Did anyone see this? I don't watch Maher. I think he's a bit of a turd, but I found what he said here pretty interesting.

Though I'm extremely hesitant about what Obama's plans are or might be for America, he's too worried about getting the word out to the public. Too worried about looking good. It's almost Clinton-esqe how worried he is about his image with the general public. I agree with Maher that Obama is on TV too much and is doing too little. It seems that every day I turn on the radio and he's on a trip somewhere to talk to a group of people about this, that or the other. What he really needs to do is just GET ON WITH IT. Win or lose, pass or fail, succeed or fall flat on his face. Get the gumption to act on the principals he ran on to get himself elected. The time for community organizing is over and it's time to ACT. I get the feeling like he's a mountain climber getting ready to defeat Mt. Everest. It's a huge challenge he's got to make all the changes he promised to make during the campaign. But he's not going to get anywhere if all he does is pace around the base of the mountain talking about the climb and the challenges.

I agree more action is needed from Obama. He does talk a good talk, and with what some of his critics come forward with I would argue he needs to be on TV as much as he is to repute them, some action is definitely required.

But I suspect a lot of the hesitation we are seeing is in regard with getting some of his actions through the houses, some of the change he promised will not be popular there, and may likely even be voted down by his own party.

But more action soon would be a great idea.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with his adressing right-wing, or left-wing attacks directly to the people at all,

that has been smart politics, it has kept him in a position of advantage and strength...

and then he has seemingly done very little with it.

He is letting a faction of the democratic party that has alligned itself with the gop on corporate interests over american interests, water down his agenda to impotency, because, I assume anyway, he doesn't want to risk bipartisan defeats of policy...

that's some B.S that he's going to need to stop if he doesn't want to have a tepid legacy, as the 1st President of our 3rd world nation.

He has the venue...he should be taking it to all his opponents, center right Democrats included(if indeed, they are his opponents...)

nothing wrong with making his case to the people, and nothing wrong with finally standing firm on some key points rather than always playing the compromise card, always allowing the special intersts a place at the table(and apparently, full veto power)...

If he's not losing any battles, he's not fricken fighting any.

Alas, if you study The Constitution of the United States, even as amended and currently applied, there isn't a LOT he can DO by himself. He can ask Congress to legislate something, but they have to process and pass it in both houses. Then somebody has to sue, and it has to work its way up to Supreme Court review. That's how it goes.

He can do some things by Executive Order , like close Guantanamo, but even that is stymied because Congress won't allocate any money to do it. Or should he just march the prisoners to the gate and dump 'em in a Cuban sugar cane field?

So what else should he do, but talk and argue-- it's called jaw-boning and arm-twisting-- to get the reluctant or opposing politicians to go along?

Maybe if he can stir up enough public support, loud enough, enough voters will put enough pressure on enough Congressmen to get them to pass legislation and allocations to get what he wants done, done.

Agreed.

However, if you really want change YOU need to be focusing on the "blue dog Democrats" in the House

We have a Blue Dog Democrat from our state that I'm fairly unimpressed with. He always strikes me as being watered down and ineffective because of his constant pandering to opposing interests in the same breath. Compromise and moderation is good, but only if something besides red tape actually results from it.

Hmm...

Why does that sound so tempting? It seems like a bad idea to not monitor people who really want to indiscriminately see lots of Americans dead, and yet I wonder just how much these people could accomplish after almost five years in prison and no resources to speak of.

Not a bad idea, but I'm not sure how that would affect our relations with Cuba, which seem to be FINALLY starting to thaw a bit...

Obama is a disappointment to me. I'm not saying I wish I'd voted for someone else (oh lordy no!); I'm just saying I wish he'd get off his ass and actually DO something constructive. He took control with a firm mandate from the left, or at least center-left, and then he grabbed the wheel with both hands and steered straight toward the middle, all while hitting the brakes. The net result? Nothing good, but lots of spin.

And 90% of it is just plain idiocy and fear. He got elected to DO shit, to FIX things, and he's got the deer-in-the-headlights look like Chevy Chase on premiere night of his talk show. To paraphrase The West Wing, it's time to "Let Obama be Obama!" Sure, he's going to make the wrong moves now and again, but I'd rather see him make a wrong move than make NO move at this point.

As I said a day or so ago, give me a decent candidate and I'll vote Republican. Or Libertarian. Or Contrarian. Actually, I may start my own party, The Contrarian Party. Our motto is "No We Won't!"

I did tellya he was gonna get steamrollered a'la Jimmy Carter and not manage to accomplish very much due to lack of contacts and influence within the system, yes ?

And I did note that he was bringing in the Clintonistas to give him a "big stick" but that they would renege on their promises once they had their payoff, too.

However, while he will, eventually, sink - imma just let his ass tread water while I deal with the greater threat, the collective of Straussian-NeoCon-PNAC-CleanBreak Neo Feudo-Fascists who are still at large and planning their big comeback.

We didn't down the bastards after McCarthy, we didn't do it after Nixon, or Reagan, and EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN TIME in about 12-15 years they sleaze their way back in, and we wind up paying for it exponentially, we're STILL choking on the deterius that was the nightmare of McCarthyism, and it's evil scar upon us has not yet been blotted out, shit like the McCarran Act, the blowback from Operation Ajax, and all the rest, it is still with us, poisoning us from within.

And every time the damage is worse, exponentially - our country, our nation, will NOT survive another round with those assholes in charge, at best a civil war, at worst, world war three.

And there's Obama, not doing the goddamn job.
I'm all for reaching across the aisle, but that particular cancer among us must be hunted down and excised before it's malignant growth kills us all.

These assholes have always been with us, from the Federalists under Adams, to that monster Lincoln, Wilson and the first red scare, WWI, to McCarthy, Scoop Jackson, Nixon, Reagan and Bush, it's the same long line of the same old Feudalistic bullshit that has always left naught but carnage and misery in it's wake - and I warn you, here and now, that if not snuffed out now, it will be the end of us next time.

Like I said before, it's come to bar fight rules, and we need to put the boot in and FINISH THE JOB before we worry about engaging anyone else, and that unfortunately includes leaving Obamalamadingdong to flounder helplessly in the face of dealing with the greater threat.

Sure, they look all but obliterated, but so too did they after McCarthy, after Nixon... and there they were in 2000, weren't they ?

I for one will not voluntarily condemn my nephews and nieces to a future of our failures.

You go lookin to the Republican party for salvation here, remember just who you're getting in bed with, and what the cost of that is going to be - and that includes the co-opted NeoCon Lite "Libertarians" under that scumbag Barr, as well.

Your ONLY hope is to finish the goddamn job and then a sideways ambush at the local and state level of third party candidates, culminating in a royal flush of Congress shortly thereafter, against an administration which will grow ever more paranoid and violently resistant to that exact measure, up to and including revamping Cointelpro and Mockingbird, if not worse.

And your time folks, is running out.

NONE of these assholes wants to end the abuses, they just want to switch out whos hand is holding the leash, that's all and you KNOW THAT.

So quit bullshitting yourselves, put the boot in and finish off the party we got on the floor, then pick up a chair and take on the other, to do any less is just fucking irresponsible.

... fully loaded, safety off...

Obama's in the media because the media still likes him. Put "Obama" in any thread title and chances are people will click to read it - people are still wondering what he's up to. Mahrer talks about Obama and now people are talking about him.

The right talks about him every day because they have nothing else to talk about but their hate and bitterness - further underscoring their complete ineptness.

Fox Spews ran the same story, "Obama is on tv way too much..." they said... on their tv show. A bit ironical innit?

Limbaugh - hadn't listened to him for months - clicked over and the 3rd word was "Obama."

Besides: How fast do you folks think it takes to get things unf*cked? Fix Health Care - couple weeks?

All of the above.

And as I have stated several times before, I would make no effort to protect them from being lynched or torn limb from limb by angry citizens, but damned if I think that's a good idea given how badly something like that tends to go, historically.

Hell, for that look no further than the French revolution, although I will say it *did* have a mitigating effect on potential abuses by the powers that be for a long, long time, but the cost was too damn high.

Still, if the choice comes to massive social upheaval and lots of needless violence and death, or the obliteration of our biosphere with nukes when the neo-feudo-fascists decide, like the petulant, petty, sociopathic children they really are, to smash all the toys in the sandbox if they cannot have them....

Well then, violence and bloodshed it is, and I'll play the motherfuckin accordion and dance a little jig too, damn right I will.

I got a little clock in my office that's been counting down for a long time, and these days the numbers are in red, and counting up, you see.

My successor has already taken over operations, so in essence, I got nothin left to lose, cannot be scared off, and be damned if imma not go down swinging, you know ?

I'm sure we'll have plenty to discuss when I get to hell, but long as I have any say in it, they'll be gettin there first.

PS. I do sincerely hope to outlast Kissinger, he's the only other contemporary left of the original crew I set upon when this mantle was passed to me in the first place, so very long ago.
