Exactly .

That's one of the great privileges of being the first black pResident...

Being able to play the 'race card'. Preemptively .

'Cause anyone not in agreement with him or his policies is automatically 'racist'.
Guilty of 'hate crimes' . It's the new 'scarlet letter'.

Rated 'R' for 'racism'.

Not by me, I don't think. I know it embarrasses me, to a degree, to see people acting like fools, and certainly disgusts me. I'm sure there are people with different feelings, but I get pissed off by anyone acting stupid, as he said. I think it only has to do with race because he's Black and takes it more personally as a reflection of himself. I get equally offended because I'm HUMAN and it's a reflection of my species. I really do. As many things "blow my mind" as what he said, be they black or white.

Sounds like he's an Island person...and there, aside from perhaps the tourist areas, I imagine they behave quite a bit differently than Americans do. His focus on "respect" makes me think he's encountered that respect elsewhere so is shocked by the lack of it here.

If you WANT to make it about race, certainly you can, go ahead. But I see it more as about humanity, how a lot of the idiots in our society behave, whether it be the Black guys walking together with their pants nearly falling off they're so low, or the Valley Girl giggling with her simpleton girlfriends about my holding a St. Vincent de Paul bag of clothing.

What makes it about race?

Out; you're an idiot. Chris Rock is an idiot, too--but did you listen to what he said? He was talking about being pulled over by the police, made a joke about it, and about some guy saying "I take care of my kids" which is just what he should do, not something to brag about.

It has nothing to do with the original video posted (and why was yours deleted as an embed?). Just something to jump on the bandwagon about, eh? Pfffft.

I'm not here to pass or fail, I'm here to speak what I believe. Nobody has to agree with me. I just wish guys like Out were smart enough to understand what the original topic WAS, if they want to disagree with it. Ah well..."strange little species, we are..."

An old man I know got a letter from the great B.O. , hat in hand , begging for help with passing 'health care reform'...

It went like this :

'...I just finished laying out my plan for health reform at a joint session of Congress. Now, I'm writing directly to you because what happens next is critical -- and I need your help.

...Change this big will not happen because I ask for it. It can only come when the nation demands it. Congress knows where I stand. Now they need to hear from you.

...The heart of my plan is simple: bring stability and security to Americans who already have health insurance, guarantee affordable coverage for those who don't, and rein in the cost of health care.'

The old man's reply :

'...All I want is for you to cut off all foreign aid , bring the troops home , and put AIPAC out of business !'

The Chris Rock thing...yes, it was funny, he usually is, but it had nothing to do that I could see with what you initially posted. He obviously thought so, too, given his remarks. So why bother?

O2B, everyone wants that, well, assuming by foreign aid you mean "peacekeeping"/occupation.

But the question was about health care...

Can't see either embed right now, I'll watch them later.

Um, and also, I believe Niki was saying that Wulf was saying he felt your video was off topic.

I think I saw that clip before though, I do recall it's very funny. I'm glad that there's people like Chris Rock who can highlight race issues and diffuse the tension through humour. And then make people think.

As for the original video... I haven't necessarily seen gang fights like he describes, but really, are any of those black stereotypes? not all gangs are black. And I've seen white males be very intimidating on public transportation, and like Niki said, shallow girls who laugh at people about fashion, and also white people who listen to their ipods/walkman very loud.

DREAMTROVE

Race is not an issue to Obama. Anyone who has lived in Hyde Park knows that it's not an issue. I suspect the same is true of Hawaii. Some places it's an issue. Obama has never lived in such places. The first time he encountered racism was probably when he met the Clintons (I kid, I know that he has met racism, but racism-lite. It's really not an issue to him. It was an issue for Sharpton, Jackson, and I don't even want to try to speculate what happens in the brain of Louis Farrahkhan, I suspect it's a series of random circuitry malfunctions, resulting in the occasional "I might not have killed Malcolm X" and more commonly "19!")

I've been kicking this idea around in my head for a while...

You know, many people have replaced out-and-out racism, for the more subtle kind. The kind that says "Its not your fault you can't do it, its just that you are XYZ (born here, been held down, not given the right opportunities ect.")

Dang. SOOOOOO close. I don't think it was Chris Rock that she was calling stupid.

Uh, let's see...where exactly did I say anything about "black man"? Same jokes would have been funny spoken by a WHITE stand-up, if put in the third person.

I dunno...who gave you one?

I didn't say you were "off topic", only that what you posted didn't relate to what Wulf posted, so why did you bother?

DT,
Quote:

I would disagree, in that it's THE issue for them, the one and only, their raison d'etre...! And I loved what you said about Farrakhan...and agree wholeheartedly!

Yup, Wulf, you got it,for me:
Quote:

many people have replaced out-and-out racism, for the more subtle kind. The kind that says "Its not your fault you can't do it, its just that you are XYZ
But the overt kind still exists nicely, too, as does the "he's an asshole" while subconsciously knowing "I only think he's an asshole because he's XYZ"--but they're not aware of that part.

Or how about the parents who bitch: "That kid was only better than mine at school because he's Japanese"? 'Cuz they often ARE, but the parents never stop to think it's sometimes 'cuz they get SUPPORT in schooling from their parents...

Actually, Mike, I DID call Chris Rock stupid--I'm sick to death of standups who make their entire "schtick" about their race, their sex, gross jokes, hollering at the top of their lungs, etc., and the people who laugh at whatever comes out of their mouths, when if you repeat the joke to yourself, it's not funny at all. But I didn't mean CR was "stupid" in the "dumb" meaning; tho' I DID mean both ways where Out is concerned...

But thats the point.

One of the things I love about comedy is that you can say things that otherwise wouldn't be "PC".

CR can point out these things that hes pissed about, (Not only cause hes black), but because he makes them funny.

And the truth is, we need to laugh, and we need to think about them. We need to do something about them.

But if noone says anything, we never hear about it, we never are inspired to correct them.
