Nancy Pelosi, house speaker, wants investigation into Ground Zero mosque opposition funding

America loves a winner!
Quote: Nancy Pelosi wants some answers. The house speaker is calling for an investigation into groups protesting the building of the Ground Zero mosque. "There is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some," she told San Francisco's KCBS radio on Tuesday. Pelosi added that she joins "those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded." Many Republicans have said they are against the building of the mosque, and have demanded Democratic candidates and incumbents to publicly choose a side. The GOP said it will keep hammering the issue in a drive to take back Congress. "It's important to voters right now," Tory Mazzola, spokesman for the National Congressional Republican Committee, said. Pelosi is one of few House Democrats to make a statement on the mosque. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) broke from the president on Monday and said the mosque should be built "someplace else." The move occurred shortly after his Republican opponent Sharron Angle asked where he stood. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has previously said an investigation into how the $100 million project is funded would be "un-American." Pelosi said the matter is a "zoning issue" in New York City and would like the matter to be determined by city residents. She said the issue might be "ginned up" in order to help Republican candidates. "In New York, I'm sure the New Yorkers would like to make their own urban development decision themselves," Pelosi said. Quote: Some are asking why the Imam who is behind this Mosque isn't speaking out more. Why isn't he? Why SHOULD he? Why in the world should Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf insert himself into this controversy when he has the Mayor of New York, the President of the United States, the New York Times and so many others arguing the case for him? If I had that much firepower behind my plans I would lay lot too! Since the Imam isn't talking about the Mosque ... maybe you can just rely on some of the things he has already done and said. Perhaps you might like to consider the support he has shown for the Islamic terrorist organization known as Hamas. Maybe you might even want to read his book. In America his book is titled "What's Right with Islam is What's Right with America." Or maybe you might like to read that very same book in Arabic! They didn't use the same title .. the book is the same, but the title is different. If you get the Arabic version of the Imam's book the title will be "A Call for Dawa from the World Trade Center Rubble" Now the only part of that phrase you might not understand is the word "Dawa." So let's replace that word with one that infidels will understand and re-state the title to the Imam's book: "A Call For The Spread of Islam From the World Trade Center Rubble" Yup .. that's the guy behind the World Trade Center Mosque! That's the guy your taxpayer dollars are being spent to fly around the world on some sort of strange diplomatic mission. A Muslim Imam who wants to gather Muslims in the rubble of the World Trade Center to pray for the spread of Islam. How very wonderful. Now remember .. a part of that rubble was the very building that is going to house this Mosque in New York City. The landing gear from the aircraft Muhammad Atta flew into Tower One crashed through the roof of the building in question. Who knows? Maybe they've saved some rubble from that very building to enhance their prayer for the spread of Islam experience.

Quote: Ailing 9/11 responders slam President Obama: Focus on Zadroga health bill, not Ground Zero mosque Ailing 9/11 responders slammed President Obama on Tuesday for sounding off on the Ground Zero mosque while keeping silent on a $7.2 billion health care bill. "Why have you failed us? We thought you would be our champion" in pushing the legislation, John Feal wrote to Obama. One of the thousands who worked at The Pile after the World Trade Center attacks, Feal heads the Fealgood Foundation supporting the responders. The plight of the Ground Zero heroes, still suffering and dying from illnesses brought on by the toxic cloud over the twin towers' ruins, has taken a backseat to the political posturing over the mosque, Feal said. The mosque's location "is not an issue for us," he told Obama. "It is disturbing that you have the time and energy to speak in favor of the mosque, but not on the health crisis caused by the attacks," said Feal, who lost part of a foot when a steel beam fell on him during cleanup work. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens), who has worked closely with the responders on the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, seconded their complaints about Obama. "While I welcome President Obama's comments on religious freedom, I can understand why John Feal and his fellow 9/11 responders would want to hear that the President supports their cause, too," Maloney said. Quote: A bill that would have provided up to $7.4 billion in aid to people sickened by World Trade Center dust fell short in the House on Thursday. GOP critics branded the bill as yet another big-government "massive new entitlement program" that would have increased taxes and possibly kill jobs. To pay the bill's estimated $7.4 billion cost over 10 years, the legislation would have prevented foreign multinational corporations incorporated in tax haven countries from avoiding tax on income earned in the U.S. Bill supporters said that would close a tax loophole. Republicans branded it a corporate tax increase.
Quote: In the same week Americans commemorated the fifth anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks, and less than two weeks after the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Congressional Republicans in Washington are again blocking Democratic efforts to fund improved communications for our nation's first responders. The Washington Post reported today that Congressional Republicans are blocking the $3.1 billion in funding for our first responders, despite well documented accounts of how "the inability of police and firefighters to talk by radio was a critical factor" on 9/11 "according to the Sept. 11 commission." This stunning failure comes despite the fact that the 9/11 commission cited this as a key failure in the response to the September 11th attacks, and after the same problem contributed to the disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina. But Republicans dropped the "$3.3 billion over five years in interoperable communications grants" earlier this year from a Senate bill to overhaul FEMA, and Congressional Republicans are now fighting to stop the funding and "over jurisdictional" matters. “This stunning report shows how Bush Rubberstamps like Senator Mike DeWine have made America less safe by failing to stand up to the President and his failed agenda. After twelve years in control of Congress, after the 9/11 commission recommendations, and after the failed response to Hurricane Katrina, Republicans shouldn't need another national catastrophe to give our first responders the tools they need to save American lives. Democrats offer a new direction that offers real security, and real support for our first responders."

Quote: Q: Governor what’s your position on the controversy surrounding the Mosque near Ground Zero? DEAN: I gotta believe there has to be a compromise here. This isn’t about the right of Muslims to have a worship–or Jews or Christians or anybody else to have a place to worship where— anyplace at Ground Zero. This is something we ought to be able to work out with people of good faith. And we have to understand that it is a real affront to people who lost their lives, including Muslims. That site doesn’t belong to any particular religion. It belongs to all Americans and all faiths. So, I think a good reasonable compromise could be worked out without violating the principle that people ought to be able to worship as they see fit. http://chattahbox.com/us/2010/08/19/howard-deans-opposition-to-ny-islamic-center-affront-to-religious-freedom-audio/

You intentionally have misrepresented Kwickie's babbling ,idiotic, false interpretations and comparisons with any measure of 'eloquence and logic'. I love how this issue continues to unfold, all because Barry had the incompetence to shove his foot fully into his mouth, that the nation is getting more and more furious. Add to that, how you few sycophants are still clinging to utterly misplaced ideals of " fairness " and "tolerance ", where they absolutely do not apply. As more and more see this Mosque ( and that's exactly what it is ) issue for what it truly is, a symbol of conquest and victory over the West, on the rubble of the WTC, you only isolate yourselves further and further. Just like Barry Imam Obama. There's no fixing stupid, and you folks are flat out broke.

Quote:Originally posted by Niki2: Quote:Muslims praying at the Pentagon only proves my point, again. They didn't build anything that wasn't already there. There is no "new " mosque. It's the Pentagon, not a stand alone structure. Incorrect in all statements. The Muslims have had a mosque near Ground Zero for 30+ years, they are REPLACING the structure with a new community center which happens to have a room for prayer. No "mosque", no minarets, no outside sign that anyone prays there. There, as well, there is no "new" mosque; they want to build a community center with one room devoted to prayer, exactly like the room in the Pentagon where they can pray. You claim “straw man” arguments when you’ve made many yourself; and the fact that people have the right to build on their own land, AND to pray within that building, is in no way a straw-man argument.
