"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I also wondered why he would say "Okay" to drilling off-shore elsewhere in the world, but "No way, Jose" to off-shore drilling in the U.S.

That decision I chalk up to "strategy". As in, let's go ahead and let the rest of the world sell us THEIR oil, and then when it really, really, REALLY gets scarce, we'll still have a pretty decent backstock.

Of course, that assumes that there's agreement that there IS a finite supply of the stuff in the first place... I realize that there are people here at home who honestly, vehemently believe that we can NEVER run out of oil. Of course, there were those before them who firmly believed we could never run out of buffalo or whales, either, or that it would be impossible to so devastate an ecology that it could no longer support us. For those people, I'd recommend looking into the hearbreaking story of Rapa Nui, and see how a once proud seafaring people chopped down and burned the very last tree on their island, and were thus unable to build any more boats with which to leave the island, and ended up resorting to cannabilism and trying to destroy the statues of their gods that they had so painstakingly carved for centuries before.

Could be, but I'm very hesitant to believe that. It just goes back to my statement about him being hypocritical. If he is so adamantly against it, he should be opposed to it everywhere and not supply loans for such procedures when the money could be used for other purposes in the U.S. But that's just my take on it.

Now . . . if this is indeed a "loan" and we are to get a substantial return on our investment, that might be another story all together.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

HHhhmmm ... let's see - with a loan, you get your capital back AND extra as interest ... the full meal AND desert.

I'm thinking neither you nor Rip know what a loan is.

Well of course you are. After all, he's a DEMOCRAT. It's not like you're just going to wake up one day and stop thinking we're all evil, right?

A politician? Hypocritical? Banish the thought! Where ever would you get such ideas?

Quote:

If he is so adamantly against it, he should be opposed to it everywhere...

Kind of like how some of us are opposed to torture everywhere but in U.S. custody, huh? How some of us are opposed to "socialism", except when it's Grandma's Medicare, junior's public school, or the public roads we drive on every day...

So are you against providing ANYONE with foreign aid? Or should we only cut off foreign aid to those with proven oil reserves, so as not to encourage them to drill for oil?

And if that happens, you'll find an entirely new way to spin it and claim Obama's done something wrong in doing so...

DREAMTROVE

Actually, the policy is worse than it looks

I think the loan was a terrible idea. We get in line behind everyone Brazil owes, but let's assume we're paid back with interest: we get jack compared to the oil they get. If we finance their oil business, we should be getting oil, not interest on a loan. If China were financing it, as they are in Venezuela, that's what they'd get.

There's a lot of drilling going on, for foreign oil. BP just found a huge reserve in the Gulf of Mexico. We blocked expanding the offshore drilling limit, and now there are foreign oil wells lining the US outside our limit. It's just absurd. The argument was environmentalist, but this didn't examine reality: If we didn't drill, someone else would. And they are.

When you finance someone else's oil business, you're financing them. We should be serving energy independence. We're subsidizing our dependence on foreign oil. I don't really care so shutting up now. Just filing this under US: A nation of morons. No change here.

So you're saying you're opposed to socialism? Did I hear that right? I could swear that's what you're saying here. You ARE saying "some of us." Lemme check my glasses...

With the state our economy is in now, regardless of who caused it . . . yeah, I kinda think we should get ourselves back on track first. But that's just me.

Who? Me? NEVER!!! I'd like to think I'd give him credit, but I doubt we'll ever see a dime.
