Welcome to the AU thread!
Here, you can learn all about the man hisself!

First, he works for an undisclosed Alphabet agency with the mission of interjecting right-wing ideology and beliefs into a supposed left-wing-ish website. I think we can all agree that this is an EPIC FAIL, but then, if we were truly a threat to the ways of power & profit, would they have commissioned AU???

Second, he really IS a fan of Firefly, which has made this assignment both pleasurable & difficult for him. Love Mal, love Cheney- what a dichotomy to have to operate under!

Third- feel for the guy! He's forced to act like a jerk, while agreeing in his heart with the basic principles under which Mal & Co. are forced to work.

In the end, this thread is all about AU, and HIS needs, and what's best for HIM.

Give a guy a break.

Hmm... Is he RWED's Palin/Angle/O'Donnell: so deluded and moronic in his bigotry, so laughable in his attempts to support his blindly right-wing biases, that he only serves to energize the liberals and make the left look really, really smart and blessedly capable of reason?

Or is he a left-wing plant?

Who cares. The end result is the same.

Quote:

My 'bigotry'? Your humor needs much work.

My right-wing bias isn't blind, in the least. It's the result of careful, clear eyed and logical understanding of what this country was founded on, the freedoms inherent in every individual.

Some of y'all sheep only mock those freedoms, and the idea of freedom, thinking you're entitled to all manner of respect, goodies and right's to the lives and property of others.

Guess what. You aren't.

Chris.

I concur.

Rap works for Military Intelligence in Georgia. I suspect this strongly because they are a major employer in whereever GA he is, which he mentioned, and I look it up. Prior to that I thought he worked for a contractor.

Second, Rap's taste in fiction is much better than his taste in reality. I agree with you that he feels it necessary to take political positions that he probably is not 100% comfy with. I have to confess I've done it myself.

The truth is, I think each of us has, at some point, taken positions just to see what the reaction would be, or how people feel about a certain issue, if it's coming from your position. Many people thought I was doing this with distributism. I was testing the idea, but I was really genuinely surprised at the left response to the idea, which was not only friendly, but to try to own the idea. But I digress, sorry, this was about Rap.

I'll add that like many of us he has wasted far too much time in the "someone is wrong on the internet" trap.

To the contrary. I'm VERY comfortable w/ the political positions. What I think has you confused is the distorted views others try to paint me as having which are more times than not, 180 degrees from mine.

Their need to put up "personalized threads" is a ridiculous cry for attention and only shows them for what they are: pathetic. I'm sure Kane is next...wait for it...

I bow to their assininity as the best of same that we have here, but I pity the REAL right for not coming up with more coherent advocates.

Rap,

nothing comes to mind at the moment, I was thinking of something, but I actually don't want to go through posts trawling for trolling, so I'll let you fill me in.

My recollection:

You supported Bush maybe 80% of the time, and oppose Obama maybe 60%, and since I tend to think Obama=Bush, it seems...

Specifically, Things you supported that I opposed:
(Bush)
The War
Torture
Restrictions on habeas corpus
patriot act
this all falls under an authoritarian set

You didn't really support Bush on healthcare or bailouts, so I'll give you those, you opposed them then and now, and you don't oppose Obama on the war and dictatorship as above.

So, yeah, maybe I got nothing.

That's why the TEA party is so well accepted by REAL Americans. Those who know and love the spirit by which the Founders crafted the US Constitution. The Constitution and its Amendments don't mean a goddamn thing to these people. It's just a goddamn piece of paper to them, and a damned inconvenient one at that.

And this quote perfectly fits the right wing dogma. You and your fascist tea-baggers hate the Constitution, and loathe the freedoms which it protects. That's why the TEA party is so well rejected by REAL Americans. Those who know and love the spirit by which the Founders crafted the US Constitution know that the TEA party is a joke. It's the REAL history of this country the TEA Party movement hates, which is why the TEA party is mocked and ridiculed across this nation.

The modern definition of "socialist" is anyone who's winning an argument against a tea-bagger.

That Bush said that line is one of the more oft repeated fables of the Left.

Wake up, Neoisall.

While that might seem confusing on the surface, it is not an uncommon attitude in the South.

Take me for example. I'm from West Virginia. I'm proud of the Constitution, proud of Virginians who fought bravely for what they believed in what was a losing cause, and proud of the West Virginians who rebelled against Richmond to form the great State of West Virginia.

I note for the record that many states have a history of rebellion. The original 13, Texas, West Virginia, Rhode Island, and all of New England (who had in mind their own Confederacy at one point).

I have also previously explained that the Constitution does provide for leaving the union...in which case most states would revert to territories, not independent countries. Only states with pre-existing sovereignty could claim true independence. Texas, the 13 originals, Hawaii...thats pretty much it.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Bush saying the Constitution was just a piece of paper isn't a "fable":
Quote:

Last month, Republican Congressional leaders filed into the Oval Office to meet with President George W. Bush and talk about renewing the controversial USA Patriot Act.

Several provisions of the act, passed in the shell-shocked period immediately following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, caused enough anger that liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union had joined forces with prominent conservatives like Phyllis Schlafly and Bob Barr to oppose renewal.

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

"I don't give a goddamn," Bush retorted. "I'm the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way."

"Mr. President," one aide in the meeting said. "There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution."

"Stop throwing the Constitution in my face," Bush screamed back. "It's just a goddamned piece of paper!"

I've talked to three people who were either present for the meeting that day or had knowledge of what happened inside the meeting and they all says the President of the United States called the Constitution "a goddamned piece of paper."

http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_7779.shtml

Yes, of course you will say it isn't true because of the source, and because the three people who told him what they'd heard didn't dare go on record in a White House famouse for retribution. So I'm not talking to you.

But for others who might contemplate whether or not he said it, consider that at the time the conservatives WERE trying to caution him, he HAD alienated many by his usurpation of Constitutional provisions, and:
Quote:

I tend to think that no one would have wasted the time for even mentioning his comments on the Constitution in passing if there weren’t an already solid history in Bush abuses, flipping the camera man off, patriot act, Hitler like executive orders, yawn …. etc… so even if you don’t feel Bush could have said such a thing, take a look at the video and some of the things he has done to the Constitution and Americans in general.

amn-piece-of-paper.html

It can't be proven unless someone steps forth after they quit the White House and admits it; maybe someday someone will, but given the potential repercussions from anyone else they'd want to work for, I doubt it.

So it's no "fable", it's an unverifiable report.
