Hey Wulfwind!

Sen. Lindsey Graham predicts the Tea Party movement will eventually "die out" despite the political energy it's generating during this midterm election year.

In an interview with the New York Times Magazine posted online Thursday (at http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/04/magazine/04graham-t.html?_r=2&hp), the South Carolina Republican lamented the state of his party and doubted whether the Tea Party movement will survive.

"The problem with the Tea Party, I think it's just unsustainable because they can never come up with a coherent vision for governing the country," Graham told the magazine, recounting his private meetings with members of the movement. "It will die out."

He added
Quote:

"We don't have a lot of Reagan-type leaders in our party. Remember Ronald Reagan Democrats? I want a Republican that can attract Democrats," he told the magazine, "Ronald Reagan would have a hard time getting elected as a Republican today."

Hee, hee, hee, he's right, Reagan WOULDN'T get elected today--certainly not by the Tea Party!

I'm SO enjoying watching the GOP court, then trash, the Tea Party, and the Tea Party get primary candidates elected then deserts them, candidates the GOP knows will never go anywhere. Makes me almost sad for them. Almost...except that it's too much fun to watch both flounder! It's too late now to hope for the Repubs to be a viable second party, so I'll just accept the humor and wait for another time, when hopefully they come to their senses and get rid of that albatross around their necks.

Well, when they're backing candidates like the Chicken Lady and Rand "I'm a Doctor 'cuz I say so" Paul, it's kinda hard to think they're going to make much of a lasting impact.

It already CAME. Not nearly enough of it, but at least we're not stuck under Dumb Dumbya and Darth Cheney. It's a beginning.

But the change THEY'RE hoping for? Not gonna happen, they're eating their own tail too hard.

I can't stop smiling at the thought of all those GOP kingmakers sitting around in their smoky rooms with their heads in their hands groaning "what the hell do we DO with these nutwings?" and looking at all the seats they thought they'd get which are now hopeless...as well as wondering "what's next?"

Also the picture of the Tea Baggers all jumping up and down, clapping one another on the back, yelling and screaming at their "victories", then what their faces are gonna look like when all those victories go down in flames come November.

Doesn't work to win a primary and lose the general, you just look like the fools you are.

Has to warm my heart just a leeetle big, anyway. I'll take it, with all the doom, gloom, disappointment and horror going on right now. I'm easy.

Realistically, Lindsay Graham is not the GOP, and the tea party has far more staying power, which is not to say that he is a gonner either, oh, and you might want to fix that.

Tea party is here to stay, and so far its a refreshing change.

Oh yeah. Desperation.

Interesting to watch burnouts... burnout even more.

Oh, I think it's a bit premature to say that. They're Ross Perot at best right now.

Blah blah. Just more Wulfie bable, with nary an effort to address any points raised. Come on, tell us why we shouldn't mock the chicken lady and Not-Dr. Paul?

While I too think the Tea Party might be a little too volatile for sustainability, I point out that Democrats (or democratically aligned left wing folk) don't really have a coherent plan for government either.

That might actually be the best thing both groups have going for them, in that a large number of their members aren't so subject to group think. (Well, maybe. News media has pretty strong control over public thought)

But the dangerous portions of both, the ones that see all this as a tool to use, however, they all DO have one agenda. If the parties want to have a chance at being free thinking and representative of the population, they need to throw off these influences, quickly.

I don't see that happening with either, unfortunately.

All things come to an end.

Sooner or later, the "Tea Party" will be a minor footnote in American history, that nobody bothers to read. It will join the Bull Moose Party, and Reform Party, and other impotent paroxysms of populist angst. The two party system is monstrous, but mighty, and dressing up in Stars-and-Stripes Minutemen uniforms and frothing at the mouth will not dent it one bit.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Tea Party grow into a legitimate 3rd party. But that's not going to happen while they are embracing the looniest of the loons just because they're not part of the establishment.

But... but... but... Rand Paul is BOARD CERTIFIED! Just not, y'know, by the board that actually certifies opthalmologists or anything. But heck, he made a ton of money in Lasik, and there's a chance that at least some of his patients won't go blind because he didn't like regulations and liked cutting corners for personal profit!

And yes, the biggest impact the teahadists and hatriots are going to have with their "poutrage" is the impact crater they're going to leave after the Republican party crashes and burns because of the actions of the tea-baggers.

Desperation has a terrible smell, doesn't it?

It smells like bullshit.

Poor libs. Its tough right now for you. People are FINALLY starting to question your garbage, and are waking up.

Gun control has fallen, as it should have before so many innocent people died.

Your ideas of "racissm" are being called out.

Your belief that government should take care of you from cradle to grave (on the backs of everyone else) = gone.

You've gone over to calling people who don't agree with you "loons". Or rassists. Or nuts. Or tea-baggers. Or... well why go on?

Your child-like nature is on display for the whole world to see.

You are destroying the country. (Not that Bush did much different... however, how IS the Patriot Act, and those 2 wars, being gotten rid of again? Oh, yeah...)

BUT.

There is hope. The calvary is coming.

My people, and people like me.

I know, for some here, thats a damned scary idea. But thats ok. It would be.

For too long, people have been indoctrinated with the idea that they are slaves to the government. They just phrased it differently, and made it more palatable.

But now? Not any more.

These next few years are going to be really interesting.

Aw gee, Wulf, I wish you well, and hope all of your dreams come true, and that when they don't, its the government's fault.

The calvary (while excellent at killing injuns) has been obselete and un-needed for years. Also, desperation has a delightful smell--redolent of french fry grease, Axe body spray, and body soil. Smells like 'Merican male. Mmmmhmmm.

But damn if it isnt somehow distinctly American. David vs Goliath. The underdog clawing, biting, and scratching for the win.

The light finally beating back the darkness.

Other than that, and the general ad hominem condescension of this post, I agree with everything up to the point "the cavalry is coming."

Wulf,

I get the heroic aspect of it, as you aptly articulated it--and suspect thats the appeal, not the chance of it working, or making a difference.

It's nice to feel like the underdog, going out guns blazing to face impossible odds, and set the world right. All 'Mericans who've consumed enough media can identify with his narrative, right?

I personally prefer the anti-heroic narrative. No, wait, I prefer villainy. I like the idea of the scrappy underdog putting up a good fight, and being mercilessly crushed by the Alpha, who promptly forgets the underdog even existed. Not exactly american, but very human...or wolf like.

By the way, the "calvary" isn't coming. Unless you mean the hill where Jesus was crucified is coming. Which I'm not sure WHAT that implies.

If you meant the CAVALRY is coming, you should know that means they're coming for you, Wulfie. The Cavalry is part of the U.S. Army, and is under the command of the Commander in Chief, otherwise known as your President. Maybe if you're nice, he won't have them raze your apartment.

I think it's YOUR racist ideas that are being called out, time after time after time. You just aren't very good at hiding your overt racism.

As for tea-baggers, it was the tea party people themselves who started calling themselves that. It's not my fault they didn't know that it has other meanings, with which they were less comfortable.

By the way, you're not the "calvary". Or even the cavalry. You don't have the stones for it, and they don't have the patience to deal with a slow learner like you.

And as for your "people like me" - they really don't like you. They barely tolerate your ignorant backwards ass.

Which "calvary" movie were YOU watching? Which scrappy group of outlaws were YOU thinking of as being the cavalry? You realize they WERE the big bad monster, right? The scrappy group of outlaws and misfits was the Sioux Nation, which wiped out Custer's cavalry pretty much to the last man. Enjoy your last charge! You won't be remembered fondly, but rather as a fool.

DT, thanx for the head’s up on the typo...got it.

for your self-delusions, ignorance of reality and downright pitiable inability to communicate. s’arright; as you can see, everyone understands. Sorry I can’t respond to your silliness, it just isn’t worth it and I’ve better thing to do.

Story, Ross Perot is a good comparison...only he had more sense and was more realistic! And no, you got it wrong, our little tin hat Hatriot’s latest tack is to pretend to be above it all; by voicing nothing but “pity”, he’s immune from dealing with ANY reality at all, so he doesn’t have to sweat his brain to deal with answers and stuff. Hey, works for him! Thing is, wastes the rest of our time.

Byte, I think the only plan the Damns have come up with is “let’s get OUT of this horrific hole!” They obviously aren’t too clear on how to do it, and Obama’s not helping, but I don’t look to any politician to be coherent in this situation—when it’s come at you from all sides, like what Dumbya left us, it’s not unusual to go and off in every direction. NOT that I’m excusing them, I just can’t help wondering how the Repugs would have done, had they the chance... for me, THAT’s the scary concept!
Quote:

If the parties want to have a chance at being free thinking and representative of the population
Gawd, is THAT what they want to do? Wow, I’ve been misled all this time; here I thought the intention of getting elected was to get rich, exercise one’s ideology by power, and play politics. Damn, I’ve got to pay more attention...

Mincing,
Quote:

impotent paroxysms of populist angst
Oh, my, I LOVE that verbiage...will have to save that one, it’s very eloquently concise

Story, I’d LOVE to see a viable third party...I know too many parties can be a mess, like in Britain, but I’m sick of these two. I’d like a MODERATE party...one which takes the best of both and makes it WORK! I know, sigh...

Oh goodie Mike, you’re giving me even MORE neat verbiage. Gotta remember the “Hatriots” and “poutrage”, those are goodies. Only I think “Hateriots” works better, since that’s what they seem to embody most...

He IS mildly amusing, isn’t he Story? He’s right, tho’, there are far too many humorous adjectives to use in describing the Hateriot nutwings, and they come to mind too easily. Fascinating how he doesn’t see the idiocy of their “candidates”—or does he, and is he just stuck trying to defend the indefensible? Maybe that’s why he’s hiding behind his bravado and pretending superiority...sad for him that nobody’s EVER going to take him seriously... At least he admits his hero-delusional mentality comes from watching too much TV and movies. Nice of him to finally be honest about it. Isn’t that the first step toward getting well? Understanding you have a problem? We should wish him luck I that.

Well, I can UNDERSTAND his narrative, but no, I can’t identify with it. Do you think he imagines himself as Butch, or Sundance? Probably Butch...Sundance was way too complicated! As to your last paragraph: “Despicable Me!!” GOTTA see that, actually looking forward to a movie, which hasn’t happened since “2012”.

Y’know, Mike, maybe their initial stupidity in calling themselves the Tea Baggers should have alerted us right off what to expect from that moment forward, y’think? And his misspelling is amusing—tho’ I doubt he meant it to be satirical; I have visions of him and his buddies in Gol’gotha chanting “God is great!”, “America is great!”, “God is America!”, hee, hee, hee.

But I think the Tea Hateriots DO like him, in fact I think they’d encourage him. He’s just the kind of blind RWA who is fodder for their ranks, isn’t he? He’d march right alongside them, tin-foil, three-cornered-hat on his head, lapping up all their baby-food babble joyously. He’s the epitome of what they want swelling their ranks...until they have to go home for dinner.

I don’t think he’s hilarious, actually...just mildly amusing at times and head-shakingly ignorant at others. But I admit he DOES give us fodder for some fun verbiage and IS amusing to make fun of. I think it might well be that he sits around thinking "what absurd thing can I say now that will get me attention?" Unfortunately he can't come up with stuff that actually pisses us of, just makes us laugh, but look how much attention we give him...
