Ok, a bit off the usual topics posted here... but have you guys seen/heard about this car?

Wow.

300hp, 280lb/ft, 19-31 mpg, 0-60 in 5 seconds...

AND FORD NEVER TOOK A BAILOUT!

This car is going to change a lot of things.

I can't wait!

Mine was a rust bucket, but a rust bucket that always outran the cops. Good training for racin on TV against F1 world champs and Indy 500 winners.

Talked to an old guy with a new $40,000 Cuda. Basically a Cadillac that's never driven over the speed limit, for fear of the 3 speeding tickets he's got pending.

What good is technology when you live in a fascist commie police state? Especially when brainwashed, braindamaged and fluoridated to never fight a ticket in court.

I question that 5-second 0-60 time. You sure that wasn't for the 5.0 V8 version?

Either way, it's a lot of bang for the buck. Of the current pony-car revival, I like the Mustang the best. Challenger is a Dodge, so figure it will fall apart in a day or so, and it looks tubby when compared to the original; Camaro looks like a cartoon car, and I don't have the required mullet to own one... But the Mustang just looks like a damn MUSTANG, like it should.

Car&Driver recorded a 0-60 run of 5.4 seconds for the V6, 4.6 for the V8. 5.4 ain't shabby, though. That's as good as a Subaru WRX Wagon could pull a decade ago, for about the same money. But the Mustang definitely looks better.

Saving my pennies.

I figure, if I get the v-6, then add a supercharger... I can get all the "go" I want while keeping the mpg...

I can appreciate a fine automobile. I really can. But the idea of fawning over a piece of machinery, ( other than a Firefly ) just seems a bit pointless.

It's just an object.....

Oh, I'd rather look at a line of fine machines than most of the posts here, to be sure. I just never "got" why guys gawked over cars, bikes and the like as if they were looking at a Playboy playmate.

I hope when I AM 80......

Well, unlike women..

When a car needs food, you can feed her, and she never complains about the station.

You can change out old parts on a car.

A car is generally more reliable than a woman.

hehehe

I agree, I'd rather look at a toaster then a NIKI2 post, BUT! When you can have all that power at your command, an object that was built to make you happy, isn't that how Mal felt when he 1st saw "Serenity"?

Rappy, I'm your friend, listen to me. Go to your nearest FORD dealer and get a BONER!

You can't. You can get more "go", but you lose the mileage doing so. Superchargers and turbochargers are thirsty, too. The more air you pump in, the more fuel it takes to stay stoichiometric. I went with a "Stage 2" performance cam on my li'l 1.6 liter four-banger for a while. Performance was great - 0-60 times dropped down to the 6.5-second range. Unfortunately, fuel mileage dropped like a stone. Because there was more power, it was more fun, so I stepped into it more - and the mileage dropped through the floor. At one point, I got 14mpg on a tank of gas. So I yanked that cam out of the car that weekend, and went back to the stocker.

And that WRX I referred to above, as a performance benchmark for the V6 'Stang? Yeah, they were known for getting around 14-15mpg, too - despite having an "efficient" turbocharged 4-cylinder.

Performance costs, and often costs fuel mileage. At 19mpg, that Mustang isn't bad at all, given its performance. If I wanted more power, I'd likely just go ahead and step up to the V8. It's a hell of a motor.

I *DO* wish Ford would find some money in their budget for an independent rear suspension, though. The hoary old live-axle is really showing its age and decrepitude.

Hmmm. My 2002 has 345rated hp, 380 actual hp, 350 tq, 0-60 in under 5 sec, I get 20 when I stomp on it contstantly and burn gobs of rubber, and 30 on Interstate when I only spin the tires on the onramps. And it looks soooo much better than a rustang.
After 9 years, Frod finally catches up to old standards.
