Hello,

Whatever his position on the issues, the man is quickly proving to be a lousy politician.

"You've all got plenty of hills, no one will miss a hill" is not the correct thing to say.

In fact, it is almost a catastrophically stupid thing to say.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

BLUESUN: the United States was not created to be a capitalist country... was not created to be a corporatist nation... it was created to be a democracy to represent "We the people", not "We the CEOs". . Apparently Rand Paul doesn't know much about US history.

Those things are an anathema to Leftists. They want to demagogue anything that doesn't smack of total, big gov't control over the lives of every man, woman and child.

They're still singing the late 19th century tune in the dawn of the 21st century.

Seems Maxine Waters is more in line w/ the thinking that Sig et al are hoping for....

Thank you Anthony,

Rap, maybe you missed that it was I who posted, not sig. Not close enough to your back yard there?

Bscm,

It's a pretty moronic position to take if you are running for senator from Kentucky. People quite fond of their hills there, and not looking for a big strip mine, cause, you know, its not like they need the cash, and I don't think you'll find them on the lefty socialist side, its more like this:

Hmm, (looks at kentucky) nice state you got here. Hey, here's an idea, let's level it, pave it, and put up a walmart. Guys, you should come down to Harris county texas some time, which is where I'm really from, not harlan county ky, and oh yeah, vote for me..DOH!

Ah well, free election for random democrat.

BTW, For a solid understand of how the right loses, check the above logic.

Crappy, your "arguments" aren't arguments, they are moronic RWA talking-point generalities. You can make them, but noone except your buddies will listen. It's a shame you haven't anything worth adding.

BSB, yours are only slight less nonsensical. Politics is about compromise, and about representing the people. I happen to know a few Kentuckians who abhor the destruction caused by coal, and the simple FACT is that coal is deadly in more ways than one can count.

Aside from all that, if he made that statement, it IS his dirge (I could't get past the first 30 seconds, and was surprised I lasted that long). I don't need to hear another words from Rand Paul; he hasn't got the common sense or intellect of his father and hasn't a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected. If I'm wrong, feel free to remind me afterwards, but I'm not. He's digging himself in deeper and deeper every time he opens his mouth.

Huh. Guess I never realized 'til now that you consider yourself a leftist.

I mean, it IS you who is arguing that the big government take complete control over the oil spill caused by a corporation, isn't it?

Hey, they own the rig, they control the lease on that area of the Gulf, and they were just exercising their sovereign rights to not comply with safety regulations and inspections, so what's the big deal? No harm, no foul. Besides, as Rand Paul would say, what's one more body of water in a world full of oceans?

Yup. Doesn't take authority to see it as the pablum it is. Visceral generalities meaning nothing.

Lessee, who made corporations into people so they could take over elections?

Who kills doctors to "save" the lives of the unborn?

Who interceded in a family's choice of life and death for their loved one?

Who de-regulated everything under the sun, resulting in catastrophe after catastrophe for the working people of America?

Who gave us TARP? "No child left behind"? Medicare Part D?

Which Presidents ran up the debt and left the rest of us holding the bag?

Who invaded Iraq for mythical reasons and sent our people over there to die?

Who abandoned Afghanistan when we had a real chance of winning, leaving Al Qaeda free to continue terrorism and kill Americans?

Who is now screaming louder about wanting Obama to single-handedly take over from BP, stop the gusherfuck and clean up the Gulf?

Damn...sure sucks when "big government" takes over and sticks its nose into our lives, don't it?

Ooops, that was the Republicans...sorry about that...

If Rand doesn't know much , that seems to mean that SignyM must not know anything :

ARTICLE 4
Clause 1: Republican government
“ The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government ”

This clause, sometimes referred to as the Guarantee Clause, has historically been a part of the debate about the rights of citizens vis-a-vis state governments. The Constitution offers no explanation as to what constitutes a republican government; however, the Federalist Papers give us an insight as to the intent of the Founders.

A republican form of government is distinguished from a pure democracy, which the Founding Fathers wanted to avoid; as James Madison wrote in Federalist No. 10, "Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths."

"Who kills doctors to "save" the lives of the unborn?"

Hello,

I do not think it is just to smear 'the Republicans' with this action, as it was the act of unbalanced extremists, not 'the Republicans.'

I don't think the Republican party condones murder.

The debate is rapidly descending into the abyss.

Can we track back to federalism for a second. I think there was a pretty strong dissenting opinion on that, though I agree the US was never a democracy, was never intended to be, and that democracy is just a terrible form of govt, and even that the world would be a lot better off if we had all accepted that after athens attacked sparta.

But that aside, I think there are some matters of discussion warranted as to what the founders intended the US to be. I will through this one in "democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for dinner" Ben Franklin.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I remember reading a lot about the 'tyranny of the majority' and it seems the founding fathers intended to stack the deck in such a way as to decrease the threat of such tyranny. I'm not sure they succeeded.

What we have currently is a representative government where bribery is legal.

I'm not sure how to fix it.

Jefferson seems to have been aware of the problem. Didn't he worry about the power of money (greed) to destroy the nation? Wasn't it he that recommended a regular cycle of civil war to keep the big wigs honest? His solution isn't workable, but the suggestion seems to indicate that the essential problems of government were well known to him.

I haven't heard any breakthroughs in political science that would give us a trouble-free/maintenance-free government free from abuses.

It seems we are left to debate only the least evil of the evil options at our disposal.
