Hooo boy, bet THAT didn't go over too well with the locals...

Of course, I'm used to such insanity, a local UAW worker up here got into a bit of nasty with his co-workers about parking his "Foreign" Nissan (Built in america, by americans) in the company lot, next to "Real American" (Built foreign, by non union labor) cars...

Oh, they are a scream. It's not a "car show", nor necessarily even a show for "car guys". I'm a car guy, but my wife likes the show as much as I do - it has her screaming with laughter on a regular basis.

It's more of a "let's-use-cars-as-a-flimsy-excuse-to-see-what-we-can-get-away-with" show. :D

I had no idea they have 350 million viewers in over 170 countries. That's impressive.

That was pretty good - they could have done a whole show on them. 350 million viewers???

A clip from one of my favorite challenges - all 3 were given a small budget (typical) and told to build their own version of a motor home. Jeremy went for a 3 story modern look attached to an old Citroen. Of course, it was a bit top heavy...

Also, tons of "outtakes" from the show at youtube, some good stuff.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

And with episodes on every Monday night, people wonder how my DVR gets so full so fast!

And yes, the Veyron at beyond 250mph is surreal. I would never have any use for such a car... yet I'm still glad that it exists. Why? Because what was once the realm of the exotics and supercars becomes the AVERAGE in little more than a generation.

I don't imagine we'll all be driving econocars that go 250mph anytime soon, but I can remember when people kept claiming that their production cars would touch 200mph, and none of them ever would in any kind of official testing. Now it's not... well, it's not COMMON, but it's not terribly unusual, either. A Bentley GT will do it. Some Mercedes-Benz models can touch 200mph. Several Porsches can do it. One production Corvette can (the ZR1).

But it's not about going 200mph or more. It's about the systems involved in doing so. I've driven above 120mph in a car that wasn't really designed for it - it was scary as hell. I've driven 140mph in a car that WAS designed for it, and I was SHOCKED when I looked at the speedometer and saw that speed indicated, because by the stability of the car at that speed, I'd have sworn I wasn't doing more than 85 or 90...

I want cars that are stable at higher speeds, because they also tend to be quite a bit more stable at NORMAL speeds. :)

They put that HiLux truck through hell, and never did kill it.

They put it in the ocean. They dropped it on a building - and then demolished the building! The dug it out of the rubble and it started up. They dropped a building on it, too - and it of course started right up. The set it on fire, and it still ran. They hit it with a wrecking ball, a lot, and still it ran.

It's still mounted on their hangar wall, in a place of high honor, because it's the one car they couldn't kill.

I was sad to see The Stig outed, because I loved trying to imagine who he really was.

Actually, the US version premieres on Nov 21st, on The History Channel. The presenters are Tanner Foust, Adam Ferrara, and Rutledge Wood.

Keeping order in every verse

My favourite ever clip is the "Road Kill" challenge, where Clarkson ends up with a whole fucking COW on his roof. It makes me proud to be British. But, if you get to the end of the ep, you will see the ridiculous situation with US lawyers. The ep has a morally repugnant ending. They drive through New Orleans and basically try to give the cars away to some unfortunate victims of the Katrina Disaster. They are left dumbfounded by some prick who tries to tie them into some legal bullshit. Unbelievable!!!!

Frem, you'd love it - Wife and I just saw a Peel P50 (that tiny car that Clarkson is driving around inside the BBC offices) driving in Austin a couple weeks ago, on a busy street. "Tiny" doesn't do that car justice. It's the size of an Igloo cooler.

And yeah, Toyota should be right goddam proud of that HiLux. My buddy Jim had one for years and years. He went through three 4WD transmissions and a transfer case, and there were large holes rusted completely through parts of it, but the damned thing wouldn't stop running. Last I heard, he had over 390,000 on it, hoping for 400k. It's lived through a few Hurricanes, including Rita and Ike. It's been flooded, washed off the road, and damn near had a house dropped on it in Rita, but it still survives...

Oh my, oh dear... pretty sure most over-sensitive, easily-offended americans would shit a brick over THAT one, depending on when it was filmed.

Myself being of a much darker bent in humor, I am tempted to ask them if they too made the mistake of having Morton-Thiokol build their lift platorm...

Well, that and my mother owned a Renault Alliance, which I mentioned the soul-searing awfulness of a couple times, so anything that ends with a Renault in pieces is gonna give me the giggles anyway.

The little ole ladies doing handbrake parking was a scream too, although my granny woulda wowed em, she had this beat up black 1969 impala, and whenever she'd get into it with grandpa and go off in a huff to go "bowling" (duckpin bowling, which is a local thing, and done with the application of copious amounts of beer) she'd come flying backwards out of the driveway into a J-turn and lay rubber all the way down the street, which was kind of the signal for everyone in between Glen and Greenwood to GET THE HELL OFF THE ROAD, cause hot-damn she was comin through - no sense tryin to pull her over neither, local cops couldn't CATCH that damn thing and she'd have taken it as a challenge, not to mention no judge in town would do anything but wind up hiding under the bench from her sharp tongue and waggling cane, a holy terror that woman was.

Damn shame she's gone now, she'd have loved this show more than I do!

I was, of course, by my mothers directive, not allowed in that car whatever, which OF COURSE resulted in me sneaking outside to sit in it, starting a lifelong adoration of muscle cars - seriously, the old sideways speedometers had a coolness factor you just don't get today.

-Frem

PS - I think Chrisisall would LOVE the Botswana trip, it'd appeal to his road warrior fandom quite a bit, and I was much amused by the smugness of the Opel driver, heh.

Btw, eff you Mikey, for gettin me addicted to this.

I just rewatched the Botswana one, and followed up with their american trip from FL to New Orleans...

Us yanks being oversensitive and having a pissy, easily offended mean doesn't stand us in good stead with the Top Gear crew, not to mention showing the realities of america on film is kind of a faux paus of the greatest order - but *I* liked it, dammit.

Of course, it'd prolly get em lynched, and most certainly thrown off any of OUR networks, these days.

And good gawd, the pile of lawsuits which would land on them when they started revealing "american made" cars for the shit they really are, would kill the show all but instantly - since this is why no video game with licensed models is allowed to have realistic damage to them.

But curse it, I LIKE the show, and be damned to the easily-offended!

Clarkson is rather unbashedly a pro US basher, but I can't argue with any of it, just his manner sometimes. "You can't be American, you're not FAT." It's all pretty much like that, playing on the stereo types that we kind of deserve, "was that a murderers car?" and it is funny if you aren't too sensitive, works both ways. Which reminds me - have you seen the Detroit clip Frem? Clarkson in Detroit with one of the few American icons he actually likes and even owns:

Yup, out of all the supercars and exotics they get their hands on, Clarkson was impressed enough with the price/performance compromise on the Ford GT to buy one with his own cash.

Oh that's great, I was laffin my ass off in the first sixty seconds.

They really did a good job of capturing Detroit, the desolation, the ever present mournful howl of the Detroit wind.

And yeah, the GT40 is freakin awe inspiring, that and the Viper are where modern american carbuilding really shines, sticking to the muscle car roots, but taking it to the next level, if not far beyond, cause we're freakin nuts like that.

I think that's up by Darwin road he's driving on, which is even funnier given his Baazelbub references, cause a left turn and a little patience would have taken him to Hell, Michigan, rather shortly - and the roads down that way are paradise for a sports car run anyways, pretty, twisty, and EMPTY.

I can tell he REALLY liked the car too - although if he'd told the camera crew to lay low and hung around the casino district a while longer he coulda had some REAL fun when the heavily blinged rice rockets came out to play, but I figure the DPD woulda prolly threw a hissy... pity.

It's bad isn't it? My wife and I taped the BBC marathon that was on a month ago, and bought a dvd, AND downloaded 2 seasons, and we've been parsing out an episode a day trying to make it last. The Bugatti Veyron? 1000 bhp and 1.5 million US bucks, built as a PR car by VW (who bought Bugatti?) completely impractical, just to see if they could??

fwiw I want to thank CLJohston for getting me hooked - he posted a Reliant Robin clip here a while back and it got me to take a look... thx!

And the show is very useful for showing the differences between the US and Europe/World just in the cars we make. Seems like countries can't help but make cars that are mirror images of themselves. At the end of the Viper clip Clarkson says: "there's no doubt there is an appeal to the Viper... it's cheap, it's big on theatre and it's hugely exciting... can't imagine where they get the inspiration from..."

+ Europe = lots of tight, twisty roads, US = lots of wide, straight roads.

And I second your outrage - why can't we
A: build great cars, and
B: why can't we get those cool, cheap, great gas mileage cars in the states??

The answer is obvious (sell more oil, sell more expensive cars) - do you think the EPA and whatever other gov health and safety group are working to restrict these imports for the WELFARE of GM? and not the consumer? Just maybe???

The shits of it is, U.S. automakers DO make great cars - they just don't sell them here. The Opel/Vauxhall Speedster, Ford had a great little rocket with the Cosworth RS, and even with the Focus RS. Great-handling, tiny cars like the Ford Ka (even the name is tiny, like they shortened it from "Kar"!)... They're out there.

We keep being told that "small cars don't sell" - but there's often a waiting list to get a decent Honda, Hyundai & Kia are two of the fastest-growing car companies selling in the U.S., and Hummer and Mercury, purveyors of huge landbloats for years, are gone.

Which is, of course, bunk - firstoff you can't really GET a small car in the states, and secondly nobody is gonna pay the insane price.

I mean, here, 24mpg is "super efficient" and anything more you're looking down the barrel of an extra 10-20K ??!!

Bull Shit.

If the american automakers didn't spend so much time trying to push the car THEY wanted to sell you, and sold the cars people WANT, they wouldn't be in the fuckin mess that they are - not that there isn't a market for the $30,000 TWO WHEEL DRIVE penis extension for people who wanna pretend it's not really just a minivan...

But all I need, all I WANT, is a tiny little minimalist car which has enough room for a couple bags of groceries, gets good mileage and can reliably hit and hold 60mph, and has a simple design rather than some overcomplicated and impossible to repair lunacy.

But no, $13K for a SmartCar, which IMHO gets SHITTY mileage for what it is, one of my buddies cars, this ancient piece of shit four door Datsun510, got like 28mpg, and the fucking Renault LeCar got more than that!

If that damn VW Rabbit Diesel I wanted a while back hadn't been in such bad shape, I *would* be stomping even the SmartCar, at 45/57 Mpg, AND coulda run it on Bio-D, but noooo.

Or, I could pay $24k for a fuckin Prius, a flimsy underpowered deathtrap, as some folk learned last sunday to their peril on US23 when they went head to head with a Chevy Blazer - everyone inside the Prius was prettymuch instantly killed, and at first they couldn't even IDENTIFY it, cause there wasn't enough LEFT of it.

The closest decent option is the Nissan Versa, at about 12K, but it's still far more than I want or need.

Even if they DO get the Bluemotion here, they're gonna want $25k for the little fekker, which defeats the entire purpose of the damn thing - I can buy a goddamn brand new Mitsubishi Lancer for that, with options, AND have enough left over to cover the difference in fuel several times over, not to mention the ability to find a mechanic willing to work on it!

Here's a hint: if your itty bitty little high efficiency car costs MORE than 8K, then you have ZERO hope of selling it to the people who WANT one, cause you defeat the entire purpose of them seeking one in the first place.

-Frem

PS, Not only did my jaw drop at the Bluemotions 74mpg - I was grinding my teeth in rage at the notion they'll jump the price like that if they DO ship it over here.

I do not serve the Blind God.

Versa's good. The new Juke has some promise - same platform as the Versa, but with "funkier" looks and an added turbocharger for a bit of urgency, still around 17K.

Honda Fit is quite decent, but still a bit overpriced.

Honda really blew it with their CR-Z. They could've shaved 600 pounds or more and gone with a higher-performing gas engine instead of the hybrid arrangement, and they'd have been able to pull of better performance AND better efficiency. As it stands, they brought us a car that gets worse mileage than my '91 CRX, *AND* worse acceleration *AND* worse handling. All for a price of around $23-24K, versus the under-11K for a loaded-up CRX Si.

There's a very strong cultural difference in how we view small cars. Here in the States, we view them as "cheap transportation". Overseas, in Europe and Asia, they don't measure worth by size or weight. There were versions of the CRX sold in Japan and Great Britain back in the day that were sold as sporty personal-luxuty coupes, with features that were never offered here at any price: cruise control, automatic climate control, power windows, mirrors, door locks, full leather interiors, and a nifty full-panel tinted glass roof (not a sunroof - the whole roof panel was bronzed glass). Power comes via either a 130hp twim-cam 1.6 liter 4-cylinder, or a 160hp DOHC VTEC 1.6. (I actually prefer the 130hp engine, because it's a bit more "tunable", a lot more livable, and a good deal lighter to boot!)

http://www.shoden.org/images/cars/CRX/CRX_Exclusive_800.bmp

They're quite sought after now, of course. And old enough that they're allowed to be imported into the U.S. now without having to go through the onerous federalization process.

Somewhere, there's a happy medium between size and luxury - a small car that is fun to drive, economical, comfortable...

VW is doing something weird/interesting with the Jetta and it may be just what you're talking about.

It use to be their middle car above their fox, golf, beetle, and rabbit, but for 2011 it's their least expensive.

http://m.vw.com/hi/jetta/trims/s/basics/

$15,900

I don't know what that's done to the build quality, but the 2 I had were great little stylish runabouts that were put together pretty well.

I'm intrigued by the Jetta's downmarket move. All my VW buddies (I'm a Honda guy, but have several VeeDub friends that I hang with from our days racing each other) have moved on, and without exception, they've all gone to Subaru. Seems there's something about a WRX that reminds them of the best of the VWs in some way. Danged if I can figure it out, but it's like a "hive mind" decision, in that they all swapped loyalties within the space of a few months!

By the way, I think VW's move down the income scale is intrinsically linked to their recent takeover/merger by Porsche+Audi. VW tried a palace coup and tried to take over Porsche, and overplayed their hand, and ended up being absorbed by the (much) smaller brand in a rather shocking turn of events.

In truth, all three makers - VW, Porsche, Audi - were already linked in many ways, and shared many parts and facilities, but this takeover married them even more officially, and further enmeshed their connected futures and fortunes.

So, similar to what GM did many years ago when they positioned Chevrolet as the "entry level" maker, Buick as the "grown up" marque, and Cadillac as their luxury leader, with Pontiac as the rebel teenager in the family, VWGroup will be trying to position itself for market share and market future. A VW would be the car you get as the first new car you buy. Later, when money is better and family comes along, you move up to an Audi, and it feels familiar because it largely IS familiar. And when you hit it big or hit that mid-life crisis, you grab a Porsche as a third or fourth car, your weekend toy. They want customers from cradle to grave, like everyone else wants, and they figure this is the key to it.

In other markets, of course, they have other makers as well. SEAT, Skoda, etc.

And if you REALLY hit it rich, they'll be happy to sell you a Lamborghini, of course. Or a Bugatti if the Lambo isn't exclusive enough. ;)

But here in the U.S., they WON'T sell you a VW Lupo or Polo, or a SEAT of any kind. :( I see quite a few SEATs around Austin, up from Mexico. Ford Ka and Puma, too. And the occasional Dodge Ramcharger (it's the Dodge equivalent of the full-size Ford Bronco or Chevy K5 Blazer - bigger than the Durango, and built off the full-sized Ram platform).

I really like the Golf & GTI, though; they seem to have that right blend of sport and luxury in a small package. Now if they could just pull the price down on those models!

My first car was a hand me down vw bug from an older brother, zero flash but great for a first car. He and I have been pretty staunch VW people, while my dad was all Honda (reliable, etc), and my oldest brother... wait for it... was a Chrysler person. He was one of the very first proud owners of a Dodge Omni. I think the name comes from Chrysler's mandate for the Omni, "Make it ALL Bad!" I can even see the board room meetings with a lot of, "we can certainly make this cheaper," followed by a chorus of "yeah, lots cheaper!" After only 6 months you had to help the windows up when you tried to crank them, kind of typical of the whole car. You'd be riding with him and go to turn on the radio and he'd say, "yeah, doesn't work unless the door's open... electrical thing." In spite of this being pretty typical for their cars imo, they sold about 5 billion Caravans and changed US automotive history, which makes you wonder which is worse: American cars or American consumers?

Know what *I* think is hilarious ?

When one of them little rice burners is strutting their over-badged, flashy little rocket, sees me smirk at them and blip the throttle, and thinking they have a sucker in the bag, tries to make something of it.

*bares the fangs*

Cause sure, it's a 1999 Alero, the epitome of dull, dreary, uninspiring... and in most cases, underpowered.

But it's a fools gambit, it is, cause under that hood likes a 3.4Litre LA1 3400E, a third-generation 60-degree V6 which throws out about 170hp and 210Lb-Ft of torque, which even though it *is* an automatic, it's a GM 4t45E which has a damn good power range and backed up by a traction control unit which in combination with its tendancy to drop the nose when you stomp it, results in a 0-60 in just under eight, and a 1/4mile of sixteen flat.

Which is a right NASTY surprise coming from a car as old and raggedy lookin as mine, especially when it didn't look that damn impressive to begin with.
Doubly so since in the right hands, heh heh, that slight edge becomes a more like a chainsaw.

Worse, if they decide to take to the corners, then they're REALLY screwed, cause while mediocre in almost every other respect, the one hard edge that car has is its spectacular handling, even with the primitive suspension it has, the wide stance, chunky rubber, and ability to dip the nose and dig in with the merest tap of the brakes, allows even a car that heavy to pile it on through the corners since all the weight is up in the nose, and you can kick the back end out with virtual impunity and just power the damn thing over... in fact, it's one of the few cars which allows me to dig deep into my bag o tricks and pull off both the Snaphand (aka Scandanavian Flick Turn) and my "signature move", the Opposite Lock.

Funny thing, Richard Hammond tried to snaphand a Suzuki Super Carry (small van) on Top Gear once and put it right over on its side, heh.

Anyhows, most of the local riceburner crowd kinda avoids that car, cause it's really embarrassing to be shown up by a creaking, pushrod-powered fossil piloted by a crabby old hillbilly, innit ?

I love doing that. I took my beater CRX out yesterday just to tool around a bit, and ended up sliding around a few corners with the ass hanging out, dialing in opposite lock, front tires spinning, rears sliding, all four tires trying to gain traction, in a perfect little four-wheel drift.

And all my friends tell me you can't drift a front-drive car...

Reminded me of why I love those little cars - and why I need to sell 'em off before I get too many more tickets! :)

By the way, the G-Tech meter says the 0-60 is down to 7.1 seconds and the quarter-mile down to 15.4 - not too shabby for a mid-line "DX" model, when the top-line Si models (when new) registered 8.0-8.5 seconds (depending on who tested them and when) to 60mph, and 16.0-16.2 for the quarter.

Not too shabby for a 20-year-old riceburner...

One thing I picked up from TopGear that was new and really stood out for me was hearing about the Nurburgring:

I feel a Close Encounters, Devil's Tower need to go there.
Fwiw - after looking around I found Need for Speed: Shift for xbox, from 2009 (so it's pretty cheap now) that has almost all the cars from TopGear and, especially, the Nurburgring (that's the game the guy references toward the end of one of the clips) and it's worth every penny ($29). There's even a race on the full Nurburgring (10 minutes) between 6 Bugatti Veyrons... 240+ mph on that track even in a GAME is crazy.

Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2 has the full Nürburgring Nordschleife (the North course, or North Loop, as the old track is called). There's even a 24-hour endurance race you can run on it. Really. Twenty. Four. Hours. In real time. You can run the 24 Hours of Lemans if you'd like, too. Crazy.

There are sections of the 'Ring where I'd feel I was doing pretty well, and then I'd forget one of the 170-odd turns, and be off in the weeds, or spinning down the track.

As for realism, the course in PS2 is said to be accurate within a couple inches. You get wonderful features like the Karussel (Carousel) turn and the Flugplatz ("the flying place"). When you hit Karussel, you'll swear you can FEEL the suspension compress, the traction increase in the banked curve, and the car clawing for traction as it slingshots out of the curve.

Did you see the video of the woman tour guide who drives her van on the 'Ring? (It may be one of the ones you posted, as I think TopGear did a segment on her, but she's all over the 'net, too) It's bonkers. She's passing guys on sportbikes with her vanload of passengers, breezing by Porsches, Ferraris...

Gran Turismo 4 sounds like Need for Speed: Shift - same track, same features, except the 24 hours part - that actually sounds so nutty I would like to try it.

Yeah, Sabine Schmidt - she's in all 3 clips and the last one is the one where she's passing motorcycles and porsches in a van. She has this kind of cartoonie/Viking warrior woman expression that is priceless, "Get out of the Way!"

Well, problem with GT4 is that it's freakin boring.

I like racing games, but I am kinda funny about em, and I really don't like "entertainment" that makes me do a whole lot of crap I DON'T want to do, in order to get to the stuff I DO want to do!
(DO YOU HEAR ME, MMO MAKERS ?!!)

And GT3, and GT4, really chopped out most of what made the franchise palatable to me - sorry, pretty graphics do not a game make, and if there is no sensation of speed and power in most races, if your racing game is BORING, well...
Not to mention frustrating, challenging is one thing - but so MANY games put you in a position where you are always, ALWAYS stuck with inferior equipment/gear/skills, sometimes vastly so, and you know what the result of that is ?
Your game winding up on the $4.99 clearance rack at gamestop, rather than the beloved top shelf of a gamers collection!

Mind you, I did buy GT4 (and can you GUESS from where, hmm ?) and how the HELL could they make the baddest road course in history... BORING ?!
Although, I did have some fun with it in one case - the retro challenge on it, I put my B-spec driver in my 1970 Hemi Cuda and left em to it, sure you need to change the tires out every lap, but it's hilarious to watch an AI set up for slow, stately, traction controlled, brake balanced, hold-your-little-hand "sports" cars try to cope with the savage beast that is an old school american muscle car.

One of the things that also annoyed me is restricting races to only certain cars and making the classes so tiny and focused that it sucks all the fun out of it - especially when they throw in the catch 22 of not having any realistic chance against the one car IN that class you cannot obtain, because you have to beat that race to unlock it!
stupid. stupid. stupid.

As Top Gear shows, half the fun of it sometimes is tackling a race in a car wholly inappropriate TO it - if I wanna race a hopped up Fiat500R or Subaru360 against say.. a bunch of modern <100hp cars, I gotta go all the way back to GT2, which was, and still is, freakin awesome - cause it also has the flavor of scavenging something from the used lot, and hopping it up insanely, with full performance customisation, and putting it on the track, a feat that GT3 and GT4 have chopped out in favor of... I dunno, but whatever it is doesn't appeal to me.

While trying to hold a fully upgraded Nissan March Super Turbo on the track isn't, yanno... the most EFFICIENT way to race, damn me if it isn't a holy hell of a lotta fun - as was bagging up one of the endurance races in a 1971 Skyline GT-R KPGC10, or racing the unholy wonder (one of my favs) the 1982 Toyota Starlet, heh heh.

So few racing games cater to the "Fun" factor, which might appease the hardcore, but doesn't do a lot for the rest of us.
Mind you, I have most of em, so I'll toss out a couple from the shelf here...

XBOX
Test Drive: Eve of Destruction.
kind of niche game this, has a very (accurate!) redneckish flavor to it, if you want a taste of smash up, demo derby kookieness, this is your go-to game.

Juiced
has serious staying power, heavy on the fun factor, but the "respect" system is bloody annoying.

Need for Speed: Underground 2
pinnacle of the series, excellent immersion and fun factor - downside is small car list and ridiculous rubberband AI.

PS2
GT1/GT2
classic, GT2 in particular is a tuners delight, and allows for some wacky fun other racing games don't.

Xbox360
Split Second(?)
jury is still out on this one, but it's been neat so far - just that I had to get the RROD repaired and haven't gotten to fully explore it.

I think what really kills a racing game is, again, when you find yourself having to do crap you DON'T want to do, in order to do the stuff you DO want to do - even NFSU2 fails a bit at this, cause if I wanna race circuits, WHY should I have to Drift ?
(worse when they require this kinda thing to advance, cause you get to lookin at all that crap you DIDN'T want to do and skipped, and realize you'll have to spend an hour and more NOT HAVING FUN... and go do something else.)

Oh, and where the bloody HELL do you put a steering wheel if you don't use a proper desk (and even most of those) - since most gaming chairs or tube frames cost upwards of eight hundred bucks ?
Seriously, that's the one reason I don't have one, it'd make it a lot more fun, but not for no thousand bucks for the wheel and a tubeframe oh hell no.

I liked that I was still able to grab at least a 2nd-gen ('88-'91) CRX in GT4, and tune the hell out of it - but alas, not as much as you could in GT2 - and go out and beat the hell out of much snazzier cars with it.

I also liked that an awful lot of the tuning of the chassis, brakes, tires, and suspension was very realistic in the Gran Turismo series. I used to mess with it a bit in working on car set-up for the old first-gen CRX that I raced. Go in and play with settings a bit on the Playstation, and then go try similar setups in real life. It was really good at teaching me set-up, and resulted in a handful of class championships for me, against cars that people had ten times more money sunk into. :) It also led to spending some time wrenching on other peoples' CRXs and setting them up for racing, based on what they'd seen my car accomplish.

The modern definition of "socialist" is anyone who's winning an argument against a tea-bagger.

Mr. President, you're a god damn, mother fucking liar.
Fuck you, you cock sucking community activist piece of shit.
