Hey, "Sockpuppet" (cute), how about bringing the pertinent existing ones over from the other thread, so we don't start anew? I've noted a few, but not all of them, and if we start all over without the old "theories", there'll end up with a lot of duplication and this thread not being as helpful as it could.

Of course, that's just one voice who WANTS to figure out who she's talking to, not someone who wants to snark and accuse people of being sockpuppets.

Considerations I've made, an abbreviated list, not accusations, just things that have crossed my mind:

1. PK might be a sock puppet, I don't know of whom. (Peacekeeper: Please explain why you get that impression.Until about 8 hours ago.I didn't even know what one was!!!!!)
2. Kathy, you can't be a sockpuppet, because you have a known human attached.
3. Sig I have often pondered as a possible sockpuppet of Rue (Rue: That would make my sockpuppet nicer than me ! That's my hidden self ! (????) The one I am too ashamed to post as ! (hunh ???))
4. Participant, it has crossed my mind, could be a sockpuppet of Pirate News. The other Pirates are perhaps family members.
5. Wulf could be a sockpuppet of someone clever. He always brings up the same issues, a normal person wouldn't do that, unless they were just doing it to test the audience. My main suspect would be Frem, sorry, you just have more than a logical amount of patience with Wulf. I have seen pics of both of you. (Frem: Wulf is too consistent and sensible to be a sock puppet candidate. Anybody not agreeing with the statements he makes would not be able to comprehend the subject matter he covers and expouses, so he cannot be represented by somebody of opposite bias.)
6. Whozit was initially too incompetent to be the sockpuppet of Mike
7. Riverdancer might by River6213 as well. So many people have been. The fact is that River, when not ousted, is an interesting and insightful commentor. Admit it, we were all fooled by Riverlove for a long time. Kaneman less so. I personally found the original River6213's contributions very thought provoking, and miss them. (Riverdancer: could assure you that I am not, if that had any hope of changing your mind.)
8. YinYang could also be...
9. common behaviors, as well as times of disappearance are give aways as well as knowledge base. Everyone thinks to fake voice, post a pick, take different positions, but they tend to fit the same psychological profile.
10. Mike, Frem, Byte, Niki, Rue, PN, are lowest on my list of "not a sockpuppet" followed by probably not Hero, O2tB, Geezer, HK.

Not sure what you meant by this, Byte. I meant no harm in moving the information over, I assure you, and was as much for myself as for anyone else. As I've said before, I abhor the idea of sockpuppets and feel I would benefit from at least a glimmer of who might be one. I don't take anything on faith and tried to add in refutations, but some of them make sense to me and I just wanted to be aware without having to read the entire thread again. I have a sockpuppet. It's The Spelling Fairy™. It was part of a long-time ongoing joke at a couple of the Honda forums, where there was actually a group of us who shared The Spelling Fairy™ amongst us, and could log in and correct really egregious errors. There was also a Grammar Nazi™ whose log-in info was shared amongst those same groups, across several boards for a number of years.

So The Spelling Fairy™ followed me here at some point, and I tend to assume that everybody everywhere is in on the same jokes. Nobody here seemed to get it, though. Go figure...

Oh, and antimason is also BlueSunCompanyMan and xxRaftermanxx, near as I can tell.

I was the Original Poster of the other thread, which I think is the one linked to above. Also, I am the one who suggested in that thread that a new thread be created if the discussion was to continue.

I suspect there are numerous threads that some wish were not visited, so I cannot state that nobody felt that way about the other thread. However, the other thread is linked in the OP of this thread, as should be, so that defeats the suggestion that obfuscation is the goal of Sock Puppet.

Also, who is Sock Puppet?

The reason I started the other thread was to develop a list of known or suspected Sockpuppets, but there was no useful input, and the thread was deluged with discussion and babbling, without the informational input I'd desired. After over 100 posts, some additional input was finally posted, but by that time the thread was unwieldy and bloated.
This thread was started by (presumably) a sockpuppet, and already has 2 dozen posts without a coherent list, so the success I had envisioned for such a list seems unlikely. I might try some time when I have more time, but as long as the informational input continues here, this should be a productive thread, so thanks to all who are actually contributing.

Other bits:
I never found the user number of Kaneman, can somebody post it? Thanks in advance.

Nonspecific theorists are not valid. For instance, Everybody thinks Niki2 = Kwicko should not be in the list, unless Everybody is a logged name. If numerous users agree with the sockpuppet suspicion, each name should be listed.

It also occurs to me (I forget if I considered it originally) that another sub-list can be used, showing users who have changed their names, for various valid reasons. The symbol can be >>. For instance, ???? >> BlueSunCompanyMan. Post #???. Where the first ???? is the prior name of BSCM and the second ??? is the thread number where he stated the fact. I used BSCM because I think he did state that he was a previous name, but lost his logon info or somesuch. Apologies if I recall that incorrectly.

As to the previous thread degenerating into discussions, etc., so has this one, and I see no problem with that. In a way it's a silly subject, and Kane is right, it's paranoid--which is what I've said about my feelings. I m paranoid; I like to know who I'm talking to. Tho' it's no biggie and as I said, I rarely think about it, I think it's the mostly about who might be a sickpuppet of the more "ugly" people here that I get paranoid.

On the other hand, since it can be done (and apparently so easily, from what DT did here), I don't think it's paranoid. Anonymity is bad enough on the internet, without having anonymity WITHIN anonymity and someone doing it specifically to let their nastier side out--or pretend to be nice to hide that nastier side. JMHO.

Denial, obviously, means nothing since anyone can deny anything, it's just something for reference. Nobody has to believe me when I've said that I've never run into (known) sickpuppets elsewhere and other forums prevent it...or at least don't let you have more than one per IP addy. I've never seen a forum limit usernames based on IP, it's always based on email accounts. Email accounts are also not limited based on IP, and even if they were there are enough email clients out there for someone to have basically as many as they want. I myself have three. One is old, started at the tender age of 13 when I first discovered the wonders of the internet. I used it regularly until I was twenty. By then, my spam filter was having a lot of trouble keeping up with it, and it was a long pain in the butt to type here as my login. So I got a new one, but kept the old one so I could give it out to places I suspected would spam me. Just recently I got a more businesslike email address to put on my business cards. So, I have three, but it would be easy enough to get even more than that and have multiple usernames wherever I wanted. Which I don't really want, because it's hard enough being me sometimes.

Oh, and I remember one of the first forums I joined, in the long long ago, referred to multiple accounts as 'mule' accounts. I don't know why. I first heard the term sockpuppet here.

I'm sorry she's not around; as I said, it would have been interesting, even if we had diametrically opposite viewpoints (also, if you say she was "awsome" and she and I argued, then she might be that "intelligent right-winger" I'd so like to have around!

Okay, I've become convinced Kaneman is someone's sickpuppet. His "opinions" are so far outside the realm of reality that they seem too crazy to be expressed by a real person. I suspect he's one of our more out-there posters who's using the sickpuppet to be REALLY out there, and I suspect he posts under that name to trigger others.

Can anyone clear it up for me. I see "Kaneman was a known sockpuppet, flagged by Haken for being offensive, not for being a sockpuppet." If he's a known sickpuppet, who is he?

My guesses would be Anti, OTB, Crappy or Wulf--Wulf being at the last of the list because sometimes he's reasonable, tho' that doesn't eliminate him because Kaneman would be the sickpuppet he uses to be REALLY hard core.

So who is it? If he was a known sickpuppet, someone knows.

p.s. Rose, it never occurred to me you were a sickpuppet...you used a similar name "elsewhere", told me who you were from there, and in both places your writings have been universally gentle and reasonable. Just FYI.

I actually like River, so I mean nothing personal by this: No, not to converse with us. Numerous threads have been read by the people here, some of them quite entertaining. I seem to recall one where citizen was the only non-river username in the midst of many sockpuppets, and he was quite confused. Since I used to find citizen very annoying, I was very amused at his plight. Actually, it reminded me of some scenes from dystopic scifi noir.
