Hello,

I am having trouble putting into words just how preposterous this is.

America loves a winner!

And if an informant who helped us out is found beheaded, along with his entire family murdered, will you still find it "preposterous" ?

The Left never cared about the aftermath of our hasty and humiliating retreat from South Vietnam when Dems cut off the war funding. Jane Fonda's response when asked about the brutal bloody aftermath in South Vietnam and Cambodia, when Communists slaughtered and tortured millions of innocent people, is to simply say we should not have been there in the first place. She uses her ideology to blind herself the reality of what did happen. Tsk, tsk, she says...not my fault! She forgets that Democrats JFK and LBJ were the ones who escalated the war, going from just few dozen advisors placed there by Eisenhower, then up to over 500,000 troops sent there by LBJ. Fonda and the Left gloss over that reality as well, and wash their hands of any responsiblity for their actions.

This Wikileak thing is the same. For ideological reasons only, the Left seeks to undermine our efforts to fight Islamic terrorism at every turn. Now the ACLU is suing the Obama Govt. over its' use of drone planes to target and kill Al Qaeda leaders. That says it all for me.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I think that sometimes a person is so mired in their political opinions and ideologies that they can no longer see the world for what it is. Every face becomes the face of an enemy. Every shadow is a threat.

Sometimes I worry that the United States is becoming a landscape of such polarized opinions that the people who live here are incapable of interacting with one another in the same reality. Every stimulus upon the senses simply results in a pre-programmed reflexive response: Counter the Enemy.

Never mind that there is no enemy. There is no danger. There is not even any disagreement.

It's too late. It's war.

All the windmills become giants, and the charge commences. Not for any noble purpose, but for the simple hatred of the other and the desire to win.

I myself would feel terribly embarrassed, but it's almost heartbreaking. If I were to be honest with myself, I'd have to admit that even I am not immune. I wonder if we'll ever be able to break out of this terrible cycle, and learn to see each other and the world for what it is again.

PIZMOBEACH

... fully loaded, safety off...

This is what stood out to me :

"In the fiscal year 2010, the FBI's total budget was approximately $7.9 billion" That's a lot of freaking cool gadgets.

Anthony - I was going to start a thread about that same thing, that while Dems and Reps have never gotten along and even have always hated each other, it's Bush's legacy - not that he was a bad president or Iraq, but that he did the one thing a president can never ever do: be really, really hate-able. Because of that some Libs still hate parts of this country, still hate Reps with a deep passion, and Reps in turn, as is only natural, have ramped up their hate for Obama and the Dems.
I say it's time to break up the Union, and turn the Fiddy into a big Risk board and let the Left/Right/Neither start picking states.

Good post Anthony!

2 things:

1) We're not heading there, we're already there.

2) No one is immune from it, so don't beat yourself up because you're not an angel. We wouldn't be human if we didn't hold strong beliefs. It's all about how you deal with it, either calmly or irrationally.

Quote:

We have been told of phantoms and ideal dangers to lead us into measures which will, in my opinion, be the ruin of our country. If the existence of those dangers cannot be proved, if there be no apprehension of wars, if there be no rumors of wars, it will place the subject in a different light, and plainly evince to the world that there cannot be any reason for adopting measures which we apprehend to be ruinous and destructive.

Quote:

We are now told by the honorable gentleman (Governor Randolph) that we shall have wars and rumors of wars, that every calamity is to attend us, and that we shall be ruined and disunited forever, unless we adopt this Constitution. Pennsylvania and Maryland are to fall upon us from the north, like the Goths and Vandals of old; the Algerines, whose flat-sided vessels never came farther than Madeira, are to fill the Chesapeake with mighty fleets, and to attack us on our front; the Indians are to invade us with numerous armies on our rear, in order to convert our cleared lands into hunting-grounds; and the Carolinians, from the south, (mounted on alligators, I presume,) are to come and destroy our cornfields, and eat up our little children! These, sir, are the mighty dangers which await us if we reject dangers which are merely imaginary, and ludicrous in the extreme!

-William Grayson; June 11th, 1788.
From: Antifederalist #2.

This is not a new problem, nor a new story, Anthony, these people have always been with us, it's just that you are now seeing them, and the fools they manipulate to loft themselves into power...

For what they really are.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Well, the FBI thing is, in my opinion, only worth responding to with "Sigh...well, we all know about the FBI", and nothing more.

As to the rest: Are you saying we should have stayed in Vietnam, JS? I find that an amazing stance. I think Fonda was right that we shouldn't have been there in the first place; I don't think anyone has forgotten that two Dem Presidents made it what it was, just as one Repub Prez made Iraq and Afghanistan what they were/are, when if we did anything, we should have been concentrating on rooting out Al Qaeda and nothing more.

Anthony, I agree whole heartedly, and as JS said, "we're already here". I think in current times it's hard to be objective and dispassionate for anyone.

Pizmo, I disagree. To me it's more a result of the last eight years and the resultant destrucion of our civil rights and moral fiber. As I've heard so many pundits say, "When one side loses power, it tends to go even further to the extreme". So the right went further to the extreme, to such a point that it has become virtually personal to them; I see MUCH much more hate mongering from the right than I do from the left these days.

I think it's more the LEFT's response to the right's extremism which is causing the divide to grow worse and worse. I didn't "hate" anyone after Dumbya left; I just prayed we could get a government that would back off the things he did. I didn't get it, but personally I think it would have been worse under McCain.

But the Republicans determining to be the "Party of No", has bothered me a lot. The lack of willingness to engage, compromise or do much of ANYTHING except demonize, inflame and block has been hard to watch, and yes, it makes me angry. But I still don't "hate" anyone on the right per se; I'm disheartened by them and some I consider many of them as being brainwashed into acting against their own best interests. As to the Republicans in the legislature, I absolutely ABHOR what they've been doing and saying, but I recognize it's politics...I'm just sad they've been so effective at it.

I don't see the widening gap as being created by Obama; I think his actions have shown quite clearly that he's bent over backwards to try and accommodate the right, to reach across the aisle (way too much for my taste!). There is no compromising with the Republicans in the legislature, they've made it abundantly clear that they intend to fight even measures they once agreed with and in some cases PROPOSED, prior to a Democrat becoming President. How do you reason with or compromise with that?

I don't feel hatred, much more I feel frustration; both with the Republicans in the legislature and the Tea Partiers hatred, hard-right and weird fringiness. All are bad for the country, in my opinion.

Frem: Gorgeous! I guess it’s always been there; fear is a fantastic motivator, and politicians have known it from the beginning. What a shame it’s so effective...
