Specter . . . What a boob

Quote:"I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans," Specter said in a statement posted on a Web site devoted to Pennsylvania politics and confirmed by his office.
Quote:Asked by a reporter what he had to say to his constituents, Specter replied with a smile, "I don't have to say anything to them. They said it to me."

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Quote:Originally posted by Kwicko: So your belief is that people don't support the candidate, but rather his party? In other words, when you vote, you're not voting for THE MAN and his ideas, you're voting for THE PARTY and ITS ideas. Is that how I'm reading you, Rip? I figure if the majority of Specter's state went Democratic, he's reacting to their shift in party, and trying to best represent THEIR interests. Believe it or not, I *HAVE* lived through this sort of thing before. Phil Gramm used to be a Democrat. After the Reagan Revolution, in 1983, he switched parties and became a Reagan Republican. He finished out his term in the House, and then got elected to the U.S. Senate as a Republican. Was he a traitor, or a patriot? I suppose the answer to that probably has a lot to do with how you identify your own party affiliation. What's got me MOST worried about Specter is the spectre (pardon the pun) of a filibuster-proof Senate. Scary stuff, no matter which side of the aisle you're on. I *DETEST* rubber-stamp Congresses no matter whose agenda their rubber-stamping! And with Franken's victory all but assured, Specter would make the magic 60 for the Dems. With a rock-solid majority in the House already, and a Democrat in the White House, this sets the stage for all kinds of abuse of power, the likes of which we haven't seen in... well, in about three years, to be honest. I mean, while I might welcome moderates like Specter, Snowe, and Collins, do I have to keep Harry Reid? Ain't there some horse-tradin' we can do here? Tell ya what - you've got an honest face. I'm gonna give you the brother-in-law deal. You take Reid and Pelosi, and I'll throw in Hillary, and we get Specter, Snowe, and Collins. Deal? (Crosses fingers, hoping Jongs takes the deal...) "There's the MAIN problem right there. Dude need to be sat down, for good. Time for him to be shown the door." Strom Thrumond I might add, switched parties, from democrat to repubican, in 1964 due to shifting demographics.

As I read it, he said he had toured the state and talked to his constituents and felt that his changing parties was not only more represetantive of HIS basic philosophy but also of the people he represented. Quote:You're either switching because of your own personal beleifs or because you felt a change in the wind and are going to save your rear end politically I thought he ahd explained that pretty fully. He said it was the Republican Party which had changed, not him. The party had moved too far to the right and he no longer felt like they were heading in the same direction. Did your article leave that out? --------------------------------- They pit us like dogs against each other and rake it in. And I'll bet they laugh when they hear dupes like you defend the system that fucks you over and rewards them so nicely! But the one thing they'll stamp out in horror as if it were the spark of conflagration is any whiff of socialism. That should tell you something.
