I've been reading all these articles and blogs saying that if this health care reform bill doesn't pass we'll have nothing for decades and decades. Not even a chance. So we'll sink into a mire of expensive insurance and higher costs and tons of people will have no coverage and on and on with the other well-documented evils of the status quo. So we absolutely MUST get the present bill through! No matter if it's not perfect - grab it and RUN!

What the hell? Really, I feel much like I did when W's folk were waving their arms and yelling about mushroom clouds. It's ridiculous.

I no longer have any faith in our government. It's not govt, it's an arm of the stock market. The main thing that got me on Obama's side was how he said he'd have no lobbyists on his campaign. That's the real danger to the "American way of life" - not the evil Muslims or whatnot. It's big business running every damned thing.

But I guess OBama wasn't too serious about that.

My comfort is, soon we'll have an updated FFF site and I'll be able to put Wulf on my ignore list. I won't have to waste time scrolling past his nuttiness. (Or all the replies to it... you folks really think he can hear you?)

Obama - come on dude, time to bring it. He had a prime opportunity to be a Leader with Health Care and it's as if he just delegated and deferred everything and stepped back into the shadows. I know he's capable of a lot more.

We differ in that I think Brown is a whole lot worse than most of what we have, but that will show itself in time, if he ever even does anything to bring attention to himself. The only reason he's getting attention NOW is the situation. He’s a NUMBER, not a person, at this point. But yes, Obama blew it big time; personally I think he was so bent on that “bipartisan” shit, he let himself and Congress get backed into a corner from which there was no escaping.

A lot of the rest of this is just snarking back and forth…what a waste! Sig, thanks for bringing it back to topic. And Gino, too. Gino, I agree there was more to it than the pundits are saying, but my choice is:

1. Bad campaign by Coakley and dems, complacency.
2. Mass. having their own healthcare.
3. No public option, yet a mandate.
4. A “message” to Congress (which I think is particularly stupid)
5. Brown making himself look moderate and hiding just how conservative he is.
6. Frustration with all the things wrong right now.
7. Apathy.

Well said, right on the money, and yes, I don’t get it either. You’d think after the first few months of the Repubs being the party of no and mucking up the healthcare bill, saying it would be his Waterloo, all the while being up front that they wouldn’t vote for it no matter what, that he’d have caught on. I can’t figure it out, unless he’s so stubborn there’s no hope. Bipartisanship isn’t going to happen. Period.

I don't think voting back and forth would do any good. It takes a couple of years each time to do it, and a lot of novices could well be worse than what we have now. Besides, if everyone did that, it would mean Republicans get vast majority, then Dems do, back and forth. I don't see it working.

Whew. Caught up. But I'm wondering; why did nobody respond to my question as to whether anyone really KNOWS anything about Brown? I don't think anyone really does...

Niki: How do you think Brown won? BECAUSE nobody really knows much about him, that's how! That's not generally a good sign in a candidate, from what I've seen.

I did catch a little snippet of a coversation with him yesterday morning, though, in which he may give pause to those who supported him and those here who are celebrating his impending killing of health care reform.

He was saying that he DOES believe we need a basic health plan that covers every citizen, that that's something we should be working on, and that he's looking forward to helping bring it about.

'Course, it should also be noted that people in Massachusetts don't seem too eager to give back their healthcare plan. It's been mentioned that the reason he won was that he was seen as being against the national plan because it's not nearly as robust as what Massachusetts already has in place, and that it would be a step backward for them!
