I think Rappy means that if Reps take power, they'll do all they can to rewrite history. Just like they've tried to recreate the obvious correlation between tax rates on the wealthy and the strength of the economy. Let's see: the top bracket paid 20-25% in the 20s. What happened after that? The top bracket paid 35ish % in the 2000's. What's happening now as a result?

The top bracket paid in the 80-90% (!) range in the late 40's, 50's, and early 60's. What happened in that era? Oh - ri-ight. America had strongest economy in the world is all.

Just one of the facts that will be overwritten by RapFacts(TM by Chrisisall) if the Republicans take power.

To follow up:

"You see if taxes are low, like 20 percent, as a partner in my small business I am motivated to take out our profits as income for myself. Let's say my share of the business led to $100,000 in profits. If taxes are 20 percent, I pay $20,000 and keep $80,000. I can live with that split.

But what happens when taxes are high? If I have to pay 60 percent, then I'm left with only $40,000 and the government takes $60,000. That sucks. I don't want to "lose" all that money. So, what do I do instead? I re-invest it in the business, so I don't have to pay taxes!

If at the end of the year, my tax bill is zero, then I pay zero. Instead, by plowing the profits back into the business I help to grow it and make it even more profitable down the road. I might even hire more people with the extra money I kept in the business because that's a lot better option than just handing it over to the government.

So, higher taxes don't lead to more investment and higher employment because I'm a liberal who likes to give away my money to the government. They lead to those good results for the exact opposite reason -- because I don't want to give away my money to the government.

Logic, you can't beat it. Unless of course you have a lot of money and you just buy off the whole system. And that's where we stand now, with the truth turned on its head. But the next time someone claims tax cuts help the economy, don't let them get away with that bald-faced lie."

The Bush era economy was far better than what we're faced with today, and you know it.

Low unemployment, high stock market. Thanks to the sub-prime Dems and Obamanomics, we're in a world of mess.

TARP was a great idea, after all, despite many who opposed it. Most Republicans admit it was a necessary, while virtually none voted for ObamaStimulus, ObamaCare, ObamaCash4Klunkers.....all bad, idiotic ideas which are killing this country.

It's funny to watch kwickie try to defend the worst President in US history since Carter, by trying to blame Bush.

Bush isn't running, sorry. You'll have to come up with another scape goat.

And since the real collapse started in spring of '07, the blame goes to Obama before he even decided to run for the presidency!

See, when unemployment topped 10% in 1983 - three years AFTER Reagan was elected - that was Carter's fault, because as they always tell us (when it's convenient to say so, anyway) that unemployment is a lagging indicator. So it took THREE YEARS for Carter's damage to hit (note: this was also AFTER Reagan cut taxes - yet before he started raising them again, eleven times in total!). Bush's alleged "four percent" unemployment never existed. The closest he ever got was 4.3% - the day he took office. And it started going up from there. Rappy likes to claim the "four percent unemployment" as being a BUSH accomplishment, but that would make unemployment a LEADING indicator, not a trailing one, since unemployment only got to 4% while CLINTON was in office, well ahead of the 2000 sElection of Bush by the Supreme Court (but not by the voters of America).

Bush left office with unemployment at nearly 8%, nearly doubling the rate on the day he came into office. Of course, the 8% number was again a LEADING indicator, conveniently.

Except that when unemployment went up after Bush took office, and after each and every one of the Bush tax cuts, it was claimed to be a TRAILING indicator.

RapFacts™ don't care about such things, though. RapFacts™ disregard and discard any information that doesn't hew to Rappy's worldview, in which only Democrats are to blame, and they're to blame for everything, all the time (unless it's something really really good, in which case that's all the Republicans' doing, even if they were against it, filibustered it, blocked it, etc.)

Rappy, what you've never figured out is that the country is where it is now BECAUSE of the previous 8 years. So many people warned you, but you just couldn't believe it. You still don't see how it's possible that you can cut taxes AND wage two foreign wars and still end up with enormous deficits and debts. You haven't grokked that part of it, even after all this time.

That comes as no surprise. After all, you're also the party who can't tell the difference between $18 billion dollars and a TRILLION dollars. When Dummy Rumsfeld said the Iraq war would cost less than $18 billion, you ate that shit up, despite other, smarter people telling you that it was going to cost more than a trillion, all of it borrowed money, and you called them liars and said they hated America. So now, here we are, more than a trillion dollars thrown down a hole, and you're complaining that it's all Obama's fault.

Bingo! But recognizing this basic reality would mean acting against RapFacts™.

(Did the ™ work? Woo-hoo!)

The thing I still haven't heard any of our right wing friends explain: we've had these tax cuts for the rich for many years now, and the economy is trashed, and there are no new jobs. So how does keeping these cuts suddenly do the exact opposite, and create new jobs?

It's like these idgets made us all stick our fingers in an electrical socket, and while we're all twitching on the floor they try to tell us that keeping our fingers in that socket will make the convulsions stop. Are we really that stupid? (OK, clearly the Rapster™ is.)

How to get your Golden Ticket© to RappyWorld™:

1) Tune in Rushbaugh AND GlenBeck at the same time.

2) Take a nice hammer and start hitting yourself in the forehead with it.

3) When both Rushbaugh and GlenBeck seem to be making sense, you've reached RappyWorld™. Enjoy the stay.

So now, here we are, more than a trillion dollars thrown down a hole, and you're complaining that it's all Obama's fault.

Bingo! But recognizing this basic realty would mean acting against RapFacts™.

Yes, he clearly IS that stupid. And it's not just that he wants us to keep our collective finger in the socket - he wants us to up the voltage! Clearly, the ONLY reason it's never worked in the past is because of those pesky regulations that keep us from being able to have 300,000,000 volts coursing through our home electrical system.

I really hope you were talking about the oversized, overpriced, now-extinct SUV. Although some of the recent love-fest between Rappy and KKKaney leaves room for doubt.

Oh yeah. I was picturing the insanely huge, overengineered, and wasteful vehicle bashing Auraptor in the head repeatedly, yet making no progress. (To be clear: I mean our beloved Rappy no harm, and none would be done in such a scenario. If reality can't break through that skull, how would a multi-ton vehicle?)

BTW, this thread's at 40+ hits in a day, and that's without the title character stepping in. That hasn't happened in a while, huh?

You always want to invoke the former presidents name as if it ever meant something. These events you refer to occured under a progressive congress....follow the trends of congressional power and you can predict prosperity. The mistake average people make is to think that the chief executive plays some real role in american prosperity.

The republican congress helped fuel the roaring economy of the 90's, Clinton had naught to do with it. Our congress changed in Jan 2007 and soon afterwards we suffered for it. When the congress changes again in Jan 2011 we can expect growth to be the result.

Hey, you might be onto something. After all, there were solid Republican majorities in the early 20th Century, leading all the way up THROUGH the Crash of '29 (clearly brought on by Republican policies, you'll no doubt agree). Democrats took over and dragged us out of the Depression, making us the economic powerhouse of the world - and then Republicans gained control of both houses again in the early 50s, for a little while, and promptly stymied all economic growth until they were ousted again, and things continued to improve.

Then, Republicans gained control of the Senate in '81, and things promptly went to shit, with unemployment rocketing up to over 10% by 1983 (Thanks, "conservatives"!), and driving us deeper into recession.

When Republicans again gained control, they promptly worked to burst the dot-com bubble and throw the country AGAIN into a recession (Bushites like to blame Clinton for this, and claim it was really HIS recession that Bush inherited, but thanks for placing the blame firmly on the Republican Congress, and admitting that President Clinton had nothing to do with it).

One thing DOES seem clear when it comes to who's in charge, though: When a Democrat is in the White House, the national debt is shrinking, and when a Republican is in the White House, it's growing - A LOT!

If GOP deficits are bad, then why do you tolerate Obama's ? They're far worse. Is it because he's dark skinned, that you're too afraid to criticize ?

Your logic does not follow. There must be some reason.

Erm, wait. About what income level are we talking here?

I don't think tax cuts help the economy... I don't think higher taxes help the economy. I think economics is either people trying to explain and predict a bunch of random numbers, or people trying to find fancy obfuscating ways to describe how to game the system. I'm not sure which it is, honestly.

In any case, what this point says to me is that economic scarcity (creating a smaller pool of income money for the average person) prompts investment. Not even going to try to comment if that's true or not, I don't know if it is. But... At some income levels my thinking is tax induced economic scarcity would seem to make an impact on living expenses. That can't be good.

No denyin' she's a rabid anti-corporatist, but then hey, so am I.
I want the government to treat us with respect. Which it does not now.
It forces me to *buy* expensive crappy insurance for health & car, it spends trillions on pet wars & not much at all feeding the hungry children of this world.
I believe in answers for problems- some of them can surely be "tagged" as Socialist. Others would be "tagged" Conservative... whatever.

But I ain't no Purplebelly.
