This , folks, is why we had the election results we did yesterday.
To put an end to this sort of reckless, incompetent spending.

Quote:

President Obama's trip to India will cost the U.S. $200m-a-day, it was reported today.

The visit - part of a 10-trip to Asia - will take place amid unprecedented levels of security in the city of Mumbai, where terrorists killed at least 173 people two years ago.

Extreme measures to ensure the safety of President Obama will include the complete booking of the 570-room Taj Mahal Hotel for his security entourage.

The building saw some of the fiercest fighting between Islamic militant gunmen and security forces during the November 2008 atrocity.

Other precautions include the use of helicopters, US and Indian Navy ships to patrol the Mumbai waterfront and the use of sophisticated surveillance equipment..

Quick, do the math.... 200 million x 10 days = a mere couple of billion, give or take a million here or there. Talk about shipping jobs over seas !!!!

40 US airplanes will be used.

Over 3,000 ( yes, that's right ) staff, security and reporters will travel w/ the President's party

Vacations to Hawai'i, Spain, shopping junkets to Paris.... Never has there been a display of " let them eat cake " by the President and first lady, and during a time of near 10% unemployment to boot.

If Bama had the guts, he would cancel this trip.

But he won't.

I can just hope he stays there.

I want this to be untrue. I want there to be a follow up , which states that Obama is NOT using 40 aircraft and taking that many folks all the way to the other side of the planet.

Is it $200 million or $200,000 a day? If it is $200 million, that alone is grounds for immediate impeachment. Even $200k is absurd. But Brock & Michelle fancy themselves as American royalty, and their blatant extravagences on the taxpayer dime are well documented. Obama's Senate seat has gone to a Republican now. I doubt that Brock even gives a crap, as long as he, the ultimate narcissist, can still wonder around in his delusional world.

$200K a day?

ROFLOL!

You're kidding, right ? That's barely enough to pay for the food bill for this sojourn.

I don't know about ' impeachment', but I think everyone should know about the cost, if indeed these #'s are anywhere near accurate.

I question the $200,000,000/day claim as well, but even if it were true, it would be cheaper than a war, both in the short term and over time. Oddly, neither of you seemed to have any problem with throwing that kind of money away nearly a decade ago.

Where does that even come into the discussion ? Oh, I know, it DOESN'T !

Wasteful, useless stimulus spending ? - at least it's not a war!
Pointless cash for clunkers program ? - at least it's not a war!
Mindless spending of Gov't controlled healthcare ? - at least it's not a war!

Obama will be handing the Republicans the best election gift they could get. As the country continues to wallow in economic misery from the socialist Dems failed policies, this little adventure to India will be used over and over in Republican campaigns as a prime example of the tone-deafness, cluelessness, and disconnected arrogance of Obama.

Even after the drubbing he took on Tuesday, he's still in denial....he's still clingling to what all the Libs here cling to....that everyone who doesn't agree with him on policies is wrong and stupid.

The leftist media is doing the same, burying their heads in the sand, mocking and snarking on the tube and in newspapers about Republican victories, and attempting to show a brave face by highlighting West Coast Dem victories.

They refuse to see what's right in front of them....a total repudiation of Pelosi and Obama. A total rejection of Govt expansion, and their nanny-state policies.

Do they not know that :

11 Governorships went Republican?...Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania...all key states in 2012 election were lost by Dems.

19 state legislatures flipped to Republicans..... re-districting will be sweet

Over 60 House seats won by Republicans

Over 500 legislative seats flipped to Republicans....the local and state Republican dominance will overshadow the national scene for the average American.

Yet yesterday, Pelosi and Obama both denied the real meaning of the election. That's great news for Republicans, and spells more disaster for Dems in 2012.

He's also taking 34 warships including a Aircraft Carrier...their costs are not likely included in the $200,000,000/day fee. This will likely pull ships from their regular patrols in the East China Sea, Persian Gulf, the Horn of Arfica, the Med, and the Indian and Pacific Oceans...luckily those are all peaceful happy places where nothing bad ever happens.

I note for the record that Ohio was a complete sweep for the Republicans. We won the Senate race by over 20 pts. We won the Governor's race. We also swept all four executive offices...Treasurer, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Auditor. Three of those races were political unknowns, one was Senator DeWine (who a year ago was on his way out of politics). The only real fight was the very ugly governor's race.

We also have the largest majority for the Republicans in State history. We unseated a sitting Chief Justice and won three Supreme Court Seats. We defeated numerouse Democratic incumbant Congressional members.

Locally County Council had strong showings by fiscally conservative Democrats and a Republican won one of the seats (its a solid Democratic County). Republicans swept most of the local judges races and ousted sitting judges (which is very unusual at the local level).

We also passed our City's two Charter Amendments...which I guess is not really political...but I was entirely responsible for drafting them, getting them approved by the Charter review committee and City Council, and putting them on the ballot so I can take credit for their victory.

While it has not gotten any national attention Ohio's Tea Party played a decisive role in nearly every campaign. Its a real movement here with several rallys this year (we had three I can think of between June and election day) all drawing folks by the thousands despite the lack of any big name draw...aside from the Mayor, the speakers were not candidates or office holders...I saw business owners, mothers, etc taking the stage and giving nervous, unpolished speeches filled with real passion and love for their country. It was really a site to see.

As Ben Franklin replied, on being asked what the Founders had given the American people.... " A republic, if you can keep it"

The GOP has to make good on their promise to actually listen to the people, and hold true to the Constitution. Time will tell if they pass the test.

http://www.cnn.com/

This $200 million a day number is being pretty well debunked now. The main thing I take away from it is how much people hate on this guy and are willing to believe the worst, even something that sounds as far fetched as this did. A lot of people.
Ultimately, I think it shows that you need to be feared just a bit to be an effective president - he's way too nice.

Dunno if anyone's posted this yet, and haven't read through the entire thread, but the truth is: The entire thing is bullshit. If you pick things up off the internet and imagine they're "true", you could make all kinds of arguments...like toast is from another planet.

The problem is, the CLOSED right-wing media machine picks up stuff like this and rolls it around their own little world and people buy it, repeat it, and sometimes it even makes it to the mainstream media. It's stupid, but it's the world we live in.

Case in point: What's-her-name claiming Sharia Law is in effect in "two American cities"; one of the cities doesn't even EXIST, the other, the mayor came out and angrily refuted it. When asked, what did she say: "I read it once".

Same with this. Some idjit started it, and away it went, to JOYFULLY be picked up by Fox, etc., and repeated and repeated as FACT.

Like I said, it's the world we live in. Unfortunately the sheeples who get their news from no other source buy into it, repeat it, put it on the internet, and it literally cannot be refuted, because they don't get their news from any other source!

Same thing with Bachman, by the way. When asked, her reply: "Those numbers, according to Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, are: $200 million a day, $2 billion total, 34 diverted Navy ships, a 2,000-person presidential entourage, and 870 hotel rooms in India.

Pressed by Cooper to back up her numbers, Bachmann said, "These are the numbers that are coming out in the press." Of course, by "press" she means the right-wing "press", not the real thing.
Quote:

The Press Trust article was picked up by The Drudge Report and other sites online and quickly made its way into conservative talk radio, sparking outrage by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and others."
It's assinine on the face of it, but the right-wing media LOVED it the minute they saw it and doesn't give a flying fuck where it came from or if it's true or not. But their audience is of course convinced, and no facts will change their minds. They know this, and structure their "news" accordingly. It works real good, like with the birth certificate, death panels, and the rest of the things they feed to their listeners/viewers.

It's a new world, and a very sad, scary one in that respect.

Quote:

The Daily Mail is the UK’s answer to the Enquirer… or Weekly News of the World. (Think “Bat Boy lives”) This seems to have originated in the Indian media.

The hard-to-swallow claim originated with a Nov. 2 Press Trust of India article quoting an unnamed “top official” in the government of Maharashtra (one of India’s states). The source was quoted as saying that Obama’s upcoming trip to Mumbai will cost $200 million per day for security and living arrangements, among other things. The story claimed that the president would be accompanied by about 3,000 people, including Secret Service agents, government officials and journalists, and will stay at the Taj Mahal Hotel — the scene of a 2008 terrorist attack.

We find stories based on anonymous sources always deserve special caution, especially when they come from only one news organization. In this case, the anonymous official is not even in the U.S. government, and any information about costs would necessarily have come second-hand at best, an added reason for caution.

Nevertheless, the story was widely repeated without any additional reporting. Soon after the article was released, The Drudge Report — a news aggregation website — linked to the Press Trust of India article, with the headline “REPORT: US to spend $200 million per day on Obama’s Mumbai visit…” Later that day, Rush Limbaugh claimed on his radio show that “Five hundred seven rooms at the Taj Mahal, 40 airplanes, $200 million a day this nation will spend on Obama’s trip to India.” He repeats the “$200 million a day” claim several times throughout the show without specifying its source.

Limbaugh repeats it; it must be news. Works for them.

Stuff like that is what sickens me about Fox and their cohorts. They're not even NEWS, much less "fair and balanced". They don't care about the truth, just about their propaganda.

Rich Iott, Nazi wannabe and personal friend of John Boehner, got his ass handed to him by Marcy Kaptur, who beat him by more than 20 points for the U.S. Congressional seat of Ohio's 9th.

I noted that we picked up five Congressional seats from Democrats. My point was that we swept ALL the Statewide races and Democrats were hammered locally. Some held on in individual races but as a State Ohio just switched from blue to red, just like PA...in fact almost identical to PA.

Better than your dunce cap, my man.

And how does laughing at you neo/teabagging dimwits lapping up total bullshit equate to me getting excited? Oh, I get it, that was your feeble attempt at deflection. I forget, you're barely literate, so I don't always remember to lower my expectations when reading a Wulf post.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Thing is, it's even worse than that, and more disgusting. Look up Bill Moyers's piece "Selling the War" (it should be available as a free podcast on iTunes or elsewhere on the 'net). You'll see a recurring pattern, wherein the U.S. government, under the Bush administration, was leaking reports to foreign press, who would then write about these things as if they were fact, and then some shill (paid by the Pentagon, no less) would call ANOTHER paper and ask, "Did you see this? What do you think?" - and then use that second "source" as "confirmation" of the report.

It's not reporting, it's not confirmation, it's a circle-jerk. This is exactly the kind of "journalism" that was practiced by places like the Weakly [sic] World News: get one person on either side of a Hollywood agent; first person says to the agent, "I heard so-and-so is a chicken-fucker", then looks at the person on the other side and asks, "Have you heard that?" Second person: "Yup, I heard it too!" BOOM - it's confirmed! So-and-so is a chicken-fucker!

Here's a tip: If you're hearing detailed specifics of a Presidential trip abroad, you're being misled. Security people are so paranoid they won't even tell EACH OTHER where they're going to be or what they're going to be doing, until the last possible moment before doing it. It compromises operational security and opens up too many avenues for unfriendlies to take their shots - literally - at the President.

But even if it's not 200 million a day, I still want to see what the ball park figure for this excellent adventure is for Barry and friends.

Seems the only one who doesn't grasp what it was about is YOU, Rappy. The post was about YOU, and how you never gave a fuck what anything cost when Dubya was running up the debt. You only started caring about such things once the black guy got elected.

Yeah, Cav, it's a pretty sad state of affairs.

As for ballpark, we can compare:
Quote:

For example, an 11-day trip by then-President Bill Clinton to Africa in 1998 involved about 1,300 people and cost roughly $3.5 million a day, according to the federal Government Accountability Office. That's about $5.2 million after adjusting for inflation.
That works out to about $38.5 million...not an inconsequential sum, certainly, but all Presidents do it and it's part of "foreign affairs". The $200,000, etc., is still around and believed by Fox's sheeples, and probably none of them will be disuaded. Reasons to hate Obama are given to them on a silver platter, and they love it.

They make me sick...Fox, not their adherents; their audience is just sadly ignorant and gullible.
