Well, from what I've read, I DON'T give you that much credit in this instance...what is the statement, exactly? That our President should keep his mouth shut and never utter an opinion?

Do you reeeely, reeely think Bush and every President under the sun hasn't said stuff like that at one time or another? Just 'cuz he said it where it could be taped, that makes him somehow...what?

It makes no sense. It's petty, puny and pathetic if you're making some statement about what he said...uh, especially as I believe it was you who went to such great lengths to say what you thought of the idiot yourself, didn't you?

That's what I mean by you guys killing me...Bush said so many incredibly illogical, unintelligent, downright STUPID things and his base went right on loving him, just as they did Reagan, who made an equal number of incomprehensible statements. There's even a book out called "Bushisms", they were so hillariously idiotic.

There are so many things to agree or disagree with Obama about, but hey, this one's a biggie, yes indeedee. So what exactly is your point?

This isn't an official comment or anything, right? It's just an off-the-cuff remark? Maybe a snippet of recorded conversation?

Just for you, Byte m'dear, and 'cuz I can type fast enough and used to do transcription for a living, here's the transcript. It was just prior to a news conference, an exchange between Obama and some reporters:

Quote:

Reporter: “Were your girls as ticked off as mine were that Kenyan…”

Obama: “I thought that was really inappropriate. It’s like, she’s getting an award, what’re you butting in for? I, I hear ‘ya. I agree with ‘ya.”

Then there’s a bit of back and forth and laughter I can’t make it out.

Obama: “The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person, she’s getting her award, what’s he doing up here? …he’s a jackass”

Someone yelped in laughter and the media people broke into loud laughter

Obama: “Aw, naw, I’m assumin’ all this stuff…where’s the pool?"

In the background they’re laughing like crazy and I hear one female voice saying “It’s all right sir".

Obama: “Come on, guys, cut the President some slack, I’ve got a lot of other stuff on my plate. ‘Cuz I remember last time there was the fly thing, that was the highlight of uh…”

Reporter: “No, that worked out well for you, you were a Ninja”

Obama:“…except for PETA”

That was followed by multiple voices and him laughing, couldn’t make out what the reporter said.

Really serious, dramatic stuff to go after the President about, eh wot?

Thanks for the transcription. :)

Yeah, that sounds like casual conversation, or at least a casual interview. Like for a magazine or something. I'm not going to attack someone for having a life as well as being President, not unless it's actually interfering with the rigors of office. He can take his daughters out for ice cream or take his wife to the theatre all he wants, within reason, of course.

I was just more curious about the context of the conversation. I wasn't entirely sure WHY Obama would be commenting on Kanye West, but I understand now.

Wasn't even a "casual interview", was just some banter between Obama and the press before the official news conference began. Duhhhh...idjits.

I am not into music, so I did not watch the awards show, so did not see this first hand. I knew there would be plenty of people who would upload this scene on YouTube, so went there.

I believe Obama felt Mr. West needed to know what he behaved like. Coming from the President, it may sink into Mr. West's head that his behavior was crude.

Mr. West finally apologized after much peer pressure, which makes the apology rather lame.
I guess he will get a lot of press and that appears to be what he was after.

I understand that Taylor gave a performance soon after this. What a trooper. When Beyonce won an award she invited Taylor Swift on to the stage so she could finish her speech. Mr. West should note their behavior if he plans to continue with his own career.

I thought it was a funny, off the cuff remark

I also think Kanye West acted like a jackass,

perhaps he should not be invited to award shows in the future.

Go Obama, in this anyway

So what's the problem? What's the issue here? That Obama called a jackass a jackass? Is there really anyone who's upset by this? Hell, if it would help Kanye get the fuck over himself, maybe Congress should pass a resolution specifically naming Kanye West a Jackass.

And yeah, if the President of the United States calls you out for being a jackass, maybe - just MAYBE - it will make you stop and think, "Hmmmm... I wonder if I was behaving like a jackass or something..."

DREAMTROVE

1. Nik, thanks for the transcript. Well done
2. Nik, chill. No president says stuff like this, Obama is a new level of cool. Again I feel like you reacted the way you did because it was Wulf who said it. We should never let this rule our communication. Wulf was right, that was awesome.
3. Wulf, you're right, that was awesome.
4. Kanye, you're a jackass. The president is right.
5. Mr. West has no future career.
6. I get that the whole thing is rigged, but no one expects the spanish inquijackass. Taylor Swift has managed to break that genre barrier where she is on every kids mp3 list, even those who don't admit it. This is extremely rare for a young star, creation or no. Damned irregular. I mean, the usual "Everyone has it" artist is like Johnny Cash, someone whose been around for a while. There are kids today who hate country who have Taylor Swift on their iPods, a primary reason not to let their friends see their iPods, and Malia and Sasha are two of them I suspect.
7. Yeah, well pulled together, and a nice video. Her videos work. They have a nice story consistency. They're not quite the tragedy that I would prefer: A real teen story never ends like a taylor swift video. This one is in part an answer to Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend (yeah, I get that it's orchestrated by the matrix crowd) but did anyone else notice some buffyesque themes?

8. Oh yeah, I think I can't mention this topic without a nice segue here, speaking of the award winning video, taylor swift, and buffy, I think that the whole situation calls for venetian princess to tear someone else a new one. I mean, she did a lovely job on Taylor (I hope people appreciate this as much as they do weird al) but tables turned (should we be manipulated by the victim mentality<-- self doubt) and it's time to give someone else a thrashing.

Ooh, and check out venetian princess on "womanizer."

I think it's now official: Obama is our coolest president, all politics aside.

DREAMTROVE

Once you get passed the whole concept of the creation industry, you can see the creators themselves as artists, even if they manipulate and monopolize the market.

I get that essentially Avril Lavigne's band writes all music that the MSM plays, and I already said as much. Sure, it's not Nightwish, but it's not without merit. Weird Al usually isn't either. That one might be an exception.

For people who actually pay any attention, what was that Avril video that had the pentagram on the stage. I'm thinking this was around Nov. 2002. I can't find the song.

My apologies to Taylor Swift, who apparently actually does write all of her own stuff. I guess that answers one question: How she reaches such a large audience.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:

At age 11, Swift made her first trip to Nashville hoping to obtain a record deal by distributing a demo tape of her singing with karaoke songs. She gave a copy to every label in town.[19] Swift faced rejection, not just from record labels, but also from her peers.[20] After Swift returned to Pennsylvania, she was asked to sing at the U.S. Open tennis tournament; her rendition of the national anthem received a lot of attention.[21] Swift started writing songs and playing 12-string guitar when she was 12. Swift began to regularly visit Nashville and wrote songs with local songwriters. By the time she was 14, her family decided to move to an outlying Nashville suburb.[22] When Swift was fifteen, she rejected RCA Records because the company wanted to keep her on a development deal.[23] Swift then performed at Nashville's songwriters' venue, The Bluebird Café, catching the attention of Scott Borchetta[24] who signed her to his newly-formed record label, Big Machine Records. She also became the youngest staff songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Tree publishing house at 14.[25]

Okay, I'm going to go with she has an IQ of 200? I don't have a better answer. I've known a lot of dedicated child-musicians, and none of them were at this level, and some were real damn good.

Oh, and I got the musical parents thing, but this doesn't automatically do it either.

Anyway, I incorrectly assumed that she was a creation of the machine.

Had nothing to do with Wulf, and he didn't initially post it. Had to do with the fact that it's "important" enough to post at all...tho' I understand every utterance of his that can be grabbed onto to make him look bad is inevitable. And no, I don't believe "no President says stuff like this", I just believe they say it where they're careful to make sure nobody hears them who can/will repeat it. In that respect, yes, Obama is cool to me, in that he's willing to speak off the cuff, even when it gets him in trouble. Perspective...tho' it doesn't always work...

I love the JibJab video--uh, it's "satire", you did know that? They satirize everything, right, left, middle, whatever subject. And they do it very well.

The Palin video was pathetic; it's BAD, mean-spirited satire IMO.

The Obama video? Means nothing. It's a minor comment by a President with a sense of humor who's willing to speak off the cuff. I imagine it was pulled mostly to avoid IT becoming yet another news bite played over and over and over so it becomes a topic the right can sink their teeth into and run with.

This thread? A waste of time. I won't be back.
