While I am not trying to defend BP by any stretch, I think they have been horrific in their behavior....when a "story" has a "quote" that begins "my friend says...." I tend to not take much else that article has to say as anything valid or noteworthy

Yeah, that part is questionable, since it was taken from an anonymous person from some forum who says her friend saw....

But the interview with Martin and Goins... that appears to be a regular, reliable interview. That part is heartbreaking.

This story was the topic of a thread at the time, and I systematically proved it to be bogus by a simple tracing of the details which at least Kane thought was pretty awesome.

This never happened. Here's how I know. The stripper isn't real, and neither is her establishment. There never was such a strip club, and they received and cashed no money. Strip clubs, even underground ones, cannot operate without a trace. They attract attention. Of course they do, they're filled with beautiful naked chicks, they connect with people over the internet, and they tend to take lots and lots of pictures. Even if they don't go online or take pictures, other people mention them.

It turns out that the address was something really mundane, and had never been a strip club, nor had the business received any more. It's always possible that someone put in a claim, but no one paid them, and there were no strippers involved.

It's more likely that someone made the story up out of whole cloth, and posted it online, and gullible people bought it.

And I agree about BP, they suck. Go back to Britain. And get out of the Gulf. And Alaska. Your ooze is killing off species no one has ever seen or heard of in an ocean trench.

I dunno, DT. It looks like Cookies and Cream is a real strip club in Theodore, AL.

I don't know if the stripper was real. The point is, the source of the information is suspect and not up to regular journalistic standards.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I know there were reports early on of a strip club filing for lost earnings due to the spill. I know everybody here hates strippers (or so it seems), but if 90% of their income is based on fishermen and oil workers, and fishing and drilling is suspended for 3 or 6 months, they're definitely going to feel the impact of not having any customers.

Is stripping is a legitimate, legal way to make a living, why are they any less eligible to file a claim for lost earnings?

Oh good point. If this story is real, I would hope that those who make their living directly off the Gulf waters would have higher priority and weight than those who make their living off THOSE people. I mean, in any economy, we are all connected. But I should hope compensation goes to only those with one or two degrees of separation from the Gulf. Those directly connected goes first. Then those with one degree of separation, then two.

I wouldn't mind if a stripper gets compensated, but only AFTER the fishermen do.

Either way, it's heartbreaking for everyone.

True. I do recall being impressed with your knowledge of tittie bars and their interworkings... as well as your detective work.

Yes, sorry, you're correct. This is a different club. The last one was in NoLa, and didn't exist. This one does exist.

ETA: Kane, see, I was right. They're an actual strip club, and they put up pictures of the girls.

But it's the same story. That's suspicious. The story is still suspect.

Someone's trying to get republicans outraged at BP.

Strippers losing business should hold a protest rally. Strip for sanity? Strip for our lives!

It'll be like a PETA protest

Oh come on. No one found that image appealing. It's a stripper thread. It needs more images. Kaneman??

That they have to try is the sad part.
