Rap

And yet, when you look at ALL the numbers for the two things you're willing to talk about - unemployment and the DOW - especially the years you left out on purpose - you'll see that Clinton started with far higher unemployment numbers, dropped them far lower for far lonnger, AND had a net gain of the DOW from roughly 2000 to 8000. And can I mention again left the dollar strong and the government budget in the black ?
(And btw, the unemployment figures I got from the BLS don't match yours. You must be citing some more 'Rap facts' TM.)

DREAMTROVE

Ah, the rare Undecuple Post!

Kwicko,

And he would be correct in doing so: Govt. is always (until the last few months, with this bail out nonsense) been writing next years budget. Generally it's accepted that the delay is 1-2 years. Hence Clinton 1 policies enact around 1994, and Clinton 2 from 98-02, and Bush 1 02-06, bush 2 will still be effecting us until 2010. So, no, dems in congress wouldn't have any effect until 08.

That said, govt. has relatively little effect on the market, and traditionally, fairly little effect on the economy, more recently, as we enter a more socialist/corporatist state, and govt. and private sector interlinkage becomes an issue.

Credit market has much more of an impact, and presidents can have an impact on that. Hence a republican would be perfectly justified in blaming the crash of 1929 on Woodrow Wilson, and the great depression as well. But Wilson was basically a creation of the banks.

Normally, I shrug at these kinds of analyses. Politicians are rats in cages biting each others heads off.

Not partisan at all. When W came into office, the dot com bubble had burst, not to mention Enron...remember all that ? Had zero to do w/ the Bush policies. Then there was 9/11. A major financial hit. After Bush's taxe cuts had time to take effect, things started rollin along again. Then, in '06, the Dems took control of Congress. Add to that the hike in the min wage, and Fannie/ Freddie's chickens coming home to roost, the economy started to slide.

It's all in how you look at the numbers. Look at it from the peak to the end of his 2nd term, and you see Bush presiding over a 45% drop in the Dow in less than two years.

Yeah, and you'd like to ignore the rebound the economy had, despite a ridiculous ( and turns out, unnecessary ) spike in the price of Oil, again, an external force that slowed growth. Imagine what the economy would have been like had gas not tripled in price.

Naww... forgeit it.I'm asking a simpleton to 'imagine' anything. My bad.

No, your figures are in line with the #'s I got from the US Bureau of Labor Statistitcs. Dunno what you're fussin' about. Take the time to follow the link.I posted it for a reason, ya know. As it turns out, rap facts are simply FACTS.

As for Clinton, so what ? Not all economic periods are the same. What he faced and what W faced weren't carbon copies, so I dont' really get your point.

You DO have a point, right ?

Ahh Rap, Rap, Rap

Ever the fact-denier.

Please note that unemployment went UP from a low (under Clinton) of 3.9 to 5.0 BEFORE September 11, 2001. That the supposed dot com crash dropped the DOW a mere 200 points. And that the DOW recovered from September 11 2001 by January 2002, a mere 4 months later.

But let's say that NOBODY'S policies really come into force until a year later. For Bush, that would mean from 2002 until now. That makes Bush responsible for the DOW starting at 8000 and ending at 8000. For unemployment starting at 5.7 and ending at 7.6. For the federal government going from a surplus to a deficit.

And are you really trying to claim (yet again) that Barney Frank is responsible for the entire collapse of the banking industry because of an offhand comment he made while the REPUBICANS controlled the senate AND the White House ? Really, now.

Late '04 and into '07. Look at the numbers.

They're below 5%. Look at what happens when the Dems take over, in '06.

Case made.

Next ?

Or, are you trying to say someone else was president ? Like, say, Barney Frank ?

Late 2001, effects of the Dot Com burst and 9/11. Major financial impact, and quite frankly, amazing the damge wasn't far worse.

You have no case.
