This is the country's second full-sized humanoid robot, and was named after a warrior of ancient Persia. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took a look at Surena-2 recently with some of its 20 robotics researchers from Tehran University. This 45kg robot stands 145cm tall, and it walks slowly with the regular movements of the arms and legs, where researchers hope it will see action in performing difficult and sensitive tasks.

IMHO, I just think it's time the debate shift away from the idea that this is a stone age group of savages who need the beacon of our white man's burden and start more seriously discussing our new opponent as if it were Russia, Germany or Japan. I know this may be hard for those who think muslims are stupid monkey people, but of course I'm not talking just about us, I mean the media, the politicians, lunkheads...

Well, unfortunately being fanatically religious doesn't exclude the benefits of science. Next thing you know, advanced technology and world-slagging WMD will be possessed by a nation that believes in a godly cataclysmic end-of-the-world.

I've heard it's not so much the average Iranian is all that fanatically religious, they're a little like Turkey that way. Important national decisions ARE decided by a panel of leaders in religion, but I'd have to look into it to determine whether they're anti-western jihadist style religious leaders. They don't like Israel, but then, Israelis are starting to not like Israel, so that may not mean much.
