FDR did frak things up.

No joke, he did. The New Deal was the first stab at socialism.

Yes, every bit as much as the Great Depression was the first stab at capitalism.

God damn that FDR for leading us out of the Depression and getting elected to four terms of office. How DARE he.

Sure the "New Deal" was FDR's but I said "new deal", as in "You want to play again? Here's a new deal". Completely different meaning, See?.

Now you could have thought I was referring to FDR due to the fact that the Supreme Court did declare several of the agencies and projects he established to be unconstitutional, and because he tried to change the composition of the Court so he could pack it, but I never said anything about that, so that's obviously just supposition on your part.

I could have been talking about Pres. Clinton and is line-item veto legislation, which was also declared unconstitutional.

I could have been talking about Pres. But Bush and military tribunals.

Oh, about the maracas.

Quote:

Mr Chavez arrived on Wednesday and gave a speech at Moscow's People's Friendship University.

Characteristically, it lasted two and a half hours and included a tirade against the United States as well as a singalong, with Mr Chavez on maracas.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8248102.stm

While there for the singalong Pres Chavez also ordered half a billion dollars worth of tanks, plus other sundries such as submarines and armored personnel carriers, to fight off the Americans in Colombia; although Secty of State Clinton (who's husband was President when Plan Columbia originated) has promised that the Obama administration just wants a few troops there to aid Colombian forces in stopping drugs and terrorism.

Thats what they say this week...

The US has a credibility problem with its foreign policy. Its not just Chavez who doesn't want American troops anywhere near their borders. Besides that perhaps the money spent on troops in Columbia, would be better spent on reducing the number of addicts inside the US.

Are you sure that's not just sophistry?

You could, but then I'd have to ask you to tell us what your definition of "is" is, in the way you used it above.

Oh, sure - here you go bringing BUSH into it again. WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LET IT GO?! Hasn't the statute of limitations run out on Bush yet?

Sorry, Geezer, but you really do make it too easy.

And? Are you upset that Dubya wasn't invited to be one of the dancers?

Quote:

Does that mean the United States ISN'T the world's leading arms dealer? Have we been outsold by Russia? Half a billion bucks isn't really that much these days, where arms are concerned, is it? I mean, that gets you, what? A half-dozen F22 Raptors? A downpayment on a B2 Spirit bomber? The conning tower of an Ohio-class boomer?

Quote:

...to fight off the Americans in Colombia...

That sounds like supposition on your part.

Quote:

...although Secty of State Clinton (who's [sic] husband was President when Plan Columbia originated)...

Refresh our memory - who was President eight years ago today?
I mean, if you're going to place blame for things on who was in charge when they happened, then fair is fair, right? Wouldn't it be reasonable to say something unflattering about Laura Bush, like, "A visit to the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque by Laura Bush, whose husband was President during Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden's most successful years in terms of recruitment and attacks on America..."

Quote:

...has promised that the Obama administration just wants a few troops there to aid Colombian forces in stopping drugs and terrorism.

Now that, I have a bit of an issue with. I'm a bit tired of throwing money away on one more useless "war". The "War on (some) Drugs" is over; drugs won. The only thing we're doing now is enriching criminals, some of whom don't even work for Big Pharma.

PINKO! COMMIE! AMERICA-HATER! You just don't get it - treating addicts doesn't make for good ratings, unless those addicts then explode and make us go "Ooohhh! Aaaahhhh!". Americans are really only about treating problems if the treatment involves the use of explosives.

Gino - thing is, if they spend it HERE, they're good capitalists, whereas if they buy from Russia or China, they're godless despots.

At least that's how it seems to work in GeezerWorldâ„¢.

Well I guess Brazil is quite evil then...

one week they talk Obama into signing a cheque over to boost their oil exploration.. then the next week they announce they are buying their aircraft and submarines from the dastardly French

Mind you, I'm starting to think Canada should buy Russian...

more bang for the buck
