I want to know what drug Pelosi was on last night that caused her to spring up and down 61 times like a prairie dog in heat. Man, she was all pumped and primed and determined to be the first one up each time, even getting a bit of a head start each time before Obama would finished his sentence. It was pretty damn funny to see. I'll wager she hasn't been up and down that much since her early days as a stripper-pole defect inspector at the San Francisco Gay Follies Revue. And poor Joe Biden. Taking his cues from perky Pelosi, he also went up and down 61 times. Must have been murder on his 'roids. I almost detected a wrinkle appear in his botox-laden forehead, but alas, it was just a shadow.

Just imagine how many times they would have stood up if things were actually good in America? I'd guess probably 724 times in 60 minutes. Once again, Obama played the "crisis card" as an excuse to justify the Dems wet dream spending bill. And they roared to that, and every word of Bush blame Obama uttered caused Pelosi's Tammy-Faye make-up to crack and run; by the end of it she looked like she had been through hell night on Halloween.

Gimme back the old days when VP's & Speakers basically just yawned and slept through the President's annual Knute Rockne speech. Seriously, it was a vile spectacle; a body of crusty old millionaire obtuse twits trying to re-assure Americans that banks and stocks are safe, and that jobs are on the way. Sure.

She knows this is her last best chance to con the American public. It falls in line w/ the rush, rush, rush of the Enormulus bill, and then moving on to the NEXT massive grab by the Imperial Federal Gov't.

Congressmen, who have never found the time to actually read the grotesque spending bill, sure found time to place markers on chairs early in the day to reserve their seats for a chance to meet Robin Obama and his merry men as they entered the chamber. I wonder if even Obama has actually read the 1000+ page liberal political payback plan.

A special moment for me was when the 3 RINOs came a'prancing in along side their Democrat masters, and took their dutiful place by their sides. A water bowl and bisquit treats were provided for them I'm sure.

Wow, I'm humbled in the face of this bi-partisan discussion y'all are having here.
Sorry you can't take the positive words concerning the greatness of America to heart; I guess you think Obama is incorrect- we are stupid & weak & will fail miserably as a nation now.
Oh well, enjoy your chicken little. Mine was in seeing this fall happen. Yours is obviously in believing we can never get up from it.

I'm just sayin' that if McCain had gotten in, he'd be doin' what Obama is- sure, a tweak here & there, but basically the same thing (albeit with the added threat of a Palin takeover should he fall ill).

If McCain had won, and he had the sense to keep Sarah quiet, you'd be hearing far less negativity from me than I seem to be hearing from you. That's all I'm sayin'.

Bad as in not transparent, which is at least one important thing Obama is addressing. Hate him if you want, but a good thing is a good thing, no matter who does it.

Curious AU, would you just let our economy totally collapse to fix the problem? Take government totally out of the equation?

Chris, if I've been "negative" as you allude to, I have maybe gone too far. I'm NOT wishing for the Dems & Obama to fail. I'm just a bystander trying, if not successfully, to inject some humor into the situation. Obama, to me, sounds like he's still campaigning. He speaks in flowery alliteration, making broad visionary statements of Lincolnesque proportions. Unfortunately, I don't believe a word of any of it, and the Pelosi-Reid politics behind it all sickens me.

I guess 9/11 never did happen, did it ? Must be nice to ignore ISLAMO-FASCIST evil and pretend everything those monsters have done all around th world simply never happened.

And America never fell from greatness. That's something the Left wishes were the case, and in fact WANTS us to fail. The way Obama has us headed, we will be the FORMER Great nation, and our future really will be bleak.

Spoken like a true lapdog. You fell for it, big time. You will now support war into the 23rd Century on the basis of a single incident. Long after the rest of those that perped 9-11 are dead, they'll have you yellin' for blood like a good little hound. Enjoy your mindless participation in the fear mongering, dude.

Glad you can at least acknowledge the Pelosi follies last night. As for the rest, I think this demonstrates perfectly how different folks feel about politics. Back in the early Bush days I was quite proud and happy to see Bush and America finally going after the terrorists who had attacked us multiple times over many years. It felt good, but I couldn't understand why those on the other side of the aisle couldn't appreciate the direction, or what was at stake, and instead sought to attack, demean, and obstruct every chance they got. Now the shoe's on the other foot, and you're having a hard time (maybe?) understanding why the 60+ million people who voted for McCain don't get the "Chris Mathews thrill up the leg" feeling about Obama as you do. I want America's economy to recover, and I hold Bush to blame for much of the mess. Anyone who doesn't want to see America come out of this is a traitor or just nuts. But it is interesting how people and things are perceived by different people in so many different intellectual and emotional ways.

You gotta take your hope filter off. It's filtering out the excessive fear mongering I heard last night. Not only are the terrorists going to get us, now the totally doomed economy that's falling apart and destroying america and going to rob you in your sleep is going to get and you'll have no home and no health coverage and probably die of some horrible disease. But if you come with me, I can put you in debt for life, and then you might live. I think that was the speech I just heard.

Seriously, no offense, the Obama fell travellers sound as bad as the Bush fellow travellers. And I was really psyched for this speech. I was expecting big change. Instead I heard doom and gloom and a little stealth tactics like "lets sell handing over tons of corporate welfare to banks and drug companies as "helping people" and let's sell unchecked wars of aggression as "moving towards peace."

Democrat talking points are just slightly different than Republican ones:

In Republican, it's "My agenda will keep us safe, protect us from enemies, and make business thrive."

In Democrat it's "My agenda will make peace, and help poor people, not greedy CEOS."

But read between the lines, it's the identical f^&king agenda, just worded differently to sell it to democrats instead of selling it to republicans.

I can understand your souring on Iraq after the many blunders that occurred, but why against it at the onset? Did you have intelligence available to you that Congress didn't. Certainly, it's well documented that many, many Dems including Clinton, Kennedy, Biden, Liebermann, Kerry, etc etc ALL believed Iraq had WMD's and said so publicly many times. I'll admit the Colin Powell dog & pony show at the UN was very embarassing to see, and our allies' refusals to help us was bewildering, but I did originally believe in the cause. There was no reason not to. Looting, Paul Bremer, Abu Grahib, Al Qaeda infiltration all were yet to come. One in my shoes would have never imagined those debacles possible. I trusted the Govt. to have planning & intelligence, and it failed for years, until the surge swept out most of the bad guys. Now the Stimulus Pkg. plus add'l new Dem spending giveaways.... No one knows where America will end up.

"I did originally believe in the cause. There was no reason not to."

There were plenty of reasons not to - all available in the media, albeit usually only once and at odd times. In other words, you had to look sharply to see them.

The hasty exit from Afghanistan when just a few months before the US had been whipped into a frenzy with 'Dead or Alive !', the aluminum tubes the DOE said were useless as centrifuge tubes but which might make good missile bodies; the forged yellowcake documents; known unreliable source called 'Curveball'; the Senate report Part I (Part II never materialized); the fact that US troops were NOT equipped with proper CBW protective gear; the hasty timetable; THE FACT THAT UN INSPECTORS WERE NOT FINDING WMDS AND WERE NOT ALLOWED TO FINISH THEIR INSPECTIONS - there were many, many tracks all over the place showing that the Iraq attack was a pre-planned act of aggression that had nothing to do with WMDs.

We didn't sanction torture, we dealt w/ an enemy which has no nation, no uniform, and signs no treaty. For you to continue this facade of complete ignorance, after all that's gone on in the world over the pat 20 yrs, is nothing short of pathetic.

Since it was well-documented that Iraq was paying families of suicide bombers in Palestine, it didn't seem THAT far of a reasonable stretch to believe that Iraq could "hand off" some WMD gas or biological toxin to terrorists groups. They wouldn't necesarily need ICBM's to deliver them. At least that's what I thought.

"We aren't"

Which has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that WE HAVE installed our own puppet regime in Iraq, and it's been in place since 2003. So while technically "we aren't", it's a certainty that WE WERE as little as 4 years ago - and I don't remember you having a single problem with it then, when it was your beloved Bush in charge of the BIG government.

So either government is the problem, or it's the solution. Not both.

DREAMTROVE

I hate to interrupt the hate, but auraptor is right. The govt. of Iraq hates us, or at least feels less that passionate about our relationship, in particular, they would like our guys to leave.

This is because we set up a democracy, and they voted some people into office. Talibani, who is actually Taliban, it's not a linguistic coincidence, and Maliki, who is one Sadr's people. This isn't the govt. we might've wanted. We supported moderates that we thought would be better. But ultimately, we weren't the Iraqis, and it wasn't up to us to decide what they wanted. They wanted us gone, about 80% of Iraqis do, a number increasing by about 10% a year, and so they voted for the guys who they thought would get rid of us.

If we really want moderates to win in Iraq, the best thing to do is to let the democracy we set up work, step back, get out of their country, open up trade, start buying their oil, and start selling them ipods.

As for the above comment Jongstraw is right, Saddam Hussein had the weapons the Rummy sold him (that's how we knew. If we hadn't known, we would have made up a better story, because that was a terrible reason to go to war.) And he wasn't a total moron, given the UN resolution, he couldn't be cause with them, so he sold them to someone, probably some terrorist group, maybe one of the ones working for us right now in afghanistan. Our president was a moron in thinking that he would still have some of these agents, there was a lot of talk of sarin nerve gas, which has a very short shelf life, sold to Iraq in 1982, used against Iran, and probably the kurds, suspected of collaborating with Iran, it wouldn't have been very useful 20 years later.

But all of this is kicking a very dead horse.

RUE

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

"Obama, to me, sounds like he's still campaigning."

He has to.

You may not remember even thought it was mere weeks ago, but he disappeared for 3 weeks or so, trying to work out a plan. He was ready to iron out differences and create a bipartisan effort. But the repubicans were against the bill before they even saw it, and played politics rather than try to help the country. Along with the right-wing lapdog MSM they were spreading lies non-stop about the bill, what was in it, and who was behind it. That's ALL you heard and saw, night and day, for weeks. (Which, btw, you personally ate up with fork and spoon and shovel - as evidenced by the things you've posted which come from right-wing country through MSM; and which are demonstrably untrue.)

He had to go back to campaign mode, and will probably be in that mode until he sees he no longer has to counter partisan politics.

BTW I have Dubya's first speech on my computer. Look it up. It's lame, lame, lame.

I tuned in and saw the camera angle with her right over BO's shoulder and gasped - AH! I can't watch this! I'll have to catch the transcript.
I think she wants desperately to help, be of value, but she's a drag instead. She will be one of the main reasons the (male majority) Reps won't come together with Obama - she has been gifted with a large supply anti-charisma and people are simple at every level.

Rue, although I usually disagree with you, most of the time I can at least understand you. But this is new for even you: Right-Wing mainstream media??? What exactly is that? Is it :

NY Times............not
Washington Post.....not
Boston Globe........not
LA Times............not
San Francisco Chronicle...not
Atlanta Journal....not

or

NBC.....not
ABC......not
CBS......not
MSNBC...not
CNN.....not
PBS.....not

So what remains as Right-Wing Mainstream Media? Must be Fox News on TV, and Rush on radio. Those 2 little entities against the muscle and wealth of all of the above? Puuullleeeeeze, gimme a break!

Rappy, you can't flame "Government" and shill for the GOP at the same time, it looks ridiculous, and in case ya didn't notice, they're Government too!

That's like shilling for an Anarchist King, it makes no sense.

All that said, NOBODY likes Pelosi, there's a bull market in dartboards there, anyone wants to go free enterprise and tap it - course they'd prolly whine that such was a terrorist threat...

Jonggstraw: The media NEVER represents "the left". It's like DT said in the other thread: you could have 10,000 people marching against the war and "the media" would say "Marchers were on both sides of the question" and then show you six people from each side. That's why you never heard from the MSM about the dozens of antiCAFTA peeps who were gassed and clubbed in Miami or the Oakland antiwar dockworkers who were beaten.
Quote:

At the start of the war in Iraq, hundreds of protesters demonstrated on the Oakland docks, and longshoremen honored their picket lines. Without warning, police in riot gear opened fire with so-called less-than-lethal weapons, shooting protesters and longshoremen alike with wooden dowels, rubber bullets, pellet bags, concussion grenades and tear gas. A U.N. Human Rights Commission investigator characterized the Oakland police attack as "the most violent" against anti-war protesters in the United States.

Ever.

I'd rather torture 100 terrorist than allow one of them to murder an innocent. You care more about the rights of the terrorist than you do your own family.

Sucks to be you.

Um, not so much. Joss has proven time and again that he has an astute knowledge and command of the language. As such, he gets some leeway to mangle it a bit, because he knows what he's doing.

You, on the other hand, have never shown any such mastery of the language. Far from it. English > You.

Actually, I think you're just fine with torturing 100 innocents in the hopes of finding one terrorist.

I'm supposed to care about the rights of EVERYBODY exactly as much as I care about the rights of my own family. That's the idea behind "equal protection under the law." I know such lofty goals are beyond you, but it was the idea the founding fathers had, that the least of us were exactly as deserving of the rule of law as the best of us.

You remind me very much of young Will Roper in "A Man For All Seasons"...

Quote:

William Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!

Sir Thomas More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?

William Roper: Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!

Sir Thomas More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!
