"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I'll probably pick up a few Democratic enemies by doing this, but I'm writing to Sitka mayor Scott McAdams's campaign for the upcoming Senate race for the open Senate seat, and asked him to consider withdrawing.

Why?, you ask. Because he doesn't stand a chance, simply put. I don't mean that as a put-down, and I don't say it to anger anyone, or with any happiness in admitting that he's going to get creamed. He's down by 20 points or more, and Murkowski and Joe Miller are pretty much dead even. McAdams isn't going to close that gap, or anywhere close to it, by next week. He's dead in the water, and you can't lose a race you're not in, but you CAN pick the winner.

So I'm proposing that the best thing Scott McAdams can do for the Democratic party at this point, on a national scale, is to withdraw and endorse Lisa Murkowski.

Again, I sense my fellow progressives pulling away, shrinking in horror from such an idea. How on Earth could I advocate a Democrat quitting a race and endorsing "the enemy"? Because in THIS race, I believe Lisa Murkowski's the best thing going. She actually CAN win this thing, with just a little bit more support and one more good shove over the top. And she's proven in the past that she CAN work with Democrats on progressive policies and issues.

Will you join me?

Mike,

That's an eminently logical plan. Alas, political offices have a fairly solid reputation of not even opening out of state mail.

Probably right. Still, I have to try, just on the off chance that *MAYBE* nobody has thought to mention it to him yet.

No response from his campaign staff as of yet, but I'll keep trying.

Some races we can compete. Others, we need to face reality and work on triage. It's only logical.

Why don't you mind your buisness and stay out of the affairs of other states. The voters have a right to be represented on their ballot. Even if that clown has no chance and their votes are in the minority. What you are proposing is just as bad as gerrymandering. Just as shameless. That you are not even from that state and you would meddle in their election is diSPICable. Why don't you propose that all democrats from other states send in absentee ballots? I'd call what you are doing... cheating. You are a typical dem. Mind your own.

Miller wins anyway.

Miller may not win, as he's made some big blunders in recent weeks. I don't get you asking Kwiko to stay out of it. Why should he? The same idea has surfaced here in Fla, with many asking Meek to bow out so Crist has a chance against Rubio.

It's called politics, and it's normal. Don't fret, you'll get your pound of flesh soon enough. Personally, I'm hoping to see Obama impeached, along with AG Holder, right after the Congressional corruption trials of Rangel and Waters. Let the good times roll!

Then you should have no worries about what I do, should you?

And are you saying that nobody from out of state should have sent money to Christine O'Donnell, or endorsed her, or gone to Delaware to campaign for her?

Sorry, but it matters to the nation whether Alaska's next Senator is a sane moderate or an insane, hand-in-your-pocket radical like Handout Joe.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Amusing...in response to an interesting theory posited by Mike, all we get from the right is essentially "FUCK OFF!" How eloquent.

I heard a guy on the phone banks for McAdam say "the only way Democrats win in Alaska is if there are two Republicans tearing each others' throats out, a Republican candidate implodes, or is convicted of a felony." Gave me a giggle.

Miller is closing in on the latter, as more and more come out about him:
Quote:

Alaska GOP Senate hopeful Joe Miller was suspended for three days and referred to an employee assistance program after admitting to improperly using three government computers, then cleaning the caches to cover up the activities, according to personnel records released Tuesday under court order.

The personnel records were obtained by The Associated Press, the Alaska Dispatch, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner and the Anchorage Daily News, under open records requests and a subsequent lawsuit. Miller had until Tuesday afternoon to appeal the release, but chose not to.

Won't hurt him, I'm sure, but if more keeps coming out...

He'll probably take it anyway, dammit, as people have to spell Murkowski's name absolutely prefectly to write her in, but there's always hope. Miller would be a disaster, as would so many of the crazies running this time. I kinda wish McAdams would pull out too, but he's determined.

Time will tell.

Actually, I don't think that's 100% true. I heard the head of the elections committee (I forget his official title - probably the Registrar) say that if he can see that someone clearly tried to write in Murkowski's name, he's not going to count off for spelling. :)

Sure, as soon as you join my effort to get all the Democrats to drop out because they might be taking votes away from candidates more likely to win (ie Republicans).

Thanks for the vote of support, Jongs. It's all politics.

And yes, Kendrick Meek should bow out in Florida, too.

I'm so glad to hear that, Mike. I'd heard the opposite, but it's great to know that in Alaska they're more willing to be sensible. Here's hoping...

Yeah, every now and then I agree with you (wonder if there's a pill or somethin' for that)...
There was a 3-way debate last night and Meek did very well I thought. He's a fighter, but he's trailing miserably with only about 20%. He's certainly not going to quit now, because he wants another shot in 6 years. I can respect that because Crist is a flip-floppin' maroon who goes in and out with the tide; he's not worthy of anyone's support. As Governor, Crist's screw ups were not too bad, but he did sell out to the insurance companies in Fla., and that resulted in higher mandatory home and condo coverage. Seemed a little draconian to me at the time.
