Sorry, but when somebody gets upset and says "You're playing politics with Kennedy's death," I have to laugh, because I know full well that somewhere, Teddy would be smiling at that idea, and would fully approve. We're dealing with people who will use things like images of "death panels" and Hitler to get THEIR point across, and now *I* am being asked to "play fair"? So sorry, no can do. If politics is the art of compromise, often the best way to achieve that compromise is to put your opponents in a compromising position, so to speak.

I agree that Kennedy's death IS - and SHOULD BE - being politicized. I disagree that this ends the debate. I wish it were so easy, but it would only end the debate if the left were willing to REALLY get out there and use it as an advantage, something they sometimes seem unwilling to do.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Damn, "me too". I DO "understand" the unwillingness to consider public healthcare--but not because it's wrong, more because a) it's a visceral reaction from "I got mine; screw you", b) because it's being lied about to instigate fear, c) because ANYTHING this administration proposes stir up the right, and d) because money and the acumen of the right is being put into practice HARD to keep it from happening.

Ahhh, an Ozzie. I freely admit to having a real weakness for Ozzies and Canuks...so take whatever I say to/about same from that angle!

The link offered to the book on "Authoritarianism" is a real eye opener, and explains all the things you said you don't understand. In America at least, it's SO valid, and scary/sad to understand.

And yes, I'm a cynic too--I think you're right about a world crisis. Bearing in mind that so many are now convinced of the joke "where are we going, and why are we in this handbasket?" (one of my bumperstickrs, but I mean it jokingly, others truly believe the apocalypse is almost upon us and they're the only ones who will benefit from it).

Word, me too. Bearing in mind that the dems have that wonderful talent for "snatching defeat out of the hands of victory", I watch in hope and cynicism, both.

Yup, that's where my cynicism comes in, as above. How often does my hubby get righteously pissed and be angrier at the left for not using the right's excellent but dirty tactics? More than me, I guess, because I pretty much accept it. Dems need to grow a pair--in MANY respects, not just healthcare!
