Ahhh...the NAACP, always good for a few laughs. Same with Sharpton.

In this day and age, they are scrambling for a reason to exist.

Clearly, they're preying on the idea that most folks probably believe Obama did write the Stimulus bill, and don't see the cartoon for what it really is saying, that CONGRESS is acting like a bunch of crazed chimps.

The National Association for the Advancement of COLORED People thinks they can bully the paper now, since they got Don Imus tossed off his show, briefly. They keep up this nonsense, I'll show solidarity and support free speech and subscribe to the paper myself !

... fully loaded, safety off...

It does make the NAACP look petty and stuck in the past to take offense at this, especially asking for people to be fired - an over reaction. Wait for a REAL issue to get bent out of shape about.

Having said that, you would have to be a real chimp not to think the imagery would raise a few hackles. And I think clearly that is what the Post was hoping for. Marc Andreeson of Netscape/cloud computing fame recently said what a lot of people have been thinking, that if you have a paper news distribution channel (neswpaper) it's time to close it down. Just shudder it - they can't compete with web media and they're a losing proposition. Sales numbers confirm:

http://newsosaur.blogspot.com/2008/11/news-sales-fell-almost-2b-in-one
.html

If you want to keep selling your paper you might just be printing more and more of those kinds of cartoons.

Folks who use 'too' for 'two' clearly show a lack of intellect and likely are habitual liars.

citizen, you've shown yourself to be a simpleton, and one who can't even use the English language, (which IS your own, is it not ? ) properly.

The mistake everyone is making is thinking that the cartoon in any way is meant to associate Obama with a Chimp. The reason that they used a Chimp is because of a real incident recently where the police shot a Chimp who severely mauled a woman http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=why-would-a-chimpanzee-at . Those unaware of this incident and unaware that Obama didn't write the stimulus legislation just jumped to conclusions because that is their response to everything. Its a lot easier to call the other side racists than it is to argue the merits of the stimulus package.

Whatever the cartoonist was trying to reference is irrelevant. The racial overtones are fairly obvious for anyone who's not too busy ignoring them, because the fact of the matter stands that Obama is directly associated with the stimulus package, black people have been associated with monkeys and apes - in a way that is different than comparing, say, George W. Bush with a monkey or an ape - and there have been death threats made against Obama since he started his bid for office.

That a lot of people aren't necessarily smart enough to know that Obama didn't write the stimulus bill doesn't matter, either - I know he didn't write the bill, but it doesn't change anything. Plus, since a lot of people don't understand the reference without explanation, that makes it a bad cartoon. It's really just a clusterfuck all the way around, and I'm not sure why there are so many people who can't see that.

Edited for more correctness.

It is surprising that the editors at the Post didn't catch this one before it got printed. I would like to think that they said to themselves political correctness, but more likely they genuinely didn't see anything wrong at the time knowing the lack of malicious intent.

They should have known that liberals don't have a sense of humor, unless it involves a hatefull attack on Bush. It's going to be a boring 4 years if every attempt at comedy is seen as a racist attack.

Have fun with your straw man. I'm not going to spend one more minute dealing with such foolishness.

Although, just for the sake of anyone who's interested, here are some ways to joke about Obama without being racist (they're not all great, and they're old, but I just swiped them real quick off the Internet):

What kind of koolaid do they drink at Obama rallies?

It CHANGES at every rally.

---

Senator Obama answered doubts about his inexperience by saying he has gained tremendous insight from his work as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, constitutional law professor, key club president, 4H treasurer, lunch room monitor, two years of jazz, and four years of tap.

---

Conan O'Brien: Over the weekend, Senator Barack Obama visited New Hampshire and thousands of people showed up to hear him speak. The New Hampshire crowds were excited, because apparently, this is the first time they've ever seen an African-American.

---

Jay Leno: Well, congratulations to Barack Obama, the big winner of the Democratic caucus. Stunning victory. He got 57% of the youth vote, 35% of the female vote, and 100% of Iowa's black vote, a guy named Larry.

So what, it pissed some people off, and they don't want to buy what I consider to be a crummy partisan rag of a paper anyways, well, that is their choice as consumers, innit ?

And they would *like* other people to agree with them on this, and are using their own free speech right to bitch and complain.

Hey Wulf, I told ya bout Gus and his mocking stereotypes, right ?

This'll amuse you...

That last protest was just your standard holding signs on the corner thing, and we even nabbed a couple locals who were "cornering"* and talked em into holding a sign with us.

Sometime into that, Gus runs out of smokes - and most of his guys have long since quit the habit, so he asks around and ain't nobody got any.
Then he glances down at me, but I don't smoke when working on something.
"Well then gimme some chaw, your shrimpy redneck!"
"Aw man, Gus, I only chew when I'm racin, you know that."
"You mean to tell me your white honkey cracker ass ain't got no chaw ?!
That's an offense against nature, son!"

So I went off and scored him a pack from the local liquor store, and slipped him a can of (wait for it..) red man snuff.

He takes the can, quickly associates those three words in his mind, and his face makes this weird contortion...
"Goddamn, do you ever do ANYTHING that won't offend SOMEONE?!"
"Well... no."

I think you two would have a blast busting each others chops if y'all ever met.

HA! You scored for him? Hope your ass got paid for it. You ain’t runnin no charity, are you? Been me? I would’ve got the money up front… lol

Yeah, I know. Let me tell YOU a little story…

About 3 years back, my friend and I were driving out thru the MD country to go pick up his car which had been in the shop. Now, my friend is Afro-cuban. Dark as the day is long, and looks like a Klingon to boot. Straight down from the dreds to the giant eyebrows…

Anyways, here we are, driving thru nowhere and I see a sign. It says “Millings for sale”. Apparently, Millings are some sort of farm equipment.

But they also happen to be my friends last name.

I start laughing. I mean cracking up. I’m laughing so hard Im almost crying, and my friend ask what the fuck is so funny. At which point, I start laughing even HARDER, because I KNOW that when I point it out, hes going to be so pissed off….so, thru gasps of trying to get my air back I point at the sign. At which point he goes all red (or as red as is possible for him) and says “You fucking asshole, I should’ve fucking known!”

But THEN, he starts laughing to.

We joke all the time about race issues. He’ll call me a Nazi, Cracker, Gerwidish (German-Swedish) mother-fucker…

And I’ll call him a Klingon-looking, MONKEY.

Oh, and btw, did I mention? He ended up being my best man.

He and I had similar backrounds. He, one of the only dark kids to go to a preppy white-school, and I, one of the only light kids to go to a dark, ghetto school. Fucker got a better education than me…but I digress.

We joke because IT DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING. We can laugh about the stupid shit of people because, in a way, WE KNOW BETTER. Folks are folks, different than each other in a lot of ways, but so what?

You see, in the end, its people like Shitizen who are the REAL racists. They run around screaming about “diversity”, and “tolerance” when what they REALLY mean is:

“You stay over there in your little box so I can treat you like a monkey in a cage, and feel really good about myself when I throw you a banana”. Diversity is DIVISIVE you stupid assclowns!

And “tolerance”? As if my friend should EVER want to be fucking “TOLERATED”. Who are you to say that someone else needs to be “tolerated”? What? Do they smell? Do they look so hideous, that the best YOU can do is TOLERATE them? Good God, you so called “liberals” are worse than anyone!

AND, don’t even get me started on “gun control” and how racist THAT little gem is.

Anyways….

Oh, shit - you just got me!

I actually giggle-snorted on that one, which was compounded by the fact that I was trying to eat my lunch at the time. I damn near choked!

I didn't find it racist. Just think of all the times Dubya was portrayed-as or compared-to a chimp. And the only insult was to the poor chimps ...

But I digress ...

No, what I found disturbing was that it implied it was OK to assassinate the president if you disagreed with him.

If THAT cartoon had been printed about Bush, you'd never hear the end of how bad it was, how demented the 'libruls' were for thinking it, how the cartoon could even be illegal.

This is why you shouldn't eat lead paint chips in your youth. NO ONE mistook that cartoon to mean anything of the sort, because NO ONE IS THAT STUPID. Hell, even Al Sharpton knows better, he just got caught trying to do what he ALWAYS does, and that's to draw attention to himself.

NO ONE ? Is that another Rap Fact™ ?

"NEW YORK (CNN) -- Leaders of the NAACP on Saturday called for the firing of the New York Post cartoonist whose drawing lampooning the federal stimulus bill has drawn charges that it's racist and encourages violence toward President Obama."

That's only in your own mind. The cartoon actually implied that the Stimulus package is so screwed up it must have been written by a crazed Chimpanzee like the one killed by police recently. It's only intention was to associate the Stimulus with insane stupidity, if it referred to any person that would have been Nancy Pelosi since she is more responsible for writing the legislation than anyone else in the public eye and looks the most like an ape.

I think the Post hit the nail on the head in their "apology".

"However, there are some in the media and in public life who have had differences with The Post in the past -- and they see the incident as an opportunity for payback," the statement says. "To them, no apology is due. Sometimes a cartoon is just a cartoon -- even as the opportunists seek to make it something else."

so, finally, it begins.....

The NAACP ? Oh, they're not at ALL an organization that tries to fan the flames of discontent these days, as they try to stay relevant.

Riiiiight.
