Pakistan, back when he was campaigning, so he seems to be living up to a campaign promise. But he ALSO said that he was going to use more diplomacy. So he's sorta talking out of both sides of his mouth ( nothing new for any politician, granted ) And not only was he against the war in Iraq, he was against the surge, which , by all measure, has worked in scaling down the terrrorist activity.
Iraq just had another election, or was that not covered in the UK news ? It was barely covered over here, which is why I ask.

So, in general, Obama ran a campaign of far less military " agression " , as some call it. The world was going to stop hating us, for all of our "war mongering". But 3 days into his historic rise to office, and guess what ? We've got dead terrorist, mobs of protestors rallying aginst the USA, only W's not in charge anymore.

"... the surge, which , by all measure, has worked in scaling down the terrrorist activity."

Oh, you mean paying Sunnis to not attack Americans ? That surge ?

"The real purpose of the “surge” was to hide another deception. The Bush regime is paying Sunni insurgents $800,000 a day not to attack U.S. forces. That’s right, 80,000 members of an “Awakening group,” the “Sons of Iraq,” a newly formed “U.S.-allied security force” consisting of Sunni insurgents, are being paid $10 a day each not to attack U.S. troops. Allegedly, the Sons of Iraq are now at work fighting al-Qaida.

This is a much cheaper way to fight a war. We can only wonder why Bush didn’t figure it out sooner.

The “surge” was also timed to take account of the near completion of neighborhood cleansing. Most of the violence in Iraq during the past five years has resulted from Sunnis and Shiites driving each other out of mixed neighborhoods. Had the two groups been capable of uniting against the U.S. troops, the United States would have been driven out of Iraq long ago. Instead, the Iraqis slaughtered each other and fought the Americans in their spare time.

In other words, the “surge” has had nothing to do with any decline in violence."

And in which reality does one attack in Pakistan equate to the constant militarism and aggression of Bush? Oh that's right, it doesn't, unless you're a delusional moron partisan.

Of course the only person who could believe that it's a failure if 8 years of Bush's regime in three days? Oh right, a stupid white trash twit. Another question satisfactorily answered.

Wow, I know you're slow, citizen, but jeeeeesus..... if you go any slower, you'll start typing in reverse !

Twice now, I've stated that I approve of Obama's actions into Pakistan, and yet you still live under the delusion that I'm " only for it " when a Republican is in the W.H. ?

HINT: Read my words slowly, for it seems you keep missing what I'm typing.

Mabye it's the irony that keeps throwing you off. The irony of how Obama ran as a peace-nik, and is only 3 days into office before he's launching attacks into a foreign land.

Do they still HAVE irony over there in England ?

His entire campaign was one of being a peace-nik, 'tard. He was against the war in Iraq, against the surge, wants to close Gitmo, what about that do you NOT get ? As I recall, his comment about going into Pakistan was brought up during the Dem debates. Not that it's all that relevant.

Obviously late in the conversation but... not relevant? How is that not relevant?

Pardon me if I'm wrong here, rapo, but your whole argument sounds like: "Obama said he was going to bomb Pakistan if necessary! But that's not relevant because he wanted to change everything else! So shame on him for doing what he said he would! Because we need to confront islamofascists but not if Barry does it! "

Besides, y'all make his head explode and we're gonna need a new village idiot.

Re: Magical Negro, etc.

Yanno, I never got how that specific stereotype was particularly offensive - yes, it's a racial stereotype, but given that the character in question is usually portrayed as a wise elder, if not downright oracle, AND as one of the good guys if not a hero themselves, why folk find it so offensive is beyond my comprehension.

One of the protest group leaders I work with, Gus, is a former E-6 who is quite fond of the phrase "How the hell should I know, do I look like a magical negro to you?"
The fact that he looks quite a bit like Dutch from Black Lagoon, and most of his cohorts are also very large, and very dark, this comes across quite hilariously when he's saying it to the only honkey there who also happens to be at least six inches shorter than ANYONE in the room.
(And yet talks three times the smack!)
"Don't screw with me Gus, I'll kick your ass."
*Gus looks down, blinks*
"Jeff, get shorty a stepladder, he's gonna need it."

Honestly I think people as a whole got more important shit to worry about than what shade someone elses skin is.

I'm not in the least interested in convincing you of anything.

I'm interested in cabinet nominees who don't pay their taxes because I worked for the IRS for 36 years and know what'd happen to a Federal employee who didn't pay. That's pretty much my whole position; that folk who can't be trusted to file their returns correctly until they get caught shouldn't be in positions of trust in the government. If any of the Republicans nominated to cabinet positions haven't paid their taxes, I'll criticize them as well. If I'm less unhappy than you about other stuff, it's because my interests don't go in that direction.

Quote:

So you're deciding his stance on what he didn't say?

When the issue is whether Cabinet nominees who didn't pay their taxes should be confirmed, I'd expect him to state he was against it if he was. Instead...excuses.

{u]HEY CHRIS!!!. You think it's OK to confirm cabinet members who don't remember to pay their taxes until they're audited or being vetted?

Jews will accept and use any negative stereotype, or epithet, against themselves, and laugh about it. But god forbid you suggest that a jewish person has ever done anything immoral, they'll go berzerk. (My sister ran into this one with one of her books which has jewish slave owners. They eventually pubilished it, but not until she delivered heaps of evidence to support the idea that there were such people.)

Like this:
Quote:

Why is it no one is trying to defend Geithner, Daschle, and Killefer, but are instead trying real hard to change the subject?

Implying that we are covering for them, Which we are not. This is an implication you have continued to make, even after direct statements to the opposite.

Fact is, we're not defending them, because they don't deserve it. As I said before, our point here is not to defend them, just because they are Democrats, but to point out the hipocricy of those on the opposite side who have and do defend anything a Republican does, no matter what.

Which you have exemplified.

Haven't heard from Chris. He, along with Citizen, Rue, and SignyM seem fixated on oral sex with Rush Limbaugh, past administrations, and Pakistan; which seems peculiar in a thread about Cabinet nominations - and haven't expressed any opinion on Dachele, Geithner, and Co.

So you stand by your words, then? You admit that you said that conservative authoritarian lapdogs (those are the exact words Chris used, and asked what you'd call them) were REAL AMERICANS?

So where have I lied? Was it a lie to quote your own words back to you? Are you so fucking addle-pated that you can't even remember your own words less than twenty-four hours after you posted them? Are you really that goddamned stupid?

It seems you are.

Okay, a couple things: First, re-read that second sentence in the first part of your reply. "Like calling anyone who supports marriage as 1 man and 1 woman to being HOMOPHOBES and Hates." It doesn't make any sense, on any level. Someone is being called to HOMOPHOBES and Hates? How does on call another to Hates? How is one called to HOMOPHOBES? Is that a place? Is it like being called to the principal's office?

Second, I think you're confused in your second part. Last time I checked, it wasn't "The Left" who redefined waterboarding from torture to "harmless college prank" so they could use it indiscriminately against people who had no charges filed against them.

For starters, I've never said anything "racist" . You claiming such does not make it so. Second, exactly how many times does one have to say they're not racist before it settles into your noggin? See, where I'm from, folks who constantly are apologizing for things they're not guilty of or pleading innocence for that which.....well, you get the picture.

It's sad you think it's funny that you can accuse others of being racist, when in fact, you're only making matters worse. Maybe when you grow up, you'll understand.

Type too fast, don't proof read, and this is what happens. Even you left off an (e) at the end of a word.

How does on call another to Hates?
It happens. I left out one letter (r) and thats corrected. That should make much more sense. :again:

Those who support 1 man + 1 woman marriage have been called homophobes and haters by the far Left wing. Better ?

Second, water boarding never was a " harmelss college prank ", but always a means of harsh interogation. And it was rarely used, so let's be clear on that point. But I'm getting really F-ing tired of saying this, and I REALLY want to believe it's just another in a long line of honest misunderstanding that I've seen made by those on the Left. Yes, there were some 'pranks' pulled, excessive to those from the outside, but truly harmless. We're talking hard ass killers, getting a dish of their own medicine, but keeping their eyes, heads, fingers, ears and such, attatched to their bodies. Of that, I can fully agree. Did some of our guys / contractors go overboard ? Clearly, they did. They got caught, and punished, and rightfully so.

They cut off the heads of innocent men, women and children, we water board in order to get valuable information. I'm sorry, but in the game of " equivocation" , I say we're far , FAR ahead on points.

Towelhead isn't racist, it's bigoted. It targets a group, not a race. Camel jockey is probably racist, as it targets I would assume arabs. It's also insensitive, since the camel jockey story is a real issue.

Possibly a prejudiced statement, but unless Islam has become a race, rather than a religion, it isn't racism.

See there? You've just participated in that very same "redefining" that you accuse only "The Left" of doing. Calling it "a means of harsh interrogation" soothes your soul, maybe, but it doesn't change the fact that water-boarding IS torture, as defined by (and prosecuted by) every civilized nation, including the United States. We've prosecuted others for doing it to our people, and convicted them of war crimes.

Also, you claim that we don't torture innocents, but you have no basis to make that claim. We're torturing people who haven't been charged with any crime, who haven't had any trial, who are merely suspects. What does the law say about suspects? Something quaint about them being presumed innocent? So, in point of law, we ARE torturing innocents, and have.

You'll claim that they have no legal standing under U.S. law, but they're on U.S. property, on U.S. soil, so they damned well SHOULD have some legal standing - for if they don't, then who the hell does?

Sorry, i don't see it as torture. No way, no how, not in the least.

Who does? Uniformed soldiers who are members of a standing army, that's who.

Uniformed Soldiers have no standard legal standing. Even on US soil they can end up in military court. It's actually the reason I didn't join. Lots of people I know did. I'm glad I didn't, a lot of people I knew who went in did not come out unscathed. Three died, two became deaf.

I see they're using those teaser ads again like they did in the '80s: if you go in, this is what you'll do. Not "oh, and we'll reassign you first thing to something else"

Uh huh, lemme ask you this then.

If some other country invaded us, would you bother finding a proper "uniform" before you shot back ?

Or bothering with the hassle and paperwork of joining a "standing army", if one was even left (pun intended) standing in the first place ?

Fact of the matter is, regardless of whether WE agree with them or see it that way, the folks in question earnestly believe they're defending their country, their home turf, against us.

And they got a fucking point, THEY live there, we do not, now if they came over here and started a ground war out of uniform, than you might have a leg to stand on, but the truth of the matter is that we are in THEIR country, and many of them consider this an act of intolerable aggression, of invasion, and from THEIR point of view are acting in self defense of person and country.

And it doesn't matter a whit whether or not YOU agree with that, because neither you, nor anyone else, is the final arbiter of what is "right" in a moral sense to anyone BUT you.

And finally, if you are going to apply THAT set of rules of warfare, we're the bad guys even then, since we launched an unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation - it's not a salad bar, you cannot pick and choose, so either you take the whole fucking set and comply, in which case we ARE the bad guys....

Or you throw it out the window and admit these guys are not bound by it either - but you cannot hold them to a moral standard that you refuse yourself to obey and be anything but a pathetic fucking hypocrite.

That's very on target. We could have supported a strong anti-Saddam faction, but that would have lead to a stable shiia regime, which is what we got. The secret agenda was a US puppet govt and instablity. That didn't happen.

There was local support for a war against Saddam that was blown with shock and awe, but wasn't completely dead until the levelling of Fallujah. By contrast, in our central asian conflicts, we're in a position where almost no one wanted us there to begin with. Now, we have that situation in Iraq.
