OOC, if you had your 'druthers how should the economy be run? Is it the Federal deficit that bothers you? Or is it the idea of corporate welfare? Or sending soldiers to foreign lands to support our (economic) interests? Where do you draw the line between legitimate government economic policy (if you believe there is such a thing) and really bad ideas, and what do you base it on?

Not sure where this is leading to. To prevent waterway and ground table pollution? For material recovery? To keeps those mountains of flyash from sliding down into the nearest river? To rehabilitate mining areas? To haul away those trucks up on blocks in the front yard? Might be a good idea, since rural areas are often the poorest and least able to manage these kinds of programs. Might be a bad idea. Needs more info.

I know how it feels to work your buns off with no funding. An accurate census is required by the constitution, and is the basis for allocation of funds and political representation. Maybe not the most urgent program but definitely not "wasteful".

All of these "wasteful" program, BTW, come out to a grand total of about 18 billion our of the 800 billion stimulus. But rather than look at the facts, some peeps have run away with the idea that its' ALL "pork". Having looked at the specifics, I'm inclined to say that most of the proposed expenditures (but not all) are good ideas.
