I am against having Islamic marriages, Islamic clerics policing communities or Islamic courts operating in the United States. This reason is why in my opinion it's important that so many American Muslims are not so religious. The more religious they are, the more difficult the problem becomes.

The poll mentioned here could very well be the truth, and I don't doubt the numbers you cite, but I'm curious about two things, 1) how the question was phrased to the poll-takers, and 2) whether this could merely be a case of syntax and vernacular misunderstanding. After all, many Americans identify themselves as AFRICAN-Americans, but that doesn't necessarily mean they consider themselves "Africans first."
