Obama book - no AP fact checkers
Hillary book - no AP fact checkers (maybe some fat checkers though)
Biden book - no AP fact checkers...that's the real scary one!! Retard Joe Biden wrote a book?? And BTW Joe, how's that Secret Service detail working out for ya lately? Like I said before, Wulf, there have been myriad discussions and debates in threads much longer that this one, with intense feelings and the usual number of snarks, etc. Does that mean everyone's "freaking out" about every topic? I don't think so. Because this thread is about Palin is no indication anyone's freaking out--actually, nothing I've SEEN is. I've seen the usual snarking of political enemies, and actually I saw a LOT more freaking out about Obama, Clinton, Dumbya, Cheney (tho' that IS a good thing to freak out about!), you name it. I haven't heard one single person talk about fearing her, except above (and there a good point was made).

We have LOTS of political debates that get heated. Does that mean that everyone fear the other party or parties? Do long, intense discussions have to mean there's fear involved, or can it just be heated disagreement?

Your and others' theory about this just doesn't hold water. Can't stop you from mistaking disgust and disdain for "freaking out", but that doesn't make it true.

DT, again, are you teasing me? You mean you can't even conceive that intelligent people might feel negative about her because she's lied, cheated and shown no grasp of policy? Wow...that's weird! I gave you more credit than that. How can you be blind to all the stuff she's said and done, and convinced people are "envious" of her? Eeep! As to fear, I guarantee I have absolutely none of her; I'm convinced she'll fall by the wayside in time, as she's not sensible enough to attract any but her base. It may take a while, but you wait and see. I only fear those who actually threaten me, and I certainly don't see her as a threat...nor does my husband, nor Choey, or anyone I know.

Then again, we DID get Dumbya...

Good point. Forgot one: Bill Clinton, well known for lying his ass off, wrote a book in which he lied his ass off. I don't remember anyone saying anything.

Remember this man started his govt. by killing upwards of 200 american citizens, and then said of the charred corpses after committing the greatest peacetime non-political mass homocide in world history said "we have reason to believe that these children were being abused." Nice justification for killing them. Also untrue, but that's beside the point. He would then go on to kill ten million more people. Didn't happen to mention any of that in his book. That's one of the reasons I have "knowing when to walk away" as one of my major criteria.

There are lots and lots of specific questions regarding Obama on FactCheck. But they only list one question and one resource that a quick search can find relating to his book:

I'm quite willing to accept that FactCheck has a bias toward liberals, but anyone can fact check a book...why doesn't/hasn't someone check/checked Clinton/Obama's books besides them, and does that make the lies in her book any less valid? Just thinkin'...

The Republicans have offered alternative health care, stimulas, and war plans.

When? WHEN have they offered these "plans"? John "Boner" Boehner said IN APRIL that the Republicans would present their healthcare plan "within days". He should have mentioned it would be more like 180 days. And what a plan it was, huh? For a mere $61 billion more than we currently pay, the Republican "plan" would cover 3 million FEWER people. That is just AWESOME "planning".

What was their "stimulas" plan? Their entire history of stimulus plans consists of handing money to the rich. Look at not just what they PLANNED, but what was actually DONE under Bush. Over $800,000,000,000 handed out - GIVEN - to Wall Street with no strings attached, no questions asked. It should be noted that while this was going on, Palin's running mate was claiming that there was no problem. And then "suspending" his campaign to deal with the problem that wasn't there.

What was your "war plan"? Your guys already had eight years to figure that one out, and Bush dithered them away without any kind of solid footing in Afghanistan. In fact, he came right out and said that it wasn't going to be his problem, because he was going to hand it off to his successor to deal with. Again, that's some truly visionary "planning".

Quote:

In fact to only bi-partisan plans are the Republican ones.

Isn't that an oxymoron? I can as easily say "the only bipartisan plans are the Democrats' plans" and be at least as correct as you are in your claims.

Quote:

"You ARE... nothing." Well, there you go. Thats the argument. You see me, Republicans, anyone who disagrees as "nothing". Its personal, emotional, and irrational and completely justifies anything you might say or do.

Ah, much as you've always seen anyone who disagrees with your views as America-hating terrorists. Right? That way, it completely justifies anything you might say or do.

Quote:

Thats why its ok to be sexist toward Palin and racist towards black Republicans (and Democrats) who disagree with you.

Again I ask: Can you show me WHERE and HOW I was "sexist" towards Palin, or "racist" against black people who disagree with me? I mean, not that you're "making personal attacks" on me or anything, but you just did with that base accusation, which you've never once been able to provide a scintilla of evidence for.

Quote:

"You Lie!" was really just bad timing. He should have waited a week.

Or an hour, for one of your posts.

Quote:

I don't post every day. I work for a living. Next week a vacation. Never the less over the last few years I have engaged in numerous substantial debates most of which end the same way (I win, names get called).

I've noticed you seem to not post particularly on days when I've just handed you your ass. For a "lawyer", you have a very loose relationship with "facts" or "truth". You've never won any debate that I've witnessed, but you HAVE called lots of names.

Quote:

Trillion is a big number, Obama used it more then anybody else. He quadrupled the debt in the first hundred days...to the tune of trillions.

Once again, I must say, "You LIE." Bush almost DOUBLED the debt. That's the national debt, which under Dubya went from $5.6 trillion to over $10.5 trillion. There's a big "debt clock" devoted to it; they had to add another digit to it under Bush's regime, because he increased the national debt to over $10,000,000,000,000. As of September 30, 2009, it stands at just over $11.9 trillion. That means that Bush ratcheted the debt up by almost five trillion dollars. Obama has added less than two trillion to that number. I hope you're better at math than you are at English, but so far it doesn't look that way.

Quote:

I agree, it was bad in 1983. I'm reading the Reagan diaries, he was fighting a huge battle in 1981 and 1982 to get his economic reforms in place. The difference is by 1983 faith in our system had been restored, people were working again, new innovations and industries were in the works, a new age of prosperity was in place. People had more money, they were using it to start businesses, go to school, consume, create, and innovate. None of that energy is present in the current economic climate. Mostly its folks praying their job isn't next.

So again, must I point out that you seem willing to give Reagan (a Republican) more than three times as much time as you'll afford Obama (a Democrat). Is it because of their political parties, or because you're a racist and Obama is a black man?

You point out that Reagan was "fighting a huge battle to get his reforms in place", and you seem to say that completely un-ironically. How is that possible? Is Obama NOT fighting to get his reforms in place? Have the Republicans and tea-baggers NOT fought him tooth and nail at every turn and step?

Quote:

The Republicans offered a stimulas package. It cost about a quarter of Obama's and was comprised mostly of tax incentives and infrastructure improvements. The Republicans offered a health plan, it focused on tax incentives, easing restrictions on states to allow for a more diverse marketplace for insurance and drugs, and easing restriction on small businesses to allow for pooled resources...and tort reform. I don't think anybody doubts that Republicans would have been closely involved with responding to the Afgan troop requests. I suspect given similar conditions McCain would have gotten the troop request in August and responded...in August.

That's cute, trying to guess what McCain would have done. Al Gore wouldn't have gotten us attacked on 9/11, or invaded Iraq in a futile attempt to show his daddy how bad-ass he was. Gee that's fun! Let's keep playing revisionist history!

As for tort reform - I thought conservatives were all about taking responsibility for your own actions. Now you want to limit your liabilities for your fuckups? You want to place payout limits, so you can screw up and kill people and have it NOT cost you more than a grand or so? Really?

What's the total percentage of healthcare expenditures that goes to paying for malpractice payouts and lawsuits? You don't have to look it up; I've got the figures. It's less than one percent. Your beloved and vaunted tort reform would cut LESS THAN ONE PERCENT from healthcare costs. Kudos to you - you Republicans have done it again. You've come late to the party, and have brought nothing of value with you.

Quote:

The Republicans would not have spent valuable time and resources in a pissing match with FOX (or MSNBC). They would not have wanted to bring Gitmo terrorist to middle America or wanted a show trial for KSM in New York. Alternative...Gitmo and military tribunals (although I think Bush should have got off his ass and gotten those trials done, after all its not inventing the wheel, they've been done before).

Again, YOU LIE. Both of those claims are demonstrably, categorically false, and have been extensively documented as such. Hell, even Dana Pirino came right out and admitted that the Bush Administration went after MSNBC specifically.

And where was Zacarias Moussaoui tried? Right here in the good ol' U.S. of A., that's where. And where is he imprisoned? Why, right in the very HEART of middle America, in Florence, Colorado, that's where.

Do you ever get TIRED of being so wrong for so long?

And what's the problem with trying criminals in American courts of law, who commit their crimes on American soil? Do you have so little faith in the Constitution and your justice department, or so much fear of two-bit punk-ass common criminals, that you don't think our great nation can survive putting someone who is no better than a street hood on trial in this country? Do you REALLY think that the military should be in charge of who gets tried in this country, and how?

I heard Rudy Giuliani claim that we wouldn't try the people who attacked Pearl Harbor in a criminal court, and my first thought was, "Well, DUH, you idiot. We were attacked by the JAPANESE NAVY!" Tell me, "Hero", what nation's military attacked us on September Eleventh? I know you think it's an act of war, but what nation was it that attacked us? Iraq? Afghanistan? Saudi Arabia? Egypt?

Quote:

'You are nothing' is you opinion of me and Republicans and Sarah Palin. Thats why you can't win the argument. You've forgotten there are two teams on the field (I know, I see the Browns do the same thing from my plush club-level seats). You are like a guy who thinks he a champion poker player because he does real good playing the computer.

I've already won. You've been reduced to citing "facts" that you pulled out of thin air, and worse, they're EASILY proven to be lies. You're the guy who just woke up after a long night of drinking, realized he was on second base, and thinks he actually hit a double. You don't even realize the game was two days ago.

It's interesting. Everyone seems to agree on this point. I can't follow the others, except hating Rudy and distrusting Romney. I was appalled by the Clintons.

But re:Palin, it's not her, you're right, it's what she represents: The successful non-feminist female who didn't sleep her way up to the top, who is just a mom married to a fisherman, and yet can make it because she's not as dumb as people think, or as she plays. She wasn't picked out of total obscurity, she was picked out of being the governor of Alaska.

I posted this earlier re: Jesse Jackon

Everyone remembers I'm sure Jesse's comment about wanting to castrate Obama. Deep down, that's the same damn thing: Obama is not a civil rights advocate. He's not black power, he never knew MLK, and probably didn't care. He's a law professor, and social mover and shaker, who made it in a white man's world without every playing the race card. Just like Colin Power and Condi Rice. People like Jackson made their whole lives about "sticking it to the man" "overthrowing white power" and "bringing justice for the black man." It really ticked Jackson off that a guy who happened to be black but didn't give a damn about his private little war could just sail right past him, and just become the man, moving up the same way as everyone else, completely ignoring his being black.

Guys, this isn't about gender issues or race issues, it's about politics. The people who succeed are the people who play the game, and if you play it well, it will take about 20 seconds for everyone in the room to forget what group or background you come from. Everyone remember the Bush Whitehouse's stance on the Mexican invasion? Well, wasn't it just a little paradoxical that his closest personal advisor, whitehouse council and attorney general was a Mexican-American? Did anyone catch how exactly the Gonzalez family came to America? Oh yeah, they snuck across the border illegally, and sought work in construction. Did anyone care? No. No one cared. No matter how much fuss there was about the related wedge issue, no one on either side of the aisle blinked an eye even once at this. People cared about his qualifications and his policies and ultimately his judgment and forthrightness, and decided that Gonzalez was just untrustworthy, and was much pushed to step down. It took some pushing. But when these troubles arose, no one on either side of the aisle even made a crack about mexicans or illegal immigrants. No one cared.

Moral? Don't lead a revolution to get justice for your oppressed minority, just do the damn job.

And yes, sure, I understand there are a lot of feminists who fought this fight for years already. I'm sorry for your wasted effort, but we can all quit today, and move on: No one likes confrontation. Confrontational people don't win allies. Those born female are among the oppressed minority of 3-4 billion. It's a non-issue until you make it one, and when you do, you lose.

Oh, and a couple words about previous female candidates who didn't lose because they were women:

Geraldine Ferraro is the representative from the Klan. Enough said.

Carol Moseley Braun is the state senator from the state of embezzlement

Hillary Clinton is the Senator from Hell, and also Homocide, drug trafficking and multiple counts of felony financial fraud.

So, I guess MLK was right: These people are judged by the content of their characters.

Okay, if you're going to keep using the word, PLEASE learn to spell it correctly, especially if you're going to capitalize it to show how important it is to you! It's "STIMULUS". That's not a "personal attack", any more than you saying that all Democrats "hate trees" is a personal attack. It's an observation; if you're going to argue the merits of a thing, you should probably know how to spell it.

The economic stimulus plan put forth by the Obama administration is larger, but probably not large ENOUGH (according to Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman), and it included tax cuts and block grants for infrastructure projects. I guess that means you support it, then.

That wasn't a "war plan" - that was a request for more troops. By the way, how many times was Bush asked for more troops for Afghanistan? How many times did he turn those requests down flat, saying that those troops were needed in Iraq? For more than SEVEN YEARS, he "dithered" on Afghanistan, refusing to follow through on any commitment there while American soldiers died as a result of his indecisiveness. He made no concerted effort to get Bin Laden, even when he had every chance. He turned down requests and demands for more troops when the situation was rapidly deteriorating. And yet you and other Republicans supported him at every turn, ONLY because he was a Republican, and for no other reason than that. You can't really mix your personal with your politics much more than that. As you've said yourself, even when you don't like the Republican, you'll vote for them and support them, and even when you DO like the Democrat, you won't support them or vote for them. If that's not mixing your personal feelings with your politics, then what the hell is?

By the way, that call for more troops for Afghanistan from General McChrystal? It is NOT widely supported, except by people who want to remain in a constant state of war in Afghanistan. Many policy experts, even the ones with boots on the ground in Afghanistan, have called for a U.S. pull-out from the region, since we're having a deleterious effect on the stability of the region. In Afghanistan, we're about where we were in Vietnam when Westmoreland asked for more troops even after it was widely agreed inside the Pentagon that the war could never be won, no matter how many troops were sent there.

Well, gorsh, I *hope* you're not "making personal attacks" with snippy comments like that. I guess liberalism CAN have a strong influence on the weak-minded, since arguing against it seems to have completely fried your tiny little brain.

For the record, when you claim you "don't make personal attacks" and then spew your usual "all liberals are..." arguments? Yeah, that's about as non-personal as Wulfie telling his N-word jokes and then saying, "Uhhhh... no offense if you're black." I could just as easily say that the 9/11 attacks were nothing personal against any of the workers in the twin towers. Would it make the attacks any less horrific for the families of those who died in them?

No, it really is about her. It's about her as our President that a lot of people can't stand. The president really should be smarter than me.

"Read her book?" I'm as likely to get the truth from her book as you were from the Reagan Diaries.

"What about Her Policies?" They're whatever the polls or her handlers tell her they should be. Family, less taxes, less government... Policies are easy. Knowing what magazines she reads, that one's hard for her.

Reps can do better - you guys have so much gunk on your side... maybe it's politics in general? How we fix that? We give it so much attention that only attention whores want to do it?

Hello,

I have thought a lot about Palin, and the best way for me to convey my feelings about Palin is to commit a Wulfism. So Wulf, if you're reading this, then know that this bud's for you.

Palin tries to look like Kira Nerys, but comes off as the Duras sister B'Etor.

I love Kira Nerys. In the right universe, I'd vote for her. Smart, sexy, and holds to conservative values. Also honest and strong. Put her on the Republican Star Trek Ticket, and I'll vote. Twice, if the Ferengi can wrangle a way. ;-)

B'Etor is sexy. She comes off as relatively uninformed, and is guided by others in what to say and do. Even so, she frequently fubs up a detail and makes her camp look a bit foolish. You get the impression that if she had supreme power, she'd do something inappropriate with it.

I don't know who the Kira Nerys is of American Politics. I don't think it's Clinton, who reminds me more of Janeway. Some diplomatic skills there, but I wouldn't want her steering the ship.

When we get a female president, I hope she's fantastic. Women deserve a good representative for their country and their gender at the top of things. A sub-par representative would simply harm the women's movement.

So, Tony, Nicole Kidman for President?
Sure she's australian, but she was born on a layover in Hawaii, and has spent a total of 14 years here, not contiguously, but enough to make her just squeak by the criteria. Plus she's mad hot.

Actually, I disagree, I think she's aiming for B'Etor, but comes off more Kira. The whole red an black thing is very movie villain. Or perhaps she's aiming for Ayran Sun, but comes off all Chiana.

Oh, and by the way...

Those "tree-hating Democrats"? Ummmmm, yeah...

Senator Mark Begich just came out with some interesting footnotes to the healthcare reform bill and Sarah Mooselini's li'l book. Seems if you take that 1900-page healthcare bill and set the font style and size to match Sarah's book, the bill comes in at 413 pages - about 3 pages LESS than "Going Rogue".

And John "Boner" Boehner (he's from your 'neck of the woods, isn't he, "Hero"?), he of the neon orange year-round spray-on tan and the ultra-patriotic red white and blue eyes - he says the healthcare bill should have pictures so he can read it.

But thanks for playing. ;)

I'm betting you never read the Reagan Diaries either.

It goes day by day, says what he did, who he met with, anything that happened, and what he thought about it. Not much room for lies and I don't think anyone has disputed anything in the book. Its usually just a few lines every day talking about what happened and maybe a line about what he thought, all written before he went to bed.

Please, the Duras sisters are the Patty and Selma of Star Trek.

I met Janeway when her husband was running for office. Nice lady.

Last year I had the opportunity to prosecute a certain red-headed Doctor, but I did not authorize the charge since there was not sufficient evidence. That would have been so cool. Anyway...if you see an annoying 16 year-old acting ensign/genius walking around with a black eye, don't be surprised if he tells you "he fell down" or "he ran into a door"...and it makes me wonder the REAL reason we had a substitute Doctor for a season or so...I'm just sayin.

Hello,

I think B'Etor was one of the three most attractive female Klingons we saw in Trek history. The others were the mother of Worf's child, and Quark's ex-wife.

But she was a wooden-headed simpleton manipulated by her betters.

Kira, despite being a conservative minded individual, managed to cross the aisle on several occasions. Her one flaw was her devotion to religion that exceeded all other devotions, although I think her experiences helped her to overcome that to some degree and be a more effective and free-willed leader.

I'm sure that Mrs. Columbo is a fine lady. Horrible Captain, though. I gritted my teeth through most of Voyager. I often wished that Trek could have found a better-written female Captain than Janeway. Someone more inspiring. Even the briefly seen Captain of the USS Enterprise-C had a better presence and character than Janeway- and she didn't live through the entire episode.

Yes, I'm unkind when it comes to Reagan. He hurt an awful lot of innocent people, and I don't mind that he died miserably. I don't believe in gods, but there are times I *wish* I did, because I'd want Reagan to meet a god who was vengeful beyond all imagining.

I had a thought. Some seem to need to believe those of us who don't like Palin are "afraid" of her or envious or something.

So. I have equal disdain for O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Malkin, Beck, and numerous Congresspeople who have made absurd, ridiculous statements. Does that mean I'm afraid of all of them? Those people aren't in the news as much, is the only difference I can think of. I don't believe those people have any more chance of running this country than Palin does, so I don't "fear" them any more than I do her.

There are candidates for 2010 and 2012 whom I have no doubt I will be disdainful of and disgusted by once they start campaigning, does that mean I'll be afraid of them, too?

I just can't figure out why the right needs so badly to believe those of us who don't like her are afraid of her...it doesn't compute.

On the other hand, I was definitely afraid of Bush, as was my husband...and what happened was far worse than our worst fears. George HW, however, we weren't afraid of, nor any of the other Republican candidates I can think of.

So what gives? I'd really like to know why this mindset that we're afraid of Palin. Is it just because that's the pap ClusterFox and its ilk put forth, or is there some other reason for it?

Why the fear?

Because that's how we've programmed Republicans to think! They only know and respond to fear. So we give them something to fear. And if you don't like something, then you must be afraid of it, cuz that's how we'd feel. We fear what we don't know!

Kira Nerys is one of my all-time favorite SF females. I take exception to her being portrayed as being right-wing and/or Conservative, though. She has as much place on a Republican Star Trek Ticket as a Ferengi has on a Truth Finding Committee. I'm confused. No wait, I think maybe you're confused. Kira is as liberal as it gets! Her whole life has been in the service of others; you know, not the Republican way of trying to get as wealthy as you can, as fast as you can, going over as many backs as you can. She helps the sick and the wounded; you know, not the Republican way of "Fuck you if you can't afford health-care!" kinda way. She believes in something greater than her own wallet.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how GOP folks can look at historical (or fictional) characters who exemplify the good in man, and then somehow appropriate said goodness as if it were their own. Sigh.
