Quote:Surprisingly, the Moon is a moderately bright gamma-ray source. The only part of the electromagnetic spectrum where the Moon is brighter than the Sun is gamma rays." www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/GLAST/science/solar_system.html How much radiation awaits lunar colonists? A new NASA mission aims to find out. September 8, 2005: On the Moon, many of the things that can kill you are invisible: breathtaking vacuum, extreme temperatures and space radiation top the list. The surface of the Moon is baldly exposed to cosmic rays and solar flares, and some of that radiation is very hard to stop with shielding. Furthermore, when cosmic rays hit the ground, they produce a dangerous spray of secondary particles right at your feet. All this radiation penetrating human flesh can damage DNA, boosting the risk of cancer and other maladies. Out in deep space, radiation comes from all directions. On the Moon, you might expect the ground, at least, to provide some relief, with the solid body of the Moon blocking radiation from below. Not so. When galactic cosmic rays collide with particles in the lunar surface, they trigger little nuclear reactions that release yet more radiation in the form of neutrons. The lunar surface itself is radioactive! http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2005/08sep_radioactivemoon.htm

Quote:Originally posted by AnthonyT: Piratenews, you have frequently asserted that no manned mission ever went to the Moon, and that no leftover structures or vehicles are visible there, even to the most potent terrestrial imaging equipment. What, then, of the laser reflector placed on the moon during the Apollo missions and used to measure distance?
Quote:On January 10, 1946 ,a radio amateur in the US Army Signal Corps bounced a radar beam off the moon, marking the first Earth-Moon-Earth transmission. Amateurs using EME today continue to explore the boundaries of radio technology, and its popularity continues to grow. The first Amateur Radio signals to echo from the moon were transmitted in 1953. Ross Bateman, W4AO, and William L. Smith, W3GKP, bounced 144-MHz signals off the moon. EME today is an increasingly popular Amateur Radio operating mode among VHF and UHF enthusiasts. Radio amateurs regularly beam signals to the moon, with their reflections painting a large area of our planet. -American Radio Relay League www.arrl.org/news/features/2002/01/21/1/ ARRL's Introduction to Moonbounce (EME = Earth-Moon-Earth) www.arrl.org/tis/info/moon.html

There is radar tracking corroboration that an Apollo spacecraft was launched and went to the moon and came back from the moon. So do you posit that we landed reflectors on the moon but no people? If evidence of other Apollo structures are found on the surface, will you posit that we sent those structures also, but absent of their occupants?
