US Airways 1549 sims:

Note how pathetic the ATC response was, totally unable to comprehend current events, without an emergency checklist. The only thing that saved the passengers and crew was private boaters coming to the rescue.

Pilot sounds like he presumed he was gonna die. Later interviews admitted he was scared to death, but too busy to worry about it. Didn't have time to hit the Ditch Switch to close the fuel tank vents.

Why glider training should be required for all commercial pilots.

Interesting comment. You may be interested in reading "Freefall" by J Nance I think, true story. Became a made-for-TV movie with the actual original pilot playing the test simulator supervisor. Reportedly, no pilot has sucessfully passed that sim.

Fuselages are not intended for water landings and the Hudson pilot reasonably expected to not survive, but would attempt everything possible to maximize passenger survival rates. The low wave height of the Hudson likely was a great advantage.
