I'll reiterate on:
Sandman

Transmet
Watchmen.

And add:
The Walking Dead

I agree about The Walking Dead. Although, it pisses me off how short the comics actually are.

I usually just wait for the trades.

Me, too (the trades, that is). Stopped buying monthlies for the most part, about a decade ago.

I've been a fan of apocalyptic stories for a long time - never heard of this though, sounds interesting... btw, Wikipedia says: "A television series was announced to be in production on August 11, 2009."

"trades" = "compilations?"

Preacher - is that by any chance based on Joe R. Lansdale's character? I can remember reading some short stories by him that involved an evil preacher...

I'm really looking forward to the Walking Dead series. Though, I have to laugh at Darabont's fondness for a certain type of location, which will surely feature prominently in the series.

Hope the Preacher movie comes together this time. I have, but haven't yet read, the script they had a few years ago for the aborted version of the movie that was to have starred James Marsden, written by the comic's creator Garth Ennis. Now I believe it's in the hands of John August and Sam Mendes.

Never much did comic books, although I was rather fond of Drew Hayes work on Poison Elves - but sadly he took a dirt nap a while back.

Helpful tip: taking the girlfriend the 'hero' is about to kill ANYWAY hostage is a bad idea.

Also not too fond of most webcomics, since the quality tends to fall off so very quickly, but Girl Genius is pretty solid stuff, especially since imma ISTP gearhead enough to really appreciate the thing.

As abysmal as the offerings from conventional media have been, as of late I've been checking out less popular anime for entertainment, some of which has been surprisingly good, and a few (Elfen Lied, Hell Girl, Scrapped Princess) delve into many of the issues close at heart to me.

Wulf, thanks for the list. I haven't gotten into comics, graphic novels, but as I write and also draw, it occurs to me as something I could do, but I don't want to get into it until I see what's out there.

Re: anime,
I've found that in any genre, you have to start with the best. There's some shock to the system from the change of medium, but it's lessened by the quality of the content. If you watch the "best done" anime, like Hayao Miyazaki, you get used to anime, and then you can watch other good less conventional stuff without that rejection.

Also, From firefly, I can definitely easily recommend Cowboy Bebop to anyone here.

Also, I was curious about web comics. Anyone have any ideas?

I read a bunch of webcomics. Some of them are half-decent. A few 'cause they're pretty, most 'cause I like the story, and some that I think are funny.

About the only one that I think I can universally recommend to this crowd that doesn't involve the adventures of Agatha Heterodyne is Sluggy Freelance. Sci-Fi supernatural dramady, with a lot of parody and reference elements. But watch out, the archives are huge because it's updated like every day for... ten years I think?

I'm almost positive Frem would enjoy the character of Bun-Bun. And considering the ISTP-ness, quite possibly Riff.

The Walking Dead is a great series. If it's coming to television, it's gonna have to be HBO or Showtime. It's just so graphic.

Strangers in Paradise is pretty sweet.

I also like Red Sonja, and Conan the Barbarian.

While it's not something that would appeal to everyone, Miss Byte - I would recommend Angel Moxie to you, I think it'd appeal greatly to your sense of humor given I suspect it's a lot like mine.

I can indeed see you as Tristan Stallings.
