I'm not sure where else to post this so that it gets to the intended parties, sorry for posting personal, non-world event stuff on the RWED.

But in the future, I would appreciate it if I wasn't the subject of any dares. My gender on this board is irrelevant, especially because I'm both an asexual and an aromantic. I'm also paranoid, as I've said time and again, and pictures are an intrusion into the (likely imaginary) sense of privacy I have. And finally, I am uncomfortable with ANY flirtation, no matter who it's coming from, so a dare to use ME as a proof of "manliness" is ridiculous and invalid.

Anyways, thanks for listening.

You have no reason to be paranoid, but if you can't take a punch then don't come here, it gets pretty nasty. I like Kwicko cause he's a real gearhead, but he's also a lib that has no indoor plumbing and uses the Austin newspaper for TP

The past day indicates I have a very good reason to be paranoid.

But yeah, I know I have a thinner skin than most here. I try to game up, sometimes I don't always manage.

In fairness to the Austin newspaper, that really is all it's good for...

Re: Flirtation.
I know, it's why I go light on it, cause I know it makes you uncomfortable, some times you make it hard to resist though, for wholly different reasons that most folk wouldn't understand.

I will offer you the comfort of knowing I do make effort to respect your boundries, a courtesy I *am* willing to share when it is extended to me.

And since we're talkin about pics, and in reference to being called "The closest thing Anarchists have to a jackbooted stormtrooper", I feel the need to offer this one, which is every bit as ridiculous.

You'd actually like Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga, Byte, she's very much like us in her thought processes.

Byte, because you seem like you could use a hug (in a non-flirty asexual way), here's a video hug of sorts:

Byte, I don't know what all that's about (not been here since Friday), but one thing struck me: I think you do a fantastic job of holding your own, considering this place and what's aimed at you. Please never give up, even if you feel the need to take a break now and again; we need the saner voices here and I respect you!

I don't know what happened...maybe as I catch up I'll find out...but I'm sorry if you were upset and I hope you feel better.

The lion thing IS amazing, thanks Frem...Christian all over again. No surprise really; animals remember people, and it sounds like he was young when she found him. Love is all around, if we look for it and work at it!

Lion video -

I get that most of us want to attribute 'human' qualities to animals when we see them doing things which, to us, LOOK like what we do..... but man, that was really cool. I think the lion genuinely likes and appreciates that lady, for saving him, and not as a potential food source.

Now, back to your thread.

Certainly the way it looks and seems on that clip. If the lion wanted to maul her, he sure had every opportunity. And he had even more opportunity and reason when she found him abandoned and dying...

More on that lion vid.... we don't know in what condition he was in when the lady found him. Was he just in a bad way, or was he literally near death, unable to do much of anything on his own, w/ out the aid of his human friend ?

Now, it seems every bit like genuine affection here, and I have no doubt about that either. But too often humans project 'people' qualities onto animals . Yes, many animals, many mammals, at least, are intelligent, social creatures...but they're also hunters, and wild, simply going on instinct, w/ out any real intent to do much besides feed or protect themselves.

I love seeing a real life Aslan type moment here, but even those who work with and have strong bonds to lions or tigers can suddenly find themselves getting chomped on, in a moment's notice.

Absolutely about anthopmorphizing. From what I heard, she had him for six years...he couldn't have been full grown when she found him, so I'm betting she found him as a malnourished, dying cub. I forget the percentage of lion cubs who survive, but it's not high (tho' higher than cheetahs and leopards).

It would have far more to do with the six years together than that she saved him; animals rarely think like that. It's just like Christian; how many years did those two have him before they took him to Africa? Same stuff: Bonding.

Unpredictable, same with bears (only moreso, as they're more unpredicable). That guy who worked closely with them for years and years; then they killed him.

WOLVES, on the other hand, are rarely violent to people except in special circumstances. I don't mean wolf hybrids, they're dangerous and shouldn't be, but true wolves aren't as unpredictable as many species...no doubt one reason they joined our campfire. Go wolves!

When we owned our pizza parlor, our windows were festooned with environmental stuff, including wolves. As such, I met some of the "pet" wolves people are quiet about but which are owned all over. One HUGE male was fantastic...we walked out in their backyard, he charged at us and leaped right up on Jeff (who was 10 or so, so got knocked over) and nearly licked him to death, tail going a mile a minute. Pretty much the same as every other wolf I've ever met...I used to "play" with the ones at the SF Zoo...there was a hole in the bottom of the fence at the back of the enclosure...they had beat a pattern to it, and would race over there when I showed up, pushing and shoving to get at my hand. These weren't pet wolves, they'd been trapped in ranching areas and had to be put in zoos back then (before relocation was frequent). Go wolves!

I don't know about that. I mean, the cat certainly doesn't think: "Here is my savior!" But I think the emotion of being saved stays with them. They have a certain kind of neediness.

I have a feline I found as a malnourished little thing, maybe 6 weeks old and cold and hungry and totally afraid of humans. I lured him in with food, left him alone but kept him warm and fed, and after a few days he realized that I was mom and, suddenly, did pretty much what the lion above did. With a little less force.

My cat, who's grow a bit tubby and very complacent over the years, still does the huggy business at least every few days, and it's not just hopping on my lap and purring. Like the lion, this cat crawls to my shoulder, burrows his head into my neck, and holds on for some time. The other cats I've had over the years, who didn't come from a scary starvation place, are never so affectionate - forcefully affectionate I'd call it. This one kitty *needs* the reminder that he's ok.

Anyway, back to the original post. I don't know what's got you down Bytemite, and what "pics" has to do with it, but I hope that talking about cat love is a refreshing change. Hang in there, and enjoy a chaste, clean-smelling, contact free internet hug:

I'll concede there's validity to what you wrote; I've experienced it too with the one cat who was in a dire circumstance which I adopted. Certainly being "saved" at an early age could well make more of an impression than I think.

So maybe a combination of being saved, being treated well for six years, and six years of bonding interaction?
