The timing of all this still has me giggling quietly. At least the priest apologized for his remark:
Quote:

The pope's personal preacher apologized Sunday for comparing fury over sexual abuse within the church to anti-Semitism.

"If, against my intention, I've hurt the Jewish people's feelings and those of the victims of child abuse, I'm truly sorry and ask forgiveness," the Rev. Raniero Cantalamessa said in an interview published in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

He emphasized that Pope Benedict XVI "not only did not inspire" the sermon that contained the comparison, but also "like everyone else, heard my words for the first time during the liturgy."

There was no official statement on the apology issued by the Vatican on Sunday. Vatican official did not immediately return calls from CNN.

They're still spinning and stonewalling, tho';
Quote:

Top Catholic clerics from France and Britain expressed shame, anger and regret Friday over a widening abuse scandal in the church that has reached Pope Benedict XVI's doorstep.

At the same time, the Vatican and Benedict's former German diocese strongly denied a newspaper report that said the pope was aware that a priest later convicted of molesting boys was returning to pastoral work.

They said the pope, then archbishop in Munich, Germany, had no knowledge of the decision to return the priest to resume his duties.

The archdiocese "rejects any other version of events as mere speculation," the Vatican said.

And get this one:
Quote:

In a rare move, a senior cardinal spoke before the pope's Easter Mass address at the Vatican on Sunday, saying the pontiff maintains the support of Catholics around the world "who do not let themselves be influenced by the gossip."

"Today, with you are the cardinals from the Roman Curia, all the bishops and priests around the world," said Cardinal Angelo Sodano, former Vatican secretary of state and the dean of the College of Cardinals.

Speaking at the beginning of the Easter Sunday ceremony, Sodano did not specifically mention the sexual abuse scandal that has engulfed the Catholic Church in recent months.

But his remarks clearly referred to those who have criticized Catholic leaders, including Pope Benedict XVI himself, for not having done much more during his years as a top official .

Sodano said the pope has the support of those who work in schools, hospitals, and care centers, including 400,000 priests.

"Also with you are the faithful who do not let themselves be influenced by gossip," Sodano said in Italian, using the word "chiacchiericcio," which means chatter or gossip. "May the Lord continue to sustain your mission at the service of the church in the world."

GOSSIP?! GOSSIP?!? My gawd; the scariest part is there are those out there who DO believe it's "gossip" and will ignore it in favor of their "infallable religion".

Their comeuppance is comin, believe it.

On a brighter note though, I am getting some giggles today - despite being in serious pain and blasted half outta my mind on meds for it, I refused to stand down and let Wendy do the site three rounds last night, cause I had a mission.

That mission ?
Hiding plastic easter eggs fulla candy near the units of folks who I know have kids, heh heh heh.

Bear in mind that we currently have a freakin explosion of bunnies who are not really afraid of humans, and they're hoppin around everwhere, which is eventually gonna annoy folks when their gardens start getting eaten...

But for today, plethora of hopping bunnies and a whole bunch of kids finding them eggs and bouncing with joy ?

Man, there's damn few things in this world that can bring a real smile to my face, but that's certainly a one of em!

Not to mention being blitzed on pain meds and planning to raid the clearance priced candy tomorrow, heh heh heh.

Not all in this world is ugly.

Aw-RIGHT! That's such a neat thing to have done (they know about it, I assume, as you wouldn't want rotten eggs laying around!). You're good folk!

Whatever bring a smile to your face is more than worth it--enjoy for however long it lasts (and I hope the pain goes away soonest!)

The first thing that caught my eye when I brought up internet was the Pope's Easter message. His prayers for those enduring hardship at this time did not include the pedophile victims of Catholic priests.

A sad omission. I get the impression that those close to the Pope are enabling him instead of pressing him to open a dialogue. To me this only increases my gut feeling there is guilt here that the Pope is hiding from.

And Frem, what a wonderful Easter message from you. One thing I admire most in people are efforts, as you wrote in your post, to put smiles on other's faces. You certainly put one on mine today.

Yeah, I saw the news reports on that, wasn't surprised. I don't know if it's advisors or just sheer stubbornness and survival instinct, but I noted there was no mention whatsoever. Not that I would ever be caught dead LISTENING to a pope, I get my news mostly off the internet, TV and some newspapers.

I'm not at all sure, tho', that pressing him to open a dialog would have any effect--or even that any would try it. He's the ultimate dictator, no strings attached, and by the time people become pope's, I'm pretty sure their mentality is rather fixed in cement. I'm sure he feels he's done no wrong, and as some news reports noted, the church sees all this as "gossip" and beneath them.

People have been leaving the church for a long time now...this can only hasten that exodus. At least I hope so. Those who aren't so cowed by religion that they daren't have a thought of their own MUST at least consider the fact that some wrongs have been done...maybe that leads to some questioning with some of them. I would dream of hoping "all", I've seen enough of religion to know better.

It just flat out disgusts me that religions are able to get away with this shit, while somone who robs a liquor store is tossed in jail and forgotten! The hypocrisy is almost too much to handle.

Part of me wishes one of those abused (who are now middle-aged and older) would rise up and "smite" the guy, but I wouldn't want THEIR lives to be shattered any more than they have been.

The lowest thing on earth is someone who sexually abuses a child--after that physical abuse of a child and after that abuse of any form of an animal. Yet the supposed "holiest" people in the world have been found guilty of the (in my opinion) ultimate sin...and what's happening by way of reckoning?? Nada.

Religion truly IS the opiate of the masses, leaving no room for rational thought...

Not being a Catholic, I don't have a complete understanding of this religion. My impression is the Pope is the Catholic Church. So any stain placed on the Pope is an attack on the Church. And that can't be tolerated.

Bishops had apologies and prayers for the victims in their sermons today, but not the Pope. I simply am at lost to understand his neglect accept for zero tolerance I mentioned above.

Oh! And from a nonchristian, Happy Easter.

ATTENTION ALL

Niki and I have come to an impasse

I do not want to talk to her on this board

I do not want her jumping into my conversations with other people

I do not want her yapping about me any more

She seem incapable of the reasonable request of simply leaving me alone, so I unfortunately have to respond by well... responding to ALL of her posts.

You see our disagreement stems on the lines that I feel folk who engage in mass murder deserve to see some kind of justice

as well as a citizen of a country has some responsibility concerning the actions of their country...

to that end here is some of the victims Niki seems to feel does not deserve any justice

Sorry for the inconvenience, Please Return to your day
