I'm glad to see them pointing this out, but I'd like to see them ALSO offering what THEY plan, not just negative advertising:
Quote:

In a bid to woo what it sees as the “sensible center” and prevent massive losses in November’s election, Democratic officials released a new video as part of an effort to focus voter attention on Republican candidates with "tea party" ties espousing positions that appear out of the political mainstream.

The Democratic National Committee on Friday released a YouTube video entitled “GOP Tea Party: These People Could be in Charge.”

It is a compilation of news clips featuring statements by eight Republican candidates for governor, US senator, and member of Congress. They include tea party standard bearers like Senatorial candidates Rand Paul of Kentucky, Sharron Angle of Nevada, Linda McMahon of Connecticut, and Joe Miller of Alaska.

In the three-minute video, Ms. Angle is described as favoring the phase out of Social Security, Mr. Paul struggles with an answer on civil rights legislation, Ms. McMahon talks about 2 year-olds watching violent wrestling programs produced by a company she owns, and Mr. Miller is said to feel unemployment compensation is not constitutionally authorized.

The video ends with the tag line: “The Republican Tea party 2010. Imagine, these people could represent you."

Mike Allen, author of a widely read daily summary of political developments for Politico, dubbed the Democratic approach a “nuts and flakes” strategy.

Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, put it a bit more tactfully in a speech he gave Friday at the National Press Club.

“Conspiracy theories, rants – there is certainly an element of the electorate that is charged up by that,” CNN quoted Representative Van Hollen as saying. “But again, I think it is a turn off to the sensible center and the people who constitute the key independent voters in these swing districts. They see that kind of stuff and they say, ‘we don’t want to go there…. These guys are way off on the right.' "

While I'm glad to see them finally pointing out the obvious, I don't know how much effect it will have, given their own weak position. I actually don't care who's got control of House or Senate too much, but I hate the idea of the power these nutbags will uilize if they get in power. I don't think they have the welfare of the American people at heart, I think they've found an open door in which to slide and are making the most of it. I also think that the people who vote for them are going to be pretty disappointed if they get in office, by what they will attempt to do.

Voting against one's best interests out of emotion isn't necessaril good for one. If they get ENOUGH power, Social Security, Medicare, and numerous other things I believe are good for Americans may well disappear. If so, how are all those who cried "don't touch my Medicare/Social Security/etc." feel? Not to mention how many would feel if they got their way on other issues, like church and state, pulling out of the UN, abolishing the Dept. of Education and unemployment benefits.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

This is a horrible commercial.

Besides being too long, it has no message other than trying to generate distaste for the opposition.

While attempting to do that, it actually made me interested in Ms. Angle, and it made me fear the Democratic party as they tried to demonize one candidate for being in charge of a professional wrestling program (?!?)

I am increasingly distressed with the constant missteps and ineptitude of the Democrats. Their whole platform seems to be, "We'll screw up somewhat less than these guys. With the right magnification equipment, you can see the difference."

Color me uninspired.

Negative adds always turn me off. I want to hear what solutions they have and not the problems of the other candidates. Most of the add is drawn from the media. Let the media deal with negative issues.

That's bloody hilarious, in a sad, pathetic, sorta way.

I agree, Anthony, which is why I said I hope they're ALSO airing ads speaking to what THEY would offer in contrast. I hate negative campaigning too, but we always see it and it's effective, which is a sad statement.

In this case, DO look into Angle. They barely touched on her, the more you find out, the lower your jaw drops to the ground!

I do, however, along with Frem LOVE your take on it, it's funny and (unfortunately) right on!
