I don't want to post with Niki anymore,

I quit responding to her, ignored her for a while

then Noticed she feels the need to run me down in other threads.

Asked her not to, told her I don't want anything to do with her anymore... to no result

Now StoryMark has suggested I leave this board, so

Please give me your thoughts...

Perhaps I should just leave the board so I don't have to put up with her anymore...

almost did that once already

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

If you don't want to put up with me anymore, Gino, just ignore me. You said you wanted a restraining order against me; sadly, you can't get those on the internet, and both logging off and coming back later and scrolling past my posts were suggested, but you rejected them.

Nobody asked you to leave. I certainly didn't. I'm sad for you, but you're most welcome here as far as I'm concerned. And Story responded to your remark that I was a "typical American, won't go home when you ask them to" by remarking “Oh, so you being a civilized Canadian means.... if we ask YOU to leave, you will?” Your reply was “Go ahead, have a vote or something”. I repeat: nobody asked you to leave.

Although maybe logging off and taking some time to have a cup of coffee or something would be helpful in realizing that I mean you no harm, nor does anyone else here (I believe). It’s just a free internet, and we can respond to anyone we want to, and say anything we want to. Putting up new threads to whine about it and threatening to dog my every post with nastiness is just a waste of time and makes you look worse and sadder.

Although you might get some companionship and agreement from others who don’t like me here, which might be satisfying, and as I said before, far be it from me to deny you any small pleasure, as your life seems so filled with hate that I’d like to improve it if possible. Maybe spewing some of that hate at me will lessen the load a big, who knows?

Ironically, I have a special place in my heart for Candians, British and Aussies, which has never been diminished by any of them who I call friends, so it'd be awfully hard for you to make me hate you, despite your aggressively violent desire for the genocide of Americans.

gino, i internet-like you, and often agree with you. so, in a friendly way, i suggest skin-thickening is in order. There is nothing on the internet worth getting mad over--if you get mad, you've lost. Also, hate to say it, but anger never persuades. You spit venom at someone, they spit venom back--you get angry with someone, and they get defensive and discount everything you say. This is not the sort of forum where a man ought to "take his ball and go home."

It goes further than just ignoring you Niki, when I happen by you discrediting me by saying oh thats Gino he hates Americans... explaining off any opinion I might have

I have never called for a genocide of Americans as you keep going on about for example

I have stated repeatedly that I feel your country will continue on its course, doing the things I find objectionable if it doesn't get attacked...

But you have twisted that into whatever you wanted to say, then accused me of doing the same.

Story said if everyone asked me to leave if I would, so everyone can have a say

I will if that is the popular opinion

Don't attack me, I won't attack you

that is all I wanted

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I musta missed the contretemps. Gino, I agree with you. Basically, I think change to American will likely come from without rather than within. It will not be bombings per se, but a combination of terrorist actions (which have bled us economically and crumbled our civil rights. For Al Qaida, it's been "mission accomplished".) and economic pressure (from other economies like China).

I don't know what happened between you and Niki and Story, but I hope you stay on the board.

If it came right down to it, a rifle in the book depository sounds about right...

Millions have died here, is it better just to do nothing ?

It looks like the war of terror is going to bring down your economy, soon your military will either be scaled back, or brought home to contain Americans...

Maybe another attack this year to accelerate this

I just hope you don't drag the rest of us down with you

And then you explained that the "book depository" thing was a reference to the Kennedy assassination. As in - the action you would take if you were an American citizen would be similar.

A short time later:

Which sounds an awful lot like cheering for the US to get attacked. Is there an interpretation of "The only solution is to attack the US until it comes apart... Sooner the better" that I missed? And that coming right after a call for assassination... Sounds kind of violent Gino. Sounds kind of... well, I don't know if I'd call it genocide, but it's certainly calling for many innocents to die.

That last post I quoted was immediately followed by you deleting all your posts and disappearing. Why Gino? Hey - if you said this stuff in the heat of the moment and didn't really mean it, that's fine. Just say so. But don't go playing lamb of peace, or acting like we made this up. If you got hot enough to said the above, there's something going on in your head. I've never seen it before, but others clearly have.

Seriously, I don't want you to leave. I like what you say most all the time. But you've got a streak of violence, and you need to deal with it if you want to have a nice time playing with others. Because this is the internet, and you can't threaten me or cow me or anyone else into pretending that your aggressive, hateful attitude is my fault.

Gino, I'm NOT going to gang up on you like some people. As I have been at this site for a while (years), lurking, reading a lot, including your stuff. You try to neutral and unbiased (kinda like Fremd), and try to find the good and bad in all sides.

Since Niki and Story overreacted, I'm going to argue (only a little, if you can call it arguing. Did I mention I don't post in RWED much?) against the bombing theory on strategy.

Yeah, THAT'LL fix everything. If you'll recall the USA getting attacked (from foreign or domestic, whichever the viewer believes) is what started all this crap course [is pointing at all the post 9/11 "Wars", PARROT ACT, etc.] in the first place.

Who's to say it wouldn't just get worse.

Hookay, just gotta put my two cents' worth in here. Overreacted, eh Rahl? Please read the following:

I've never "attacked" Gino nor called him names, and definitely never asked him to leave. I've been upset about his consistent call for violence against the US, and yes, he said quite plainly that

WE (meaning you and I) are responsible for the actions of our government and our country

WE should do something about it, and if not, then

WE (America) should be attacked.

He has writen extensively on several scenarios of the above he would like to see. Some of the quotes above are a few of the things he said...there are MANY more. A couple of others and I tried to reason with him in a long thread, only to have him slap back repeatedly that we are responsible and in different ways say he wanted America taken down, then delete all the text in all his posts and disappear. Now he's back. I see he deleted material again above and said goodbye. I don't want him to leave any more than anyone else, and we haven't "ganged up" on him...he put up this thread. I'm sorry he's got a problem with me and with others here; it's not my place to bow down to his threats.

End of story.

As for me going after Gino, that's a laugh. Last remarks to me were

”Piss off Niki
last fucking warning
you go your goddamn way and I'll go mine,
or things will get ugly”

and before that “Listen you blue haired bitch”. I’ve never threatened Gino nor called him names that I recall, and he’s been consistently ugly as hell to me. More than once he’s claimed I’m a terrorist apologist in essence merely because, although I agree with him about EVERYTHING else, I disagree that violence is the answer, nor his threatening violence against America and Americans. That is literally the ONLY thing I disagreed with him about. He told several of us he didn’t want to talk to us anymore, and has promised to dog my posts, my EVERY post, with ugliness, which he proceeded to do.

Please don’t make assumptions about me; I reply to everyone’s post as best I can. I refuse to be told who I can and cannot respond to, which is where he started this vendetta. He said he wanted a "restraining order" against me, and followed it with the above.

Gino has said numerous times that America deserves violence against it, and suggested numerous ways he would like to see it. Violence against a country of the type he put forth IS genocide; whatever he says now, that's just the way it is.

If he hasn't deleted them, you can see the chronology and who said what in the thread...something about "Obama adored by his academic friends" or something.

Yes, I'm angry now; I wasn't before, I think there's something wrong with Gino and he's blinded by his hate, but when he starts playing the victim, after HE threatened ME, okay, I'm pissed off.

End of story. I'm going to go eat dinner, hopefully this will have calmed down by tomorrow.

OK first - he did advocate an attack on America. It's not an accusation. It's something he SAID.

Second: I have no idea who he is and where he's been. RWED is full of people not behaving rationally. I have more than once been one of them. I have never known there to be a rule against it, or a rule against calling folks out over it. If there is some history of Gino that means hands-off, hey, it wasn't posted. But I'm not a monster, a simple non-specific PM'd request could have worked wonders.

Quote:

You are sounding, to my ear, uncharacteristically self-righteous. Of course, I'm not saying that "whatever he does is okay." Jeez. I'm saying, merely, that I can understand why he might not apologize for his behavior.
Again, I don't know his personal history. But I try not to make it my first reaction to blindly accept someone being a jerk to me just because, well, they must have a really good reason. And I don't much like other people telling me that I should.

Quote:

mal4pres, please answer this question: do you truly believe that ginobifferoni advocates genocide against Americans? Do you honestly believe that he wants our cities bombed? Don't tell me what he said, we both know what he said. I'm asking you, do you believe that what he said reflects his truest feelings on the matter?
Have you really been following this exchange, or just reading a few of Gino's posts and assuming the rest? Cause I've answered this already. Just tonight I said, when quoting his deleted posts, that I did not think this thing he was talking about was genocide. Also, I told Niki that I am not convinced that he really believes this.

I certainly did not think he believed it to start. In fact, I got into all this trying to show Niki that the Yay for killing Americans! thing wasn't really what he meant. What I thought he meant was something else that I completely agreed with, and I told him so. He was immediately argumentative. At every step of the way it's been as if he's trying to convince me that this "kill America" thing is indeed his truest feelings. And he's gotten downright nasty about it.

When I feel like someone's giving me shit and might at any minute starting threatening and stalking me, even over the anonymous and supposedly safe internet, I am sure as shit going to cess the situation and act to defend myself. Now, until you know the particulars of my personal history as well as you know Gino's, I'd prefer you not ride my ass. Deal?

Oh man, all this deal making, I don't get it. I'm sorry, M4P. I decided to talk to you because I perceived you to be the most reasonable player in this peculiar game of four-square. Gino has been a very reasonable person in the past, but something has obviously set him off. Seems pointless to treat what, on the face of it, is an obvious lapse as the new Gino.

Back in the months after 9/11 one of my dearest friends wrote on his blog that the United States should bomb Mecca and Medina. I was shocked. I had one phone conversation with him about it, it went terribly, and then I let him go for a while.

I wish folk on the internet would do that more often. I wish Gino coulda brought himself to ignore Nikki, even when she wrote "Canadian: hates Americans." I wish Nikki coulda given it a rest instead of reading him the riot act. I really wish Story hadn't resorted to WWF trash talking--"grow a pair"--sheesh.

I'm sorry for picking on you. It was not my intent. You were just what amounted to the designated driver at the party, so I talked to you hoping to get the clearest reception, y'know?

When people cry "bully" I tend to take them seriously, at least on a subjective level. It's like crying for me, if someone starts crying, I generally stop everything and see what I can do. Sometimes, it ain't much.

I hope you will consider any ass-riding from me in these last couple posts as a lapse in otherwise sterling judgment on my part.

I was partally (not sure which part) trying to play devils advocate. I guess it failed, and I'll leave that stuff up to Chrisisall from now on.

I was going to write more, but I think Mal4Prez summed it up pretty good.

Oh fine here's what I wrote, if only for the exercise:
Quote:

IIRC ('cause the thread this issue's about is 161 posts long now, and I don't want to wait 5 min for the thing to load. (dialup and all)), Gino wrote what he did, about US should get attacked, out of frustration about how the US Gov't keeps going around the world mucking up works and then not having to suffer any consequences.

Also, he was trying to get your attention/provoke a response (he dug a hole).

Then when someone (Niki) was ACTUALLY appalled at the idea (rained in the hole), he didn't know how to react.

So he did what some people in the "tunnel of passon" (like tunnel vision), he made the situation worse by going on a borderline PN rant, about how killing/maiming some Americans could evoke good policy change. (I don't remember many major changes after the Ok City bombing.)

That's about as far as I got.

Frem, Right on.

Mal4, also right on. Every word you wrote could have come out of my mouth and it explains fully how I feel.
Quote:

I certainly did not think he believed it to start. ... What I thought he meant was something else that I completely agreed with, and I told him so. He was immediately argumentative. At every step of the way it's been as if he's trying to convince me that this "kill America" thing is indeed his truest feelings. And he's gotten downright nasty about it.
That was precisely my experience as well; I’ve never thought badly of Gino and I’ve appreciated what he’s had to say. When he started to go off on this tangent, as I said, I AGREED with him—I tried to point out some perspective that all empires behave as America has, and some other things for perspective, but after that he focused entirely on me seemingly and repeatedly said that EACH OF US is responsible for what America has done/is doing, and that WE should be judged and held accountable for it...then started in with his “bomb America” stuff. No matter how many times I told him I agreed with what he was saying except for the bombing/violence part, he came back at me as dismissing the lost lives and essentially saying I deserved to die, because I’m American.

The list I mentioned with “Gino: Canadian, hates Americans” is just that: I have trouble remembering where people come from and if they’re male or female, so I started keeping a list. Aging brain and all that. I haven’t even NEEDED to add PN to the list, he’s all too obvious with every post. But I added “hates Americans” after this exchange so I could remember where he was coming from. There are NO negative comments on anyone else on that list, and I only added that comment to remind myself when something he posted bothered me.

The only place I disagree with Mal4 is about the stalking and defending myself. I do defend myself, but in this case only when he misrepresented me (which he did a LOT in the thread in question), and I don’t feel defensive about threats of dogging my posts, I knew it wouldn’t go on long, nobody has that kind of obsessive determination. I feel sorry for him, especially after what Rahlm wrote. I didn’t know any of that. At first I believed
Quote:

Gino has been a very reasonable person in the past, but something has obviously set him off
too, which is why I tried to reason with him.It got way out of hand, and my efforts to clarify and bring perspective to the thread only made it worse.
Quote:

goes for me as well; in fact if anyone ever even tries to meet me halfway, my instinct is to immediately back off and be sympathetic. Anyone who’s been here for a while might have noticed that. Gino just kept getting more and more vicious.

Rahl, have you written or spoken to Gino? Do you know that what you wrote is accurate?
Quote:

Gino wrote what he did, about US should get attacked, out of frustration about how the US Gov't keeps going around the world mucking up works and then not having to suffer any consequences.
If that’s so, it’s understandable...and like I said, I SHARE that frustration; a number of us talked about it at length, and it’s been agreed upon by many in many threads.
Quote:

Also, he was trying to get your attention/provoke a response (he dug a hole).

Then when someone (Niki) was ACTUALLY appalled at the idea (rained in the hole), he didn't know how to react.

So he did what some people in the "tunnel of passon" (like tunnel vision), he made the situation worse by going on a borderline PN rant, about how killing/maiming some Americans could evoke good policy change.

If that’s true, I can understand it. What is missing there is that I FELL in the hole he had dug, I didn’t rain in it; I took him seriously and tried to reason with him—perhaps badly—by saying over and over that I agreed with his frustration, it was only the call for violence that I thought was wrong. It just got nastier. Once he started calling me names, accusing him of “attacking” him and misinterpreting me to others, I got mad.

Mea culpa for, once he came back, mentioning to others how he’d been. Maybe if I hadn’t, he’d have calmed down. But he started right back up in the same vein (which is WHY I made the remarks I did about “watch out, he hates Americans”), and then degenerated to attacking me personally. When he gave out with the threats, he seemed pretty irrational to me and I began to feel sorry for him, and have ever since, but I’m not giving up my free speech for anyone, and to tell me that I couldn’t respond to his posts—which I did about other points while ignoring his threats to me—was just plain wrong. He ran with it from there.

If you truly do know this is what happened, then ask him to come back, if you would. I bear him no ill will; I won’t even mention his “PN-style rant”; if it was an aberration, which I truly hope it was, there’s no reason and I don’t want to cause him any trouble. He DID get our attention, not that I feel he needed to, we DO share his frustration; if he could just let go with the “kill Americans” thing, I’d never mention it again. I don’t even need an apology; I’m bipolar, I know what it means to go off half cocked. And I’d argue it wasn’t a “borderline”—unless you meant “nearly”—because borderline is a much, much more complicated and horrible disorder than any other (including schizophrenia). The way Gino acted was far more like a hypomanic bipolar rage episode, and those I can understand COMPLETELY.

My actions were NOT hypomanic, in case anyone should misunderstand. I tried very hard to be reasonable; I tried to debate within the framework of what I believe is reasoned debate. I became emotional when he started the killing thing, partly because I couldn’t understand why anyone who seemed to hate us and want us dead SO badly would possibly want to BE here in the first place. That has continued to mystify me. But if what you say is true, it would answer that mystery and make sense.

Anyway, that’s my story. As far as I’m concerned, every word Little said applies to me as well (except I didn't know he'd been here that long); if Gino would come back, I’d ignore everything that has passed recently and try to see him as the Gino I have long respected. If he could possibly come back without spewing hate and continuing his vendetta, that would be nice, too. I think we all GOT the point, and I think most of us agree with him, if you take the “bomb America” part out. Maybe we will suffer retribution (we already have and are), definitely our “empire” is dying, but we don’t need hate among us here, do we?

Recognizing the danger of being teased, I nonetheless say, with one or two exceptions, I

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Hi HK. I was pretty hot when I wrote that last night - knew it and tried to tone it down, I'm sorry it was snippy anyway. The last thing I want to do is get in another spat with someone I generally agree with. Thank you for being all calm with the reply. I saw it this morning - couldn't reply from school, but was very glad that no new storm was brewing.

Yeah, and likely I was mad because you have a point. I really could have stopped from getting involved with this. Didn't let go of it soon enough when I saw where it was heading. Wish I had. I hate to think I've made a permanent enemy of Gino. I hope not.

Rue posted something on another thread that made me think. She finds herself getting in debates with him even when she fundamentally agrees. I think that's happened here. Even if me and Gino will never agree that we agree, or maybe never use the same words, I think we have very similar ideas.

Anyhow, hope it's really done with. I'm regretting that I addressed him in the Iraq video thread. Seemed like a preventive thing to me. I was imagining what he might come into that thread with, given stuff going on elsewhere in RWED. My "preventive measure" did not improve the situation. Lesson to me.

Hope Gino's not gone. Hope we can interact peacefully in the future. Guy's got a wicked good sense of humor.

Niki - love you maaaaan! Hugs!

I actually don't care whether Gino sees me as an enemy or not, as long as we can be civil and debate or discuss at least fairly reasonably...he's entitled to his feelings about me, whatever they may be, but I never did and never WILL see him as MY enemy. Only one of those I consider I got is PN...and maybe RL...

Anyone in touch with him, tell Gino to come back. Whatever he feels, I for one will pretend none of it happened and go from here, and I think most everyone else will, too. If he's been here that long, he's PART of us, dammit!

Just to be clear: I NEVER asked Gino to leave, nor did I want him to. Ever.

Gino,

I'm jealous. When I announced that I would leave RWED, nobody begged me to stay. Well, Chris said something nice to me privately, because he is sweetisall. But there certainly wasn't a thread about it, let alone a long thread.

I think that is a sign that you are an important member of a community--of a "family" of sorts. Eight years after our beloved show aired, we are all still here, bickering, but here. I think that should count something towards "family."

I hope that in 30 years, you will all still be here, bitching at each other.

Holy crap Gino....what the hell happened?

You were like peas and carrots with the others a few weeks ago.

Where was I when this wrathful fallout took place.

And oh yeah stick around. People will bully and hound you in the RWED when they feel they are wrong, and can't back up their facts. Just sayin.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Folks, when people say they hate the USA, believe them and don't act like such crybabies.

Gino used words. In the future, more violent people will use real weapons. If you get flustered over THIS, what are you going to do THEN?

I understand that "you" want to distance yourself from USA policies and politics. But the fact is that from a distance, we all look alike to "them"... particularly if "they've" just had their family killed and their village devastated. How YOU would feel if you were in that vast open-air prison they call Gaza, knowing that USA support makes it all possible?

If we lived in a tyranny, it would be easy for people to say... well, they didn't have a choice. But we live in a democracy after all.

Um... I'm not entirely sure who you're addressing here, but if you're talking to those who Gino went crybaby over, you might want to actually read the discussion that led up to it.

Cause what you're saying here completely misrepresents what went down.

BYTEMITE

Yeah, Democratic. We voted for Obama to replace someone who was killing our international reputation and policies... And we still ended up with a troop surge in Afghanistan anyway. That's SURELY what we all voted for.

And that's what people like Gino see and think, and the people who America keeps bombing. That based on the idea that America has a leadership "representing" the will of its people, that all Americans are real class 1 A-holes.

I'm going to say it. We need a national debate on the military and intelligence budget. We say we go in to help people, and people end up dying, and we piss off their families. We keep making people who want to kill us, seems self-defeating if the goal is to make America SAFER. Then we recruit more troops, send over more bombs, piss more people off?

We want a military, let's go back to state militias. I don't see what business we have in other people's countries. They try to come over here and start something, THEN we can kick their asses. Otherwise we're just making the world more unfriendly and less safe for Americans.

And I doubt any of this, if it were to occur, would be by a vote of our representatives, who are firmly in the pocket of lobbists. Such close connections between money, industry, and power nowadays.

If we really wanted this, the only way I can see to do it within the system is campaign finance reform and changing how we elect people. Then the American public might actually have a say in policy. But I don't think very many Americans actually DO want this.

Me, too, Byte, on a lot of what you wrote. And I've long held that campaign reform is the ONLY way we can regain some semblance of democracy. I wish they weren't so in the pockets of you-know-who that they'd actually vote for it. Eh...

Not to mention the Electoral College, eh?

We don't have a democracy. I'm not sure what you'd call what we have, but it's definitely not a "representative democracy" and hasn't been for a long time. Saying we're a democracy so we should be able to change it is naive, in my opinion.

CantTake, if I'd been around and seen you threaten to leave, I'd have asked you to stay. Mostly people here get into disagreements or misunderstandings and work it out, or agree to disagree; there's no reason for anyone to leave, and we're poorer for each voice we lose.

Oppyh, I went over everything that happened, and others put their piece in. If you think we bullied or hounded Gino (except maybe for Story...), you're way off the mark. We tried like hell to reason with him, and then HE started bullying ME...about which I'm not complaining, mind you, nobody can hurt one another on the internet. But you've definitely got things reversed.

Sig, I agree with most of what you said, but I disagree that anyone acted like a "crybaby". Virtually all of us here AGREE with Gino; it's only his repeated desire to do violence to the US, and to us personally, that was the problem.

I also don't think anyone here wants to distance themselves; we're pretty much ALL pissed off and badly want to see change, we just don't know how to go about it, nor do we think each individual should be punished because their government is misbehaving--in ANY country. I would no more hold a dissident in Iran or Afghanistan or anywhere else responsible for a government they can't control, unless they take up violence and kill innocent civilians. Which America has done, and which I abhor. I'm definitely not distanced from my government; I just don't have the power to change it, tho' I do everything I can.

I, too, never put Gino in a class with PN, etc., which is why I and others kept discussing the issue with him. When it became obviously futile, I gave up...so did some others. When he deleted all his posts and left, we were sad and confused. When he came back and started in all over again, I called him on it. HE went crybaby and put up this thread, despite the fact that nobody, absolutely nobody, had asked him to leave in any way whatsoever.

Yes, Mal4, I caught the video--several times, just like you. Choey came up and I ran it for her, and she almost fell down laughing. It's a great video--I'd feel sorry for the cat since most animals get nasty when feeling cornered, but from what I saw, he was just a pissed-off cat, not a defensive one. Glad he wasn't MY cat!!!
