Hello,

I frequently see stories like this. Stories that seem like a virtual advertisement for a product or service.

Do newspapers/news websites/tv news shows get paid for this kind of promotional 'story?'

If so, is there a way to see which stories are bought, and which are actual news?

I'm afraid the only way to determine what's "bought" is to look for the story elsewhere and see if it coincides. There's no caveat and it's all too easy for "journalists" (I use the term loosely) to favor something that is to their advantage. Sad but true.
