"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Bullshit. Of nearly $875,000,000 in aid offered, he turned down over $850,000,000 of it. That's "substantive". Hell, $474,000,000 of it was in FREE OIL, which was being offered with the caveat that the U.S. resell it and use the funds generated to help Katrina victims.

"No thanks! I got this!" - George W. Bush

On this matter, make no mistake. I want you to go fuck yourself long and hard, as well as anyone who agrees with you. I got no use for you. --Auraptor

This vile and revolting malice - this is their true colors, always has been, you're just seeing it without the mask of justifications and excuses they hide it behind, is all. Make sure to remember it once they put the mask back on. --Fremdfirma

America loves a winner!

Residents in Louisiana even agree.

Obama is f-ing up, worse than Bush.

To even try to deny this is nothing but an act of pure idiocy.

Had we opened up ANWR, and not given financial breaks to oil companies to entice them to drill in deep water, instead of ' close ' to shore, this may have been averted.

You mean "relocated". You still don't get that the spill didn't happen because they were in deep water, or because they were in water, period; it happened because they were careless and were cutting corners to shave costs and save time. That kind of behavior leads to spills no matter where you put the wells.

And if you say that the spill wouldn't matter if it were in the ANWR, you're admitting that the ONLY reason you care about this spill is because it's in your back yard. You don't care about the ecosystem or the wildlife; those are all just crocodile tears (you don't care about crocodiles, either).

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I think a reasonable person is left to conclude three things.

1) The Industry is more messed up than we thought.

2) We have no idea how much more, because the watchdog agency was more messed up than we thought.

3) We have no idea how much more for them either, because we've hardly begun assessing it.

At this moment, I figure that any day could bring a new oil disaster somewhere. Who knows how wonderfully all these operations are being maintained? Honestly, who knows? Not anyone I can see. I'm not even convinced that the oil company itself knew precisely how godawful their own operation was, because they'd have to be lying to themselves and closing their eyes tight and pretending constantly for things to get this bad. Willful ignorance of the facts does not breed Wisdom.

So for anyone to assert that doing it Here would have been better, or doing it There would have been better, or doing it This way or That way would have been better... Well, you have to pretend to know something that no one knows. What no one knows yet is this: What's the safest way to pull oil out of the ground?

But I trust we'll know the answer to that question by the time everything has been dissected. It's an autopsy that will take years. In the mean time, we can be very grateful for every limitation and constriction on existing operations, because we don't know diddly about them. You all remember when the Challenger blew up, how we kept flying the other shuttles? Me neither. We grounded them all till we figured out what the problems were. To do less for the disaster of the century is folly.
