China hits back at US over Taiwan weapons sale
Defensive missiles aboard a frigate - 26/01/2010
The US has a treaty obligation to help towards Taiwan's defence

China has announced a series of moves against the US in retaliation for a proposed weapons sale to Taiwan worth $6.4bn (£4bn).

Beijing said it would suspend military exchanges with the US, impose sanctions on companies selling arms, and review co-operation on major issues.

Ties are already strained by rows over trade and internet censorship.

This is quite interesting, how pissed off is China ? how much sack does the US still have ? Will US companys become former US companys in order to survive ?

This could very well hamper the US economic recovery

Boeing (BA) CEO Jim McNerney is eager to move the company to China. Whether moving Boeing to China means shifting its headquarters from Chicago to Beijing is up in the air. But Boeing already has $600 million in supplier partnerships with China -- such as a deal with Shenyang Aircraft Corporation to build an assembly for the 787's vertical fin. And Stan Sorscher, who spent 20 years at Boeing before taking a post at the Society of Professional Engineers in Aerospace (SPEEA) in 2000, told me that engineers he spoke with believe that McNerney is hooked on the idea of shifting more of Boeing's aircraft development to China.

GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

Looks to me like the pro forma protest China issues any time the U.S. has any dealings with the Taiwanese government. They'll keep restrictions in place for a couple of months, and then quietly lift them.

or simply move the contracts to the equally qualified European and Japanese companys whom I am sure would love to get them.

Or the companys themselves will do something to gain exclusions to the policy,

A good excuse to trash contracts written a few years ago to gain more attractive terms today

and why not, the US has done similar policy with foreign companys doing work in Cuba for years. Seems like a good way to get what you want.

I particularly liked the article about Boeing moving to China.... interesting idea
