Congressman Bob Etheridge is walking along a sidewalk in Washington, DC. As he passes he is greeted by someone who asks “Do you fully support the Obama agenda?” The video posted herewith shows his reaction to the question, and their ensuing exchange. It speaks for itself. What excuse is there fore such conduct from someone who purports to be a representative of the people?

The Democrat Party’s name refers to the power of the people. But it’s more apparent every day that, as in the “People’s Republic of China” or the “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea”, the mentality that prevails is that of an unquestionable Party dictatorship. The Congressman certainly has a right to ask who he’s talking to before he answers a question (and/or to refuse an answer if he chooses to do so.) But he has no right to lay hands on someone showing nothing more threatening than curiosity and a camera.

Yet he responds as though offended by the very idea that some Joe Blow on the street would dare to question his views. All Americans should be deeply concerned with the arrogance of power this exemplifies. Government of, by and for the people is surely a dead letter when elected Representatives have so far forgotten their dependence on the will of their constituents that they no longer automatically treat everyone who politely approaches them with the respect an employee owes to the people who pay his hire.

I think the Congressman was half in the tank. Probably coming back from his 4 martini breakfast.

How many days would this story air on MSNBC if he was a conservative congressman?

As a public figure, if someone ambushes you on the street and starts asking you questions, I think you certainly have the right to know who that person is, and what are they doing. The Congressman asked for that info several times, and the "student reporter" refused to answer. I'm actually glad the man resisted the unwanted inquiries because there is already way too much of that going on now. Any twit with a cell phone now thinks they're a bona fide reporter? Anyone walking down the street is fair game to be ambushed and put on camera? The Congressman did not handle the situation very well, but under the circumstances, he reacted fairly normally, if not professionally.

Nope. He is a public servant in Washington representing American citizens not reporters. He should answer questions asked by ordinary people. In fact more people should be asking these clowns more questions. They have to be held accountable. And when is putting your hands on someone who is asking you a question considered "acting normally"?

There is a time and a place for a public figure, or servant, to be interviewed. I do not support the media or any individuals' actions that use papparazzi and ambush journalism tactics on our elected officials.

Don't see why he had to be an ass about it. He could have been the least bit congenial and friendly, asking who they were, why did they want to know, was there anything specific they wanted to ask about, etc...and do it with a smile, instead of scowling at them and barking " WHO ARE YOU ? " over and over.

Pathetic.

At the very least, a friendly " sorry, now's not the time, come by my office , if ya can.... so long " would have made the whole incident one big nothing.

On the other hand, I wholeheartedly support them, the whole fucking point is that THEY answer to US, not vice-versa, and the moment you allow them to forget that, the moment YOU start believing otherwise, the entire system goes to shit.

If you don't want the public in your goddamn business, don't run for office, hows about that ?

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Plenty enough of that kind of douchebaggery going around. Here's Jim Bunning doing his version of it:

And yeah, he made himself look more an ass by pushing the issue, and by pushing the kid around and trying to bully him. He just painted a big target on his back, and it's his own goddam fault for bein' such a dick about it. YES, the kid was likely trying to provoke him; doesn't mean he had to play into it so readily.

Kid would've come out of it looking like the bad guy, and likely would face charges. It ain't right, but I'll bet that's how it would've gone.

The kid played it right, just letting this idiot dig himself in deeper. Even lefty media like The Young Turks are calling this congressman out as a freaking moron.
