Why would we even worry about North Korea? Iraq was the more imminent threat by far! Right?

You know, if I wasn't from the US, and I hated freedom and all that, I'd think the whole thing was pretty funny. Big arrogant fatcats taken down by their own hubris (and someone clever enough to exploit it).

But I am, and I don't, and it isn't.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

I wonder if China cares ?

Though it's not like we can ask any favors from them at the moment, seeing as we need them to keep our economy afloat and all that.

Still, they might have reasons of their own to be concerned.

Still trying to figure out how OBL fits in here, anywhere at all.

How is this against international law anyway ?

I imagine China doesn't care because it is a total non-issue.

And surely most here must realize by now the American approach of short term goals ( short sighted ) and barking demands and threats usually only causes tinpot dictators and nutjobs to get their backs up and fight against whatever noise you are making.

Or is it the promoting of domestic fear agenda what is the concern of FAUX news ?

The sunshine rapprochement while slow is the only thing that will make progress towards peace, crack the door, work against the propaganda by NOT feeding it by presenting yourself as the enemy threat that keeps the dictator in power.

The payoff will likely only occur after Kim Jong-il is gone, and the views of possible successors are being shaped today... but that is the long view; China is very good at seeing the long view, why is it Americans cannot see more that 4 years down the road with their foreign policy?

Indeed.

Our endless provocations handed Castro an external enemy to unify his people against, and kept him in power for decades, it's not at all the first time nor the last we've made this mistake.

Our most recent repeat has been Chavez, who initially was doing, overall, a pretty good job, but his own arrogance and ambition's lead him right down the slippery slope as of late - ain't too worried about him, so much as I am whoever succeeds him, what with him striking off limits on the power of his office that were in place for very good reasons.

Anyhows, rapprochement, is prolly a good idea, especially in combination with refusing to empower them by taking their threats seriously.

Folks offer threat for various reasons, North Korea current reminds me of a puffer-fish blowing themselves up to look big and scary so they don't get eaten - and we fed into this by our obvious actions in suddenly playing ball with the folks who HAD nukes, and invading, then wrecking the country of, those who did not.

That set a BAD precedent for non-proliferation all over the globe.

Mostly N Korea just wants to be left the hell alone, for all the smack they talk, and the smartest thing we can do is do just that, leave em alone to run their own country as they please, if we don't like em, we ain't gotta trade with em - and without an external enemy to justify it, continuing or increasing investment into war toys is just gonna bankrupt em and annoy the folks they do share a border with into restricting trade.

We stop giving these assholes excuses, and their own people will lose patience soon enough, and replace them with someone more reasonable - of course, most of them more reasonable folk don't see eye to eye with us either, and we have this nasty little tendancy don't you know, to murder then or forment coups against em.

We need to stop doing THAT shit too, cause if you think about it, it's really the ghost of Mossedeigh chewing our ass over there in the middle east even now.

Anyone, every time I hear Kim go on like that, this is the image what pops into my head.

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it
