Lessee, couple this:

Sarah Palin raised $469,000 between Oct. 13 and Nov. 22 bringing her total for the year to over $3 million, Tim Crawford, SarahPAC's treasurer, told TIME exclusively. Crawford attributed the surge of funds to energy surrounding the midterm elections, Palin's endorsements and her TLC reality show “Sarah Palin's Alaska.” Her second book, America By Heart, came out Nov. 23.

The PAC spent $64,000 buying advance copies of her books, “just as we did last year” with her first book, Going Rogue, Crawford said. “They're a great fundraising tool for us.” Palin is in the midst of a two-week cross-country book tour.

Overall the PAC spent $581,000 between Oct. 13 and Nov. 22. A larger percentage than normal was spent on contributions to political candidates, $244,000, as Palin tried to help her 81-endosed candidates over the Nov. 2 finish line. Fifty-five of them won.

All of the $469,000 was raised online or through direct mail. The former Alaska governor has had only two fundraisers for her PAC this year – the last one this past summer -- compared to Mitt Romney's nine. Crawford expects to file his report to the Federal Election Commission this afternoon.

In the busy year since she abruptly announced her resignation as Alaska governor on the eve of Independence Day, Sarah Palin has made lots of money and headlines

Last July, on the eve of Independence Day, Sarah Palin announced her intention to resign as governor of Alaska in the same abrupt manner that had come to epitomize her overnight appearance on the national political scene and subsequent rollout as John McCain's VP pick for the 2008 presidential election. Knee deep in financial troubles, embroiled in ethics complaints and in the middle of a nasty, public he-said-she-said fallout with team McCain, the Thrilla from Wasilla traded in a modestly paid government spot for the chance to "fight for what's right" without any fancy title. One year later, Palin finds herself $12 million richer, the "Mama Grizzly" of America's Tea Party movement, a buzzed-about 2012 presidential hopeful and front and center in the nation's political stage.

My gawd, a Republican who dares to speak out!
Quote:

Joe Scarborough, former conservative congressman from Florida, says its time for members of his party to get off the sidelines and express their true feelings about Sarah Palin.

"Republicans have a problem. The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected," Scarborough writes in a column for Politico out Tuesday. "And yet the same leaders who fret that Sarah Palin could devastate their party in 2012 are too scared to say in public what they all complain about in private."

Scarborough also took aim at the former Alaska governor for even considering a White House bid.

"What man or mouse with a fully functioning human brain and a résumé as thin as Palin's would flirt with a presidential run? It makes the political biography of Barack Obama look more like Winston Churchill's," writes Scarborough, later adding that Palin is pursuing a "dopey dream."

The comments come several days after Palin herself stoked speculation she is considering a run for president, with the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee saying in several media interviews that she is conferring with friends and families about the prospect and thinks she could beat President Obama.

But Scarborough writes that prospect is completely unfounded and faults Palin for comparing her resume, which now includes starring in a TLC reality show, to that of Ronald Reagan, the onetime Hollywood actor. Scarborough also isn't pleased Palin painted President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara in a recent interview as out-of-touch "blue bloods."

"Perhaps her anger was understandable," a sarcastic Scarborough says. "After all, these disconnected "blue bloods" had nothing in their backgrounds that could ever make them understand "real America" like a former governor from Alaska who quit in the middle of her first term and then got rich.

"I suppose Palin's harsh dismissal of this great man is more understandable after one reads her biography and realizes that, like Bush, she accomplished a great deal in her early 20s. Who wouldn't agree that finishing third in the Miss Alaska beauty contest is every bit as treacherous as risking your life in military combat?" continued Scarborough, in reference to the elder Bush's tenure as combat pilot in World War II.

Palin has yet to respond to the comments.

This notion has started circulating among the GOP power broker group.

Rove has started mentioning the fact that she is unelectable. These guys arent stupid, they see what we do. Sarah is worshipped by a third of the country and loathed by a half.

Her enemies are quickly becoming the GOP elite, not the dems. I could easily see her completely fracturing the conservative electorate

Boy, every word you said, Blue!

Except that Rove nailed her a while ago, and is now backpeddaling as fast as he can...well, somewhat anyway.

Of course, dear little Sarah didn't take his remarks laying down, either (does she ever take ANY remarks laying down? Or even sitting up? Or anything but "standing and screaming"??):
Quote:

Former Governor Sarah Palin continued escalating her feud with Karl Rove on Sunday, offering a tongue-in-cheek response to the latest criticism from the former Bush strategist, that her reality-show persona didn't provide the gravitas required for a presidential run.

"You know, I agree with that," Palin said, during an interview with "Fox News Sunday," "that those standards have to be high for someone who would ever want to run for president like, um, wasn't Ronald Reagan an actor? Wasn't he in Bedtimes for Bonzo, bozo or something? Ronald Reagan was an actor. Now look-it. I'm not in a reality show. I have eight episodes documenting Alaska's resources, what it is that we can contribute to the rest of U.S. to economically and physically secure our union, and my family comes along for the ride because I am family, family is us, and my family comes along on the ride to document these eight episodes for The Learning Channel. ... So Karl is wrong right there in calling it a reality show."

Earlier in the week, Rove, in an interview with the London Telegraph, offered another in a noteworthy line of thinly veiled, or completely unveiled, swipes at Palin, this time questioning the utility of hosting a reality television series.

"There are high standards that the American people have for it [the presidency]," Rove said, "and they require a certain level of gravitas, and they want to look at the candidate and say 'that candidate is doing things that gives me confidence that they are up to the most demanding job in the world'."

The point, in essence, was that viewers wouldn't or couldn't see Palin as a presidential candidate if her time was being spent prioritizing television contracts and book tours. And on Sunday, Fox News host Chris Wallace picked up the argument, making a prediction to Palin that she wouldn't give up the glamour and money to make a White House run.

"You know, the country is worth it though to make those sacrifices," Palin replied, in a statement that really lent itself to the impression that she would run. "When we talk about making money today, having a lot of fun today, having all this freedom, if the country needed me, and I'm not saying that the country does and that the country would necessarily want to choose me over anyone else. But I would be willing to make he sacrifices if need be for America."

al-election_n_776584.html

Oh, gosh, all those big, huge, horrid sacrifices of being President of the United States. And she'd be willing to make them, just for us! Gawd, what a woman! (couldn't resist)

And ooooo, isn't going after Reagan a major Republican no-no?? Not to mention the fact that he did, at least, manage to FINISH two whole terms as Governor befor he ran...oh, and wasn't he NOMINATED, not thrown into the spotlight at the last minute out of nowhere? Lessee, didn't he also fail to get the nomination of his once before, just barely? As in, like, didn't he have a bit of political BACKGROUND first? I dunno, my memory might be fuzzy, it's not like I was around in 1966 (when he was Governor) or '81-'89, when he was Prez.

...but then, what do I know?

You know what I absolutely adore? The articles on how, when Rove said she was missing sufficient "gravitas", Google was INUNDATED with people looking up the word! Omigawsh, we are SUCH a smart society... ...maybe we WOULD elect her; we might deserve her.

At any rate, I'm with KPO, I want her to run so bad I can TASTE it! What fun...maybe she'd do a reality show, "What It's Like To Run For Prez"...would probably pay pretty well, too...

Hello,

Strangely, I consider this an extremely hopeful sign. With a handful of keystrokes, a percentage of the population became instantly less ignorant.

This bodes well, not ill, for our future. Not only were people able to edify themselves... they were also interested in trying.

It is when folks stop looking for answers, stop looking to expand their minds that then, we should start to worry.

Sarah might not be Presidential material, but she's good people. Far better than most you'll find in D.C.

Yeah, looked at that way, Anthony, I see your point. That people will SEARCH, and thereby learn something they otherwise wouldn't, IS a good sign.

Point granted. Thanx.

I guess it just amused/surprised/saddened me to see how pathetic the vocabulary is for so many people. Our educational system obviously isn't what it once was, and every time I run up against that fact, it strikes me anew.

Hello,

I once confused inept and adept, to embarrassing result.

I think vocabulary has shifted as opposed to shrunk. There are many new words in use that I can only guess the meaning of. It's just that many people have what I call a 'contemporary' vocabulary as opposed to a 'classic' vocabulary.

It is a shame to see many classic words fall into disuse, if only because words like 'gravitas' and 'antithetical' are so very interesting.

Admittedly, vocabulary evolves; I have no problem with that. But to see good words disappear and a lot of the new words be (in my opinion) just trash, that does bother me.

It's no doubt a pet peeve; I hate math but adore language, and the English language is so complex and has so many words for everything, with subtle differences in meaning, that I especially love it. So I hate to see it "going down the drain", which is how I view it.

Hello,

I am just reminded that I read a piece from the turn of the century on this topic. It was either an article or a treatise. It was about the shameful decline of language.

I'll have to see if I can find it. It might serve to put things in a new perspective. If anyone knows of such a piece, please post it. I seem to recall it gave me a smirk.

Sarah's pretty hot. She might win an election. Oh, and don't pretend that isn't how Obama got elected.

I recall a friend of mine during the election commenting this: When I watch a speech, I'm mesmerized by Obama, everything he says is magic, I think he's just an amazing progressive who is going to solve all of our problems. But then, sometimes I miss the speech, and I go and read the transcript online, and I think "Who is this neocon thug?"

Charisma is tricky, it's not just looks alone, but when people have it, they can say the right thing, the wrong thing, or nothing at all, and get cheering crowds and adoring fans.

I propose a system where only the written word of the actual candidates be allowed on the subject, and for those written words to be legally binding, such as "If elected, I will close Guantanamo" should be either a) be stricken from the document before published if it is unconstitutional, otherwise b) become law upon obtaining the oath of office.

Short of that, say hello to either president Sarah or president Mitt

Yeah, Anthony, I have no doubt you're right. It probably pops up with every new generation and has forever. Like I said, probably just a pet peeve of mine, given my love of language.

Sarah hasn't got a dog's chance in hell, in my opinion (thank gawd), but I'd LOVE to see her run! Aside from being entertaining as hell, it would guarantee a Dem win (which I would prefer, right now, given the past eight years and how the Repubs are behaving these days!). You're entitled to your opinion, of course, as well as why you think Obama won.

As to the charisma thing; of course, I'm well aware of that. If I weren't, I'd be TOTALLY flummogated as to why Reagan won, both as Gov AND as Prez! Not to mention, Clinton. And I'm well aware Palin appeals (especially to men) because they think she's "hot" (which escapes me).

I do, however, adore your concept that campaign promises should be legally binding...wouldn't I love THAT? But it'll never happena and we both know it.

I'll save your remarks about Sarah and Mitt...I hope you're not too wedded to them...

DT, that is actually a very good point about charisma.

I remember reading a story about one of the early televised presidential debates, between JFK and Nixon.

The surveys taken afterward showed a strange discrepancy-those who viewed the debate on tv overwhelmingly thought that Kennedy had won, while those who listened on radio believed that Nixon had won.

The difference was attributed to the charisma of Kennedy, who was obviuosly far more loved than Nixon, even before the different paths their presidencies went down.
