No, it wasn't. That was just the will of the extreme, very far Left. Thankfully, we're not that country.
Except 51+% of us, which.. last time I checked... is called a majority.

I could go on an on, but if you notice, this info is from state and local polls as well as national. Wherever you're getting your info is seriously wrong. And I'm gonna ask you: Who benefits from the current HCR?

or not do business with any, if I so choose
Oh yeah? Good luck with that!

So, for the foreseeable future... don't use any electricity, natural gas, water, gasoline, or diesel. Don't communicate. Don't use any software. Don't watch TV or listen to radio. Don't buy any food. Don't get medical care. Don't buy any cars, furniture, appliances ... or anything else, for that matter. Don't use currency. Don't bank. For God's sake, DON'T trade stocks, corporate bonds, or anything else! Don't work for a big business.

I'm unhappy at Bush ignoring the will of the people when it came to immigration.
Gonna drill down on this for the moment: Who benefits from illegal immigration, again?

Again, polls are meaningless when they're asking the wrong questions and misleading the issue.

Drum up 1000 different polls, if you want, I'm not buying it. No amount of opinion polls can convince me that the Gov't has the right to a piece of my life so as to give to another person. That's what this is all about.

And you set up a false premise when you say...

That is simply beyond absurdity and has no part in the discussion at hand. I have to take, from what I see YOU say, that all these things should be provided by 1 source, that being the Gov't., right ?

Translation: polls are meaningless when they say something Rappy's desperately trying to live in denial about.

I wish I had options as to who to get internet from. At my last address I called every company I could find in the phone book, they told me flat out: we CANNOT provide you service because Comcast owns your neighborhood.

Free market? Whatever.

Sygnym - thanks for the info about the FF and their ideas about corporatism. I hadn't known any of that. Makes me sad, to see how the corporations have slowly inched their way in until they very nearly own our govt. You're completely right - the only way we can fix this mess is through govt, if we can just break it free. The corporations will never change themselves. Rappy's just whacked (but we already knew that, huh?)

Here's one Iowa question:

Would you favor or oppose the national government offering everyone the choice of buying into a government administered health plan insurance- something like Medicare coverage that people 65 or older get- that would compete with private plans?

Really, the question is about as clear as you can get!

Other than the fact that Medicate is a unmitigated disaster ?

Adding that finer point into the question might make some choose differently.

But I'm clearly bought and paid for by Big Insurance, right ?

Sure, you can ASK if folks want free puppies, ponies and a life time supply of gummy bears, but at what price? Once it's explained to them .....oh, never mind. American Idol's on soon, and I need to go update my Twitter feed.

Listen to the man; he's right.

Why you waste time trying to get through, Sig, I will never understand. Even tho' I've not been here long, I get that doing so is useless. He lives in another world, and will never dare peek at the real one; he'd probably implode.

What a waste of your valuable time! It's your time, of course, but there are so much more interesting things to talk to REAL PEOPLE about...

We fuck them up, we do have some social obligation to clean them up and stand them up. Even if there's no possible way for them to recover from what they've seen and experienced and how they've been trained.

It would be better if we didn't have any wars, IMO, but since that isn't the case now, if the chessmasters can actually be convinced to throw the peons some medical care, I'm not going to argue that. I will argue the former though.

Well, that's your opinion. But it's not a majority opinion, is it? So, have you conceded that the majority want a public option? Or are you going to regurgitate that same point again next week? (Not saying that the majority is right or wrong on wanting the public option, simply that it IS the majority, and not some misunderstanding/ poor question/ misrepresentation by the so-called "liberal MSM".)

No. I was just taking you at your word that you could choose to avoid dealing with "big business" if you wanted to, and I was simply pointing out that in order to make that choice you would have to economically isolate yourself from just about everything current. And therefore big business is just as inescapable... or possibly even more so... than big government. So, how ever did you get the idea that I was proposing that government "should" be the source for everything? There is small business. There are cooperatives. There are family farms and farmer's markets.

Your last two arguments would be a lot more on-target if you would respond to what I wrote, not to what YOU think!

And BTW- WHO benefits from illegal immigration, again?

Not at all the point I was making, Byte. Rappy insists that the government NEVER has the "right" to take part of your "life" (i.e., your MONEY) to give it to someone else. I point out that the government does this already, and with the full-throated support of the "Support our Troops!" folks. So we've blasted to pieces the lie that they disagree with the government taking OUR money to give to others. It seems they only disagree with the government using our money for things OTHER THAN waging war and causing suffering.

Now, as far as I've seen, "net neutrality" means the big bad government would be involved in your internet access only to the degree that they'd be there telling corporations they can't interfere with your internet access. I'm sure that's a sinister plot in someone's book...

Well, y'know... If you get right down to it, the Constitution itself is kinda the government telling you what you can and can't do, too. I'm surprised more people don't have a problem with that. ;)

What blows my mind is how the US can be so great and the constitution SOOOO great but the US govt, which is bound by the constitution, is evil, while private corporations, which do as they damn well please, are A-OK.

Huh?

Exactly. Government absolutely is NOT to be trusted, ever, for anything. Meanwhile, corporations are do-gooders, and have only ever done what was in the best interests of Americans. Y'know, things like polluting lakes and rivers so much that they caught fire, and if you happened to fall in one of them, you'd be rushed to the emergency room.

Rappy thinks of that kind of treatment as a public service, no doubt...

I'll assume you're referring to Medicare here; where do you get the "fact" that it's an "unmitigated disaster"? Peer-reviewed, non-partisan studies show quite the opposite: when uninsured people reach the age at which Medicare kicks in, their health overwhelmingly starts to IMPROVE.

It's odd that you'd call improving health in poorer populations an "unmitigated disaster".

The truth hurts, boyo.

Anyone who's been around here long enough knows you'll bend over backwards to justify ANYTHING a Republican Admin does - and vilify everything a Democrat Admin does.

So, you're right, it IS nonsense - but it's Rappy's own brand of nonsense.

You're 100% right, of course. Rappy lionizes his idol Reagan, who offered us higher taxes, higher unemployment, bigger government, more than DOUBLED the national debt, and was a horrible, horrible racist to boot.
