"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Looks like Rand Paul, son of Ron Paul, pulled off the upset today, and beat out the candidate hand-picked by (and endorsed by, of course) Mitch McConnell to run for the seat once held by Jim "EXCUSE ME!" Bunning. In the Republican party primary, Paul looks to have soundly defeated Trey Greyson, which must come as quite a slap in the face to Senator McConnell.

And Arlen Specter is in deep trouble in Pennsylvania, where he's in danger of losing to an actual Democrat. It didn't help that he asked President Obama to stop in and stump for him, but was snubbed when Obama flew over on his way to Ohio and DIDN'T stop to endorse Specter. Seems it's true: Nobody loves a turncoat.

Meanwhile, in Arkansas, incumbent "Democrat" Blanche Lincoln is also in trouble, being challenged from the left by the Bill Halter, the current Lieutenant Governor.

im loving the news about Rands victory.. its very encouraging to me. its interesting to note that Rand had the overwhelming support of 'tea-partiers', which led to a pretty decisive 20 pt victory. its hard to marginalize the movement anymore.

that they voted in the republican primary is also interesting. on the one hand you could say the TP is an outgrowth of the republican party. on the other though, the republican establishment supported Rands competitor, despite his less 'conservative' positions. this just supports my contention that the tea party does serve a purpose, and its to bring some healthy libertarian debate to the establishment parties- starting with the republicans.

Grayson was not only backed by McConnel, but also Dick Cheney, Rudy Guiliani, and a bunch of other politicians that represent the old(discredited)gaurd of the republican party. if any of you watched the KY debates, Greyson was clearly a Bush/McCain republican.. and yet he lost the republican primary! i think thats awesome! its vindication for those of us who felt that the republicans betrayed the principles of their platform, and people are not putting up with them anymore

libertarians are shaking up the GOP, and we're gaining some huge momentum. Ron Paul divided CPAC, winning the straw poll, then placed second at the SRLC, and now Rands wins KY.. its becoming increasingly apparent that the party IS changing. the democrat pundits are correct, moderates are being purged from the party. but when the left refers to 'moderates', what they mean is ambiguous, centrist politicians like Arlen Spectre. thats right! but now its being shown that even more conservative members are coming under scrutiny, as evinced by Treys loss, despite the backing of McConnel and the rest of the establishment 'conservatives'

Looks like Specter's out as well. They're calling it for Sestak. That's good news for Democrats, not so good for tea partiers, because Specter was quite an easier target for them.

Does anyone else find it odd that tea partiers are claiming Rand Paul's victory in a Republican primary, in which only registered Republicans can vote? I mean, aren't tea partiers supposed to be "independent", and now hew to the Republican party line? Not so independent that they don't REGISTER as Republicans, I take it.

yeah... Specter was an easy target, being such a quintessential, 'judge by the direction of the wind' politician. but Sestak... if he is worthy, and is willing to stand by the constitution, then he deserves to win. but if he is the type that will fold when the party leadership start twisting arms, whether it be over immigration or cap and trade or the economy, then he will be defeated. thats just my opinion.. but i think the country feels as though we're at a precipice, and we want REAL CHANGE! a real change from big government washington... and i think the tea party has the capability of giving huge amounts of grief to the politicians. and GOd bless it for that

yeah... but isnt that an implicit admission that the democrat party is ideologically further removed from the 'tea party' then the republicans? if the modern democrat party had any inclination to return to its 19th century classical liberal roots, more democrats would be represented by the tea party. its just an acknowledgement of reality, that the democrat party has proven to be even further removed from the constitution then even the republican party(which has been destroyed over the last decade)-and thats saying a whole lot!

Hello,

In the last big election, I switched to the Republican party just long enough to vote for Ron Paul. Only he didn't win the party. Afterwards, I voted for Obama for President. Then I switched back to Libertarian.

Free to Choose. That's me. Not stuck in any box. More power to others who do the same.

Really annoying the way the MSM is spinning the Arlan Specter defeat as "Open Season on Incumbents!" Specter lost, not because he was an incumbent, but because he was a turncoat and such a poor excuse for a Democrat that the party actually noticed! That's bad.

Maybe it SHOULD be open season on incumbents. Maybe it's time we run right-wing Democrats out of office and replace them with some actual progressives.

So much easier to what?

Is this another one of your masturbatory fantasies where you finally get to kill people? I'm sure you'd prefer them unarmed.

Randal Paul goes by " Rand ".

Does anyone know if that's in any way a nod towards Ayn Rand ?

Was that his dad's nick name for him, growing up, or did he choose it, anyone know ?

*edit* Hey, what do ya know.... here's the explanation !

He really does favor his father, in appearance, especially in the eyes.

( and Kwickie, you know damn well that Tea Party folks come from all across the board, GOP, Dem and gorram Independents. The only folks who don't get included are big gov't fascists types.... like yourself )

In his social views, too, especially in the racism and bigotry, it seems. Looks like there's some tape surfacing (several, apparently) of Rand saying he's not a supporter of the Civil Rights Act, and doesn't think you should have laws against discrimination, or laws to protect the disabled.

Only fascist types around here are you, Wulfie, and a few others on the right. And it should be noted that Wulfie has himself claimed - just today - that he wants to gather up all the progressives in one place, and given your claims in your Horowitz thread, CLEARLY you know exactly what he must mean by that, right? That means that, freedom-loving libertyhound that he is, and as much as he SAYS he'll fight for anyone's right to their beliefs, he wants all those who don't believe like him to be rounded up and killed. ),

I find it telling that right-wing authoritarians like y'all are aligning yourselves with the tea parties, and claiming to be about "liberty" and against government intrusion into your lives. That only applies to YOUR lives, though, right? Not so much for other people. You say the tea parties are about liberty and freedom, small government and personal responsibility, and then you line up behind invasive and intrusive government at every opportunity, at least so long as it's intrusive government being run by Republicans.

Your claims about the tea-baggers are just so much BS. The polls say a solid 75% of the tea-baggers identify themselves as Republicans. That's THEIR words calling them Republicans, not mine. Three of every four tea-baggers were die-hard Bushies like yourself, cheerleaders of torture, kidnapping, convictions without trials or charges, and pre-emptive wars against sovereign nations who had not attacked us. In other words, like you, the tea-baggers are a bunch of right-wing idiots who are easily manipulated and more easily led.

And more than one can play at that game.

Who the hell you think has been setting them against each other and winding them up into counterproductive, self-destructive behavior ?

Once someone it stupid enough to accept the programming to act on command, anyone who knows what buttons to push can do it to em, and now you got like eight, nine factions doing it all at once, AND folks like me throwing wrenches in the works besides, because much like the brownshirts y'all are ignorantly imitating, you'll pave the way for a nightmare - and what's even stupider is that you won't even benefit, cause just like most of the brownshirts you will be "rewarded as a traitor deserves" and the very first into the maw of the machine you helped built, whinging about how loyal you were as they laugh in your gullible ignorant faces.

And all that'll be left of YOU, while the world burns is some american made piece of shit in your driveway with a gadsden slapped over a W.

Idiots.

Rand will have to address what ever issues are thrown at him, but the sad part is , being called a "racist " by the Left now amounts to next to nothing, it's been so over played by now.

Not being for the Civil Rights act, on its own , isn't any indication of racism, in the least. ( I know, sheeple who have been brain washed a certain way will find such concepts hard to comprehend... ) Also, "special" laws as listed above , and such idiot ideas as "hate" crime laws really don't have a place in our society. Sounds to me like Rand is sticking true to some very basic Libertarian ideas. Good for him.
