I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Neda Agha Soltan, a 16-year old philosophy student in Iran, and a bystander on the outskirts of a protest march, was killed by a single sniper shot.

While the Basiji have been widely blamed for her death (1) she was a bystander, widely separated from a protest march. There was no melee and therefore it was not a a shot fired in fear or confusion (2) it required an expert marksman shooting from a rooftop and (3) the Iranian government and its supporters had no interest in creating a sympathetic martyr.

There is a distinct possibility that Neda was killed by an anti-government provocateur. I doubt that USA has "assets" in place, I would suspect the Mossad.

We should have strapped him into a glider, filled it nose heavy w/ explosives, and dropped his Allah lovin' ass into a large, empty field. After which, release wild boars into the area so they could make good use of his remains. Now THAT's justice.- rappy

Yeah, that's what Sheikh Issa said. Seems you both have a lot in common.- signy

KPO

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

I posted a thread a while back about a recent revelation implicating the East German Stasi in this kind of 'martyr creation' provocation act: http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=18&t=38625

But in terms of suspecting Mossad - is there any evidence of them carrying out this kind of killing in the past? or just conspiracy theories like this one.

I've heard them blamed for assassinations of enemies before, but this would be much lower.

Heads should roll

No evidence that it was Mossad specifically. But I have seen people killed by provocateurs before under almost exactly the same circumstances, during anti-government demonstrations in Venezuela about four(?) years ago. One video really stands out: A grandmother in a yellow T-shirt, separated from the demonstration by a least a half-block and well-separated from anyone else, standing and watching, shot in the back of the head by a sniper.

Her death and Neda's were both deliberate. That deliberation just doesn't squre up with the absolute stupidity of such a murder, at least from a government standpoint. So you have to start looking at who has the largest interest in seeing the government fall, and the capacity to make it happen.

By the way, I think Neda was in deep shock by the time she hit the ground. As tragic and heart-rending as the video is, I believe that she wasn't as aware as the video seems to portray. Blessedly and thankfully.

Now, think of all the "collateral damage" that WE precipitated. Every one is as tragic as Neda.
