... that the "Right Wingers" who post here never create thier own threads... but just post in threads by other folks? Over and over and over and over and over? Folks who are, shall we say, liberal by leaning.

Yea... it's annoying. Some moderators out there in cyberspace have a name for this behaviour... can't quite recall ...

You gotta wonder what motivates 'em. I like to post on this board because A). I think I have something unique to contribute to the conversation, B). Writing helps me to clarify my thoughts, as does the often very thoughtful feedback I get and C). Sometimes I just want my voice to be "heard." Oh, and sometimes I just want to join in the festivities!

But why would somebody singlehandedly take on all comers in the kind of arid, cybernetic battle royale that seems to flare up on this board so often of late? Certainly, after the umpteenth itteration of your point in your 16th post you can't be contributing anything new or unique. And I don't see any of these lone gunmen refining their points, or getting any more lucid in their 20th post than they were in their first (oftenner than not it's the other way 'round, with them sputtering and calling everyone "mentally defficient" and leaving in a huff). And you ain't gonna tell me that this is their idea of fun.

And politically, you're right Ghoulman, all these fellas (don't think there're any girl gunmen, but I could be wrong) are rather to the right of center (oops, of course any number of them could drone on for untold paragraphs explaining how they're centrists and the likes of you and me are strictly lunatic fringe elements, you know--break out your tin foil hat and all that).

While I consider myself almost dead center, I feel I am rightist as compared to most people here (on most issues... there are some where I'm even far left of the democratic party... inquire within). I personally don't feel the need to start a political thread here. Plenty of them are already floating around. It suits me fine to lurk between them and post when I see something worth saying.

On the posting over and over and over claim, I've seen that from both sides. Degenerate namecalling is a long held and lowly regarded tradition that, unfortunately, I'm not sure will ever be truly eradicated from political discussion. Oh how I long to see a true statesmen run for office...

As per usual... just one mans opinion, feel free to tear it apart.

I seem to recall a thread about 4 or 5 months back started by HowdyRockerBabe (sp?) asking something along the lines of "do you intend to vote for Bush?"

What followed was a really, really nasty, convoluted and generally hateful thread. I tried to make thoughtful points but as one of the posters above mentioned it pretty quickly degenerated into name-calling and sentence by sentence rebuttals with specious arguments. It got so bad that eventually HowdyRockerBaby (who seems to me like a really sweet and sincere human being) apologized for starting all the dissention.

Eventually I gave up on the thread and stopped coming to this board for a couple months. And that ladies and gents is the problem. I got turned off because I tried to post rational and thoughful comments and became disenchanted when I didn't convert anyone.

How does the old joke go? "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig." That's where I'm at now. I'll post simple responses but I'll stay away from the religious and political discussions. You'll never change someone elses mind.

Besides, all it does is annoy the pig.

Niiicely put.

Now, the people I get mad at are the ones who just repeat over and over what they heard from thier Right Wing overlords. Parroting an opinion will not cause me to take a post seriously. Just because you copy and psted the opinion of Rush Limbaugh or C. Hichens isn't going to make me respect a post. If anything, I'll take it as the lame trolling it is.

Actual conservitives are welcome.

I love it when "they" call me a liberal and such. I wonder if they would be shocked to know I almost voted conservative this year (just couldn't do it because of Harper)?

But there is just no room for the kind of blind, stupid, crap repeated on CNN and FOX anymore, not to mention terrifically right wing articles we see in Newsweek and various other US papers. You know, not even the New York Times pointed out to America that Iraq has no nuclear plants or "stuff"... but every country near them does! Sooo, why attack them again? Now, this is SO crazy, so "wag the dog" that the rest of the world certainly noticed. Sure, there ar eother points, but the ABSENCE of this easy fact in US news reporting is HIGHLY suspicious. Americans should demand thier 5th Estate!

Right now, America is a big joke. Defending that postition isn't even tenable in the USA anymore! The evidence (sparce though it is) simply points to one conclusion... the White House lied to the American people to justify a completely illegal invasion of a sovereign nation.

And things are getting worse for the USA. Things will get worse still.

So here on this BBS we have seen a certain few, and I do mean few, who use allll thier time to "debunk" anything posted they don't like. Anything thier Right Wing Overlords don't like certainly. Seems these Bushites don't have minds of thier own. I love how HC points out that it simply doesn't take 15 posts to show your point. Too true!

Bubba Clinton sticks his cigar in the wrong place and he is the devil incarnate in the USA and almost impeached right out of office after a successful two terms while Dick Cheney and his White House pull the USA into it's worst and completely illegal times since the Vietnam War (excuse me, Conflict)... and they aren't even questioned. At least not one at a time lol!

Ahhh... well (I'm thinking), understand that it's a "troll". If this BBS were moderated that simply would not happen.

Since this forum is NOT moderated, one must defend oneself.

Which is why I've no problem telling people where to go. I HOPE I don't mistake an honest opinion for "the party line". So far, I think I'm doing pretty good. I've only told two people to, er, frell off. I think I chose well.

Oh, and that Doran guy, but only because he posted in each of my threads with rude remarks. Personally, I've no problem telling someone who calls me a "commie, whatever" off.

So it's a battle. You can play or not. Now, I am aware that the Bushies use a fundamentalist tactic when it comes to thier propoganda... they shout as much as possible and as loud as possible. That's why they constantly post over and over. They just want to drown out others opinions with an avalance. It's an old trick and considered completely nasty. You know, I've love to hear lots of opinions but these bozos make people afraid to post. It's the same thing Nazis did in the beer halls. Nasty!

So I will not back down. I WILL give them shiet. I will slap text for text down. Fight the good fight!

Personally, I want to take the dragon!

I don't 'do' political discussions, being an anarchist (ergo, a race to rock-bottom chaos is BOUND to ensure should I participate )- but given your discussion there is a bit from old Mark Twain you might find very interesting there folks, no matter which direction you lean it.

Do a search for Mark Twain + Loud Little Handful on the net, and I am sure you will dredge up the bit in question.. I forget the exact place and title, but it was a very applicable bit of work you might very well enjoy.

Victory of the Loud Little Handful
by Mark Twain

The loud little handful - as usual - will shout for the war. The pulpit will - warily and cautiously - object... at first. The great, big, dull bulk of the nation will rub its sleepy eyes and try to make out why there should be a war, and will say, earnestly and indignantly, "It is unjust and dishonorable, and there is no necessity for it."

Then the handful will shout louder. A few fair men on the other side will argue and reason against the war with speech and pen, and at first will have a hearing and be applauded, but it will not last long; those others will outshout them, and presently the antiwar audiences will thin out and lose popularity.

Before long, you will see this curious thing: the speakers stoned from the platform, and free speech strangled by hordes of furious men...

Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.

Mark Twain, "The Mysterious Stranger" (1910)

---------------------------------------------
...The beauty of things was born before eyes and sufficient to itself; the heart-breaking beauty
Will remain when there is no heart to break for it.

Why are so many people bashing liberals? I'm a liberal, to a certain extent. As in, I believe that the government should stay out of people's business, and stop making laws that limit freedom, instead of protecting it. I think most people, though, just don't feel like creating a bunch of useless threads to debate tired subjects; it's kind of like thrashing a deceased equine post mortem.

Because the Republicans send out faxes, info sheets, and "items of conversation", to thier members which outline to them what they should think and say.

They were told to discredit any dissedent opinion as "liberal" and "unamerican".

The Nazis did it this way too. Just take out "Jew" and put in "liberal".

Well, I created about half of the threads here and they attracted lots of attention... especially from the right wing liars. Since no one agrees with thier lies they feel the need to post in other peoples threads and troll opinions they don't like.

Oh, and then they lie about it (see post above).. it's TEXT! We can go back and read what was said! But they don't care if they are lieing, they just want to troll those people who actually give a rats ass about the US of A.

Not to mention the death and slaughter in Iraq. Iran soon to follow, because a nation growing to democracy must be destroyed by the USA, Jebus save me.

Well, I suppose I would be considered a "right winger" by you, hell, you've called me one on multiple occasions. Why don't I feel the need to start a thread?

I suppose the answer is fairly simple.

The purpose of threads, (at least on every other BB I have visited) is to discuss a topic or an issue. Ghoulman, it seems, has a strong desire to bring forth issues that appeal to him, and that is fine. However, he apparently doesn't wish the "other side" (though I don't consider myself on that side) to respond at all. I have tried on many occasions to respond with a differing perspective and have gotten little in the way of respect for my opinions or a well thought out response for my troubles (certainly this isn't the case from all posters, there have been some very eloquent and thoughtful posts on this forum on all sides of the political spectrum).

More often then not I have been targeted for my responses, and been accused of hijacking the thread, (which is something I personally feel is odd as I view a topic as dynamic, changing with each post, response, etc...) or over posting when I wish to take the time out of my day to respond to indiviual points made by others, which is just something that appeals to my nature I suppose. I want to be thorough and address them if they have taken their time to address me. Granted I doubt that it will matter in the long run. People will hold to their conceptions of reality no matter what, really.

The most ironic thing about this thread? Ghoulman, (and I really don't want to pick on you, bud, but you just have a habbit of getting my goat with what I view as hypocrisy, sorry) keeps saying that he hates those "right wingers" that get their orders from their superiors, the Rush Limbaughs of the world, and yet he apparently follows an agenda that would be certified and stamped for approval from most any "leftist" spin doctor. Consequently thats where many of his posts come from, articles written by leftist spin doctors. Now, before I get jumped on, thats not to say that there aren't right wing spin doctors, or that they aren't just as wrong and just as prevalent as any other, but one would hope that in the pursuit truth you would want to get the entire angle and not limit yourself to any one.

Anyways, again, sorry for "hijacking" this thread. And if you want an even more simple answer to this question its simply that I can't bring myself to start a thread that would needlessly cause debate, that usually ammounts to nothing more then copy/paste jobs and vitriolic name calling on both sides, amongst Browncoats, people I consider friends. Doesn't seem worth it to me. Maybe other Browncoats think otherwise, but I don't.

I don't care, I'm still free.

They? Delusional? It seems to me that it is YOU that suffers from an "Us Vs. Them," mentality. As far as me being attacked, I think its fairly obvious by the abrasive, crass, and often crude language you have utilized in previous threads, or even in this one, to describe those that disagree with you, (myself included) that you had little less then an attack in mind, nevermind a rational discussion. SignyM, Rue, and HKCavalier take a far more rational, thought out approach to their beliefs and how they chose to share their opinions, and yet they share a similar platform to yourself. I suggest you ask them for advice, or just attempt to mimic their approach. Granted, no one mentioned above has the perfect approach, nor do I, or anyone, but they do a darn good job of it.

Then again, that would require rational discernment, something I am now quite convinced you are incapable of.

I'm just saying that the fact that it's normal for you or our kids doesn't mean it's good for everyone's kids. If we carry it to extremes, it's normal for 9 year olds in a few South African nations to pick up weapons and kill as mercs in their civil wars. By the time they're 13, if they're still alive, they're experienced as killers, rapists and thieves if necessary. A warped world, isn't it? But it's normal for them as much as we might think that their situation is disgusting. So, rhetorically speaking, should we expose kids here to that because it's normal there? (An unfair question, but you get the point.)

Not being moral police here, just asking you to remember to use few asterisks if you could. We'll know what you mean. I appreciate you're being understanding in your post.

-Peace

Hmm. Doesn't mean it's bad either! But hey *shrug* I'll try.

... hey, if Dick Cheney can tell Senators (in the Senate!) to "Go f*ck themselves", how will the children react!?!

Good point! LOL! Guess for some people like Cheney it's "Do as I say, and not as I do."

I've said those self-same words many a time to those that ticked me off, but unlike the Veep, I don't belong to a party that tries to force everyone to live their 'perfect' version of life and morality, so I don't have to pretend to be something I'm not. I just gotta live with the internal compass and dialogue.

Not saying the other side is better or worse, but I don't hear as much gospelizing from the Dems telling me how I can or can't live, and that's as I like it.

Ever notice there are a number of PAID propagandists who post on the Fireflyfans.net BBS every day?

Cites?

Oh, and to stay on topic, see my recently created thread "Authenticity of Bush Guard memos questioned"

Edit: Well, I'm not really a "right-winger" as identified in the original post as not creating threads, but I do play one in Ghoulman's fantasy world, so I guess that's close enough.

More proof of that accusation than your delusions, please. Besides, based on your own dictionary, I can't be a propagandist, since I'm not a committee.

I only troll the "Real World Events" threads. because it's funny. Like when I bed your mom. Or at least I was going to, but that dog of hers is just too fast for me.

Really?! Two questions:

1) Who?

2) How does one go about gettin' that job? Cause if someone's willing to pay me to get slammed for being conservative, I'll certaintly post more in the poli threads .

^^^ Anyone who graduated with philosophy or ethics will be offered this job. It's actually a large part of the job market right now. Keep in mind this method of using paid liars to post opinions online has been going on for years. Microsofts attacks on the Slashdot site are legendary (and they still do it). Which is why most real cybersurfers keep away from web sites. Too many marketing and think tank bastards who have no shame at all. Sick people with sick jobs.

You want a job where you can proudly say "I'm a liar for *blank*"? Yea, I'm so happy... no, no, I'm ashamed. Wouldn't you be?

Proof? Eat me.

Since Geezer posts the Republican position exactly in all his posts he can't be anything but a propagandist for the Reps. See, 'they' are the commitee part. Geezer don't have a position or opinion of his own, only his parties - thus it's all propaganda.

Jesus he's still going on about that. What a jerk!

I love to see a real conservitive instead of the sheep in the USA who pass themselves off as such.

Isn't McCaine a sad, sad figure?
