Obama to Sell B-2 Bomber Blueprints to China to Pay Off Debt

On April 1st, President Obama spoke to Chinese Premier Hu Jintao during the G20 Summit. During this meeting, Mr. Hu expressed interest in writing off some of the US debt in exchange for military technology. The President has since referred the matter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

The Defense Department is reportedly furious with the President’s proposal to sell blueprints of the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber to the People’s Republic. Gates has flatly rejected the President’s plan, but has since been asked to step down if he will not facilitate the process.

According to the deal, the United States would sell the plans for the B-2, along with radar-absorbing paints and metals in exchange for $50 billion in debt relief. The B-2 cost the US government $23 billion to develop the bomber in the 1980s.

According to the Administration, this proposal will help the United States resolve its debt issues. They point out their belief that the B-2 bomber is “strategically obsolete”, according to a source in the White House Press Office. In addition, the source claims that the Chinese would be unable to create their own functioning stealth bomber fleet for “at least eight years.”

American allies Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea are very wary of the proposal. Koo Syi, a geopolitical analyst from South Korea, points out that this technology could be passed to China’s allies. This was the case when Chinese nuclear technology was transferred to Pakistan and North Korea. According to Koo, Obama has rendered US allies’ opinions as “irrelevant.”

Why would China want it ?

Price to build and maintain them vs performance they would be far better off with B1s and improved ALCM tech.

Besides improvement in computers and communications along with bistatic radar developments, pretty much eliminates the utility of the steath tech used by the F117 and B2 anyway.

You wouldn't happen to have any OTHER sources for that story, would you? Sorry, but your credibility isn't really impressing me lately, and your penchant for overinflating your hyperbolic claims is well-known. How many illegal aliens are we supposed to be making room for this week? 387 trillion?

Oohh - Good catch, Fivver! I was kinda wondering why or how we hadn't heard a single word about this anywhere.

So it's about as legit as most of PN's posts, eh? Figures. I tend to take ALL of his words with a grain of salt about the size of a deer lick...

Let's all sing the Space Pirates Theme Song (unless you're Jewish of course):

Captain DJ heads the crew,
Honk and Tonk and Lippy too,
Jolly Roger chatting with you,
Space Pirates!

And we all sing,
Na na-na na na,
Space Pirates!
Na na-na-na-na na,
Space Pirates!
Na na-na na na,
Space Pirates!

Hey!

Na na-na na na,
Space Pirates!
Na na-na-na-na na,
Space Pirates!
Na na-na na na,
Space Pirates!
Hey! Hey! Hey!

FREMDFIRMA

I prefer the Lazy Town version myself.

Do what you want, ‘cause a pirate is free,
YOU ARE A PIRATE!
Yar har, fiddle di dee,
Being a pirate is alright to be,
Do what you want ‘cause a pirate is free,
You are a pirate!

(spoken)You are a pirate!
(crowd)Yay!

We've got us a map, (a map!)
To lead us to a hidden box,
That's all locked up with locks! (with locks!)
And buried deep away!

We'll dig up the box, (the box!)
We know it's full of precious booty!
Burst open the locks!
And then we'll say hooray!

(changes to electronic euro-pop crap music)

(girl's voice)Yar, har, fiddle di dee.
If you love to sail the sea,
You are a pirate!

(spoken)Weigh anchooor!

Yar har, fiddle di dee,
Being a pirate is alright with me!
Do what you want '‘cause a pirate is free,
You are a pirate!
Arr yarr, ahoy and avast,
dinky-dink-dink-a-dinkadefast!
Hang the black flag
At the end of the mast!
You are a pirate!

Hahaha! (Yay!)

We're sailing away (set sail!),
Adventure awaits on every shore!
We set sail and explore (ya-har!)
And run and jump all day (Yay!)
We float on our boat (the boat!)
Until its time to drop the anchor,
Then hang up our coats (aye-aye!)
Until we sail again!

(girl's voice)Yar, har, fiddle di dee.
If you love to sail the sea,
You are a pirate!

Laaaand ho!

Yar har, fiddle di dee,
Being a pirate is alright with me!
Do what you want ‘cause a pirate is free,
You are a pirate!

(spoken)Yar har, wind at your back, lads,
Wherever you go!

(singing)Blue sky above and blue ocean below,
You are a pirate!

(spoken)Hahahahaa!
You're a pirate!

EDIT: Have to add a youtube link here.

My niece currently wants to run a pirate ship, up to and demanding (and getting) her crazy uncle to send her a model of one.
A sixteen year old girl who's a natural anarchist with a mind as crooked as her uncle and delusions of eventual piracy, oh joy oh joy - and she *wonders* why I have one of my "goons" keeping an eye on her ?

FREMDFIRMA

Actually one of the most hilarious things about that is that for all the entertainment industry's bullshit, that dreaded "piracy" has SOLD me hundreds of bucks worth of their stuff which I wouldn't have never been aware of or interested in otherwise.

Captain Tylor, Rozen Maiden, Azumanga Diaoh, All Purpose Cultural Cat-Girl Nuku Nuku (so head-bangingly STUPID it's actually damn funny), Space Above & Beyond, Gunslinger Girl, Black Lagoon, Elfen Lied, and Baens *entire* webscription list of Bolo Series E-books set in Keith Laumers BOLO universe, not to mention CDs of bands I woulda never even heard of otherwise.

Just off the top of my head, and we're talkin a couple hundred bucks of stuff here, NONE of which I'd have given as much as a second glance without a sample or two that was technically "pirated" material.

Of em all, the only one who knows "piracy" SELLS MORE STUFF is Eric Flint, who makes no bones whatever about it in a truly awesome rant, here.
http://www.baen.com/library/

"In short, rather than worrying about online piracy — much less tying ourselves and society into knots trying to shackle everything — it just makes more sense, from a commercial as well as principled point of view — to "steal from the stealers. "

Don't bother robbing me, twit. I will cheerfully put up the stuff for free myself. Because I am quite confident that any "losses" I sustain will be more than made up for by the expansion in the size of my audience.

For me to worry about piracy would be like a singer in a piano bar worrying that someone might be taping the performance in order to produce a pirate recording. Just like they did to Maria Callas!

Sheesh. Best thing that could happen to me. . ."

That was NINE YEARS AGO, and Eric, and Dave, and Jim Baen, along with other authors, put their money where their mouth was, and proved it beyond all doubt - and yet, those who wanted to squeeze and squeeze and squeeze, treating their customers as the enemy and locking stuff up to the point where the shit doesn't WORK (yes, DRM) or is such a hassle it's not worth the money, especially when the cost of all that super-restrictive "protecion" is passed on to the customer who winds up paying for their own annoyance and often as not, spends their money somewhere ELSE cause of that - are pissing and whining and watching their sales drop and business model fail.

And you know, I don't feel sorry for em, not one bit.

So yo ho ho and a bottle of home-made brew!
"Michigan Compiled Laws Chapter 436, Act 58 of 1998, Chapter 2, Section 436.1207, creates an exception to the Michigan Liquor Control Code for home manufacture of beer, wine, mead, honey-based beer, or cider and allows for gifting of such beverages of up-to 20 gallons per year."

Ayep, TWENTY GALLONS, folks, hell, I got fourteen left and it's June already...

Too bloody right, Frem. I have a simple rule that I abide by: If I download three songs from an album and like them all, I have to buy the album. Period. I say three because I've gotten robbed plenty enough times by hearing that one song on the radio and buying the album, only to find out that the rest is tripe of the worst sort.

And I've discovered SOOOOOO many bands I never would have heard otherwise, from The Arcade Fire to Kezia Jones, Michael Fronti, Conor Oberst, Black Angels, Deathcab For Cutie, Iron & Wine, The Postal Service, and more. They've made solid money off me BECAUSE I pirated their music first.
