A witness used his cell phone to capture the shooting on video, which shows four officers surrounding the suspect in his wheelchair. In the video, one of the officers shoots the suspect using a beanbag gun, and the suspect appears to throw the knife aside. A split second later the suspect is shot in the groin with a handgun.

Not that I want to defend the cops, but the guy was moving his legs in the video. The article says he is ambulatory, so not sure why he was using a wheelchair.

I think they shouldn't have shot someone who is obviously mentally ill. But this case doesn't seem as egregious as others.

Ambulatory is a matter of degree, heck, I *can* walk, if I am willing and able to stand off the crippling pain that comes with - most of the time my ass is planted in a wheelchair too.

Stupid cops, I rather doubt the guy was gonna get up and run off, he wasn't *going* anywhere, so that's more a matter of ego issues and a lack of patience than anything else - shoulda just kept an eye on him and called mental health personnel.
